Everyone really hates Serena even though Blair is manipulative in a lot of times too. They can both be horrible. Blair treats her minions badly and always suspects that she is being played with causing her to resort to doing bad things. She even had trouble choosing between two guys and dated Humphrey while still being in love with Chuck. Same goes for Louis. And then theres Serena who might be a mess but she at least does everything for her family and is willing to throw everything for Blair. And when she and Dan kissed, Serena made the mature decision to take a break with Nate to reflect on herself. She only did what she did to Lola because she didnt expect her to be that big. Even though she said Lola can pass her, she didnt really prepare herself to what can happen when Lola becomes the it girl. In short, Blair isnt a saint and isnt someone thats perfect like Serena. Theyre both a bad person when they can.

Jenny's boobs were such a major part of her character in the books, I don't even know how they thought up her role without them (and yes, I actually mean that. Her boobs were just as massive as the role they played in developing her story in the books. She even got her own literary spin-off. The It Girl book series. And the way the show portrayed Vanessa was really a shame. She was an adventurous, fearless, wild-hearted punk girl who sported a pale complexion, bald head, and her signature doc martens. I never got past episode 2 of this show. I read all the books when I was young. I was surprised and excited when I found out it had been made into a popular show. But the tv series is basically a completely different story line that used the books as only a starting point.

I think Ed Westwick brought so much to the character of Chuck they couldnt help but make Chuck a forefront character. His and Blaires plot lines carried the show. Ed and Leighton have incredible chemistry and the writers worked around that.
In regards to Rufus I think the writers were inspired by a Sandy Cohen type dad. (Same creators from the OC after all) i think they saw how well it worked there and replicated the same archetype dad with him. Approachable, loving, down to earth, full of good advice. Lily also reminds me or Kirsten now that i think about it so i think there was a lot of cross over ideas there.

Love this show (on season 4 and I'm hooked) but Serena went from my favourite to hated. She was so mean towards blair (yes I know, blair can be mean too) but her character development keeps going downhill. She keeps going from guy to guy, hurting people and getting away with it and I hate how everybody does everything/everyone for her and I don't see why. It's chair that is making me want more

Chuck had an amazing story arc in gossip girl but all the story arcs of the major characters were rushed to a climax in season 6. Why did s6 only have 10 episodes? They had so much content to end the gg universe in a fulfilling way, i. e. showing a Blair labour scene with Chuck next to her holding her hands. That would have literally melted my heart

Chuck and Blair werent even romantically involved until the the 12th book which came out two years after GG aired and Chuck had a major personality change (after going to a military school) I think its clear that Cecily von Ziegesar took inspiration from the show.

OMG I'm so glad they changed it, the tv show is far much better like can anyone imagine Gossip Girl without Chair because I know I ceraintly can't. They were the reason I continued watching GG of course otherwise than the fact that the show is great.

Sounds like the only thing in the books that's more interesting is Vanessa being a lot more alternative. I would have loved to see a character shave her hair off or gain weight on gossip girl and still end up friends with the pretty rich kids.

People hate Vanessa for No reason she deserved more air time and a way better story line even while being the hero it was misconstrued as her being an enemy. Which literally made no sense as though she adds humanity to every character

Let's admit it, Blair and Chuck is basically the reason why a lot of us finished the whole series. If the followed the book about Chuck being a minor character, I would have stopped watching in Season 2. I'm just so glad for Chuck and Blair.

Bro Chucks dad is so so rude to Chuck. I was glad when Bart died but was PISSED when he came back. but then happy again when Bart finally dies but I couldnt bask in the feeling cause the show wrapped up after that

In the book they described Vanessa as a pale, bald girl whose wardrobe was filled with black shirts, but when i started watching the show I was so confused. Same with Eric, he was supposed to be older than Blair.

Serena and Vanessa makes my blood boil Blair and Jenny are the most sympathetic ones so I like how Jenny wants to be friends with Blair maybe Jenny would have been a better friend to Blair than Serena

I read the books but had to stop watching the show after halfway into the 1st season. I couldn't take the differences & extra drama. Plus the Blair in the books would NEVER touch Chuck LOL

Lily and rufus relationship and chuck being a main character seems like an improvement but i also didn't read the book and dont plan to. Chuck and blair carries the whole show.

I hate how Serena made everything about her like anything happened she would make it about her or would purposely try to ruin things because she didnt like them

Also in the books Jenny went to a boarding school in a spin-off series called It girl. In the show however Jenny moves to England instead.

Tbh the books sound horrible. Lets be honest the whole show was carried by Chuck and Blairs relationship. The tv show

The constant comparisons between Serena and Blair in every comment section is insane. No wonder they never became friends in real life

Looks like the books deal with a lot more important issues than the show, I'm thinking of listening to the audio books.

Chuck is not a major character in the book? The limo scene doesn't exist? I think I will skip reading the books

There is another difference youre missing. The books never revealed who Gossip Girl was, while the show does.
