In 20 years, I guess Bert died in poverty not making enough to survive from all the part-time jobs. Or, he passed on because of illness from chimney soot or excessive chalk dust jumping into pictures. Hence, his character did not survive to the movie.
Perhaps Uncle Bert after having a lovely time with Bert decided to pack it in after his manic depression came back and no one visited him any longer.
Mary, without a single grey hair, is as immaculate and as Dorian Gray-like as ever. Perhaps, she found a new friend Jack to replace Bert. It makes one wonder how many male friends this nanny has made over the decades between assignments.
As a sequel and with the children grown up on, it is going to be very interesting to see if there will be animation and/or memorable musical jingles in the Depression era.
The early trailer looks spooky like Dementors are ready to swoop down from the sullen sky to suck the happiness from London. And with the backdrop of the Depression, the banks and companies have gone bankrupt. Soup kitchens, unemployment, it should make for an interesting film.

Julie Andrews was chosen by Walt Disney himself and was practically perfect in every way: a totally new actress who had never made a film and made Poppins her signature performance. She was young, fresh, beautiful, gracious, authoritative, charming and had a 4-octave crystal clear voice. Andrews won the Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy and Bafta for that iconic performance. The songs are amazing: each one is supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. Emily Blunt has huge shoes to fill in, at the age of 36 it is quite a challenge.

While it is good to know Dick Van Dyke is returning, I wouldn't hope too much for cameos from other original cast members, because David Tomlinson, Hermione Baddeley, Reta Shaw, Matthew Garber, Ed Wynn, and Reginald Owen have all passed away, while Glynis Johns and Karen Dotrice have retired. We'll have to wait and see in a few months.

I'm actually really scared to watch this, i know its not a remake but a sequel but still nothing can top the old Mary Poppins. Its my dear childhood and Julie Andrews & Dick Van Dyke are the most awesome actors Still, Emily Blunt ist quite tallented, Though she'd never top Julie. Soeey Emily

I hope Lin gets a song, but I hope to the gods he doesn't try a English accent. Or if he does it hope he practiced it so it sounds slightly believable.
No one can replace Julie Andrews or Dick Van Dyke but Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda can give a new perspective to the roll

first things first Emily Blunt will NEVER BE as good as Julie Andrews. secondly they should have asked Anne Hathaway. She worked closely with Julie back when The Princess Diaries was being filmed so I think she would have made a better choice.

We do not want to see mary poppin, s return.
Its literally the definition of remaking something you can never ever hope to come close to matching. What is the point.
So so sad it really is.
It will be a disaster

I'll admit, I normally disagree with MsMojo and imagine myself editing the videos, but I could not agree more on this list! I so want all of this to happen and have a feeling that Emily Blunt will do a lovely job!

1: 38 Oh, of course! Mr. Enter said it's exceptionally sad when one of the biggest animation companies in the world (Walt Disney) feels like it's trying to bury animation. December 18, 2018, 5: 12pm

Great. P. L. Travers will be revolving in her tomb. The best Mary Poppins for anyone whos actually read and loved the books is Rachel Griffiths, whom you can actually see in Saving Mr Banks.

I'd love to see them incorporate characters from the musical ex. Mrs. Corry and Mrs. Andrews also seeing as they are bringing back the bankers maybe Northbrook and Vonhussler

fans have been waiting a long time for this follow up. euhm, no? The 1964 Mary Poppins was practically perfect in every way. Do you need to repaint the Mona Lisa? no

Emily Blunt, who I like, doesnt seem to smile a lot like Julie Andrews. I would miss that part of her character. But weve only seem clips, so well see.

The latest rumor is Mary Poppins was a graduate of Hogwarts. The person wasn't sure why Mary Poppins was allowed to do magic in front of muggles.

Emily Blunt was a fabulous Mary Poppins. I was hesitant at first but after seeing it I think it's a beautiful way for the franchise to end.

Never judge things by their appearance, even carpet bags. The Cover is Not The Book. I love that the director continues promoting this value!

I will it at the movies but I will not be buying it. Julie Andrew being in it would be the only reason I would change my mind.

Please, include the original Sherman Brothers songs. Its not Mary Poppins without their Oscar-winning musical magic.

I'm disappointed that Julie Andrews won't make a cameo in the new film. even given her reason for not appearing.
