Disney and Pixar are back at it again with their newest movie, Coco! For this list, were looking at the most interesting bits of information we have about the latest collaboration between Disney and Pixar. Did you know Disney tried to trademark Da de los Muertos? Did know that its a love letter to Mexico? The team behind the film decided to go straight to the source to do their research during the writing process and traveled to Mexico several times in order to get everything just right

Watched this movie tonight and I have to say, it was sooooo good! Great character development, the story had depth, the animation was superb, the music amazing, and what a way to showcase another culture. I would strongly recommend watching this movie, specially with your family. you'll see why. One of the most unique and fantastically enchanting movies Disney Pixar has made. It had so many great moments. laughter, wonder, tears. no seriously, I looked around and could not see a dry eye. and not because it was sad, but rather because it was so touching. Bravo Disney! I LOVED IT

You know I haven't had a lot of experiences in the movie theater, some good some bad and this movie gave me a quite interesting one. Because up until Coco I couldn't really say I was in a room full of Mexicans crying (myself included )/over in animated movie I'm not exaggerating I heard everybody freaking crying in this movie and it was packed. Like my family got there 30 minutes early and we still couldn't get seats together because the movie theater was just so full.

This a Mexican culture celebration, not latino. Mexican people in little Mexican town, Mexican Dia de Muertos is an Aztec tradition, Alebrijes, Mariachi, flor de cempasuchitl, Frida Khalo, Cantinflas, Pedro Infante. Latinos dont jump in the wagon, its disrespectful, give credit when credit is due. If Pixar made a movie about Turkey, would you say it's Asian culture as if Turkey would be the same as Japan?

The Book of Life is immediately what I thought of when I saw the first trailer for Coco. I was excited that we were going to visit the Land of the Remembered again. The Sanchez family isn't the only family to have departed loved ones after all, so getting to see Miguel discover a suppressed part of his family history will be may marvilioso.

I already saw the movie in Mexico (Mexico was the first country in the world to show the movie) and many people complain about the Frozen short film (by the way that Frozen film last more that 24 minutes) and all movie theaters In Mexico deteled the Frozem film because it was very boring.
reply

Okay, yes, the movie is based on the Dia de muertos which is the 2nd of November but the movie is really about family in Mexican culture and the importance that is has. But yes, the movie is a really nice love letter to Mexico.
reply

I swear why are people saying that the book of life is an exact rip off from the book of the book of life CAUSE THE BOOK OF LIFE HAS A LOVE TRIANGLE AND COCO IS ABOUT FAMILY AND AT LEAST THEY DIDN'T STEREOTYPE MEXICANS!
reply

What is fat Mexico did not take kindly to the 22 minutes Frozen short that played before the movie it got to the point where there was a petition that for theaters in Mexico to stop playing that short and it actually worked.

A big difference between Book of the Life and Coco, is that Book of the life mixes The Spanish culture and the Mexican culture, I mean is not at ALL focused in the Mexican Holiday, Coco focuses 100% in the holiday.

I CANT wait to see Coco, I really want to see how Disney and Pixar put all of Mexico's culture and traditions into this film and from watching all the recent trailers and clips, I SO CAN'T WAIT!
reply

I just like to point out that the only similarities between Cocoa and The Book of Life is their usage of Dia de los Muertos and both of their main characters are
musicians.

As soon as I heard about the movie and saw the trailer I got triggered because Book of Life was freaking awesome and Disney os going to ruin its greatness

Dia de lis muertos takes place at the end of October? Someone should inform mexico they've been celebrating dia de los muertos in November. XD
reply

I'd add the actual Mexian celebrities who either guest-star, cameo or are referenced in the movie - El Santo, Frida Kahlo, Pedro Infante.
reply

I just saw Coco very amazing! Also very different from the book of life. But one similar is that both main characters want to be misictions
reply

The only negative thing about this is the 20 minutes of cash-grab poppycock we have to go through first. But let's not talk about it.
reply

As a Latina I appreciate so much that they had an all Latino cast for this movie, well made and thought out I loved it!

MsMojo:
Day of the Death is not celebrated in the last days of October, it's celebrated in the 2nd of November

reply

This isn't the only Disney movie heavily focused of culture, ever heard of a little picture called MOANA?
reply

Yeah it may not be the first day of the dead movie but COCO IS WAY MORE BETTER THAN THE BOOK OF LIFE!
