Also fans don't seem to understand that some of these stories are not about the princesses at all. Ariel and Aroura are just pawns in a war. Jasmine is the catalyst for Aladdin being seen as worthy its not about her. When you give character backstories they should tie into the overall plot in the film when they dont it is just bad storytelling and alot of useless information. Example Knowing Belles mom died from the plague what did it add to the story? Does it help her love the Beast or herself more? Does it teach her something that opens her heart to the Beast no it just gave us a giant magic book size plot hole and waisted all of our time. The story is about her looking past the Beast appearance and learning to love him while he learns to be himself again. P. S. changing his age makes it harder to sympathize with the Beast again defeating the purpose. In the original he was dumb kid and the punishment was severe so you root for Belle to see past his mistakes and his temper. In the live action you just feel like he got what he deserved and since the live action removes all his effort and remorse it feels like he never earns her effection. But sure lets ruin a story with logic and completely miss the whole point of the story in the process. Belle being an inventor adds nothing to the story. I feel like people refuse to just enjoy good stories they need reasons to hate it and as a result I got to watch them butcher my favorite stories of all time. The worst part is nobody seems to notice how all those changes suck all the life out of the fairytale.

What about a list of things from the animated versions that were changed in the live action that didn't do so well?
Like the way they made Gaston some evil man with PTSD that was willing to kill Maurice. In the animated version he was beautiful, arrogant and full of himself. But he was going to put him in an asylum not kill him. They turned my Gaston into a monster and honestly, he wasn't that bad. Unlike the Beast who held Belle prisoner and treated her like crap.
Oh but you did forget one good thing about the Beast that I liked, they made him smart. He was well read, educated and in the real life version I could see him genuinely change because of the backstory. The animated version didn't show any of that.
Maybe y'all can do a part two including the new live action movies that have been released since this one.

You really shouldve included the Peddler/merchant from the Aladdin remake:
In the original film, the Peddler appears at the beginning of the film to allegedly narrate the story and explain the origins of the lamp that he tries to sell to the audience; however, by the end of the movie, hes never seen again, making his entire appearance pointless, and all the alternate endings were supposed to reveal that the Peddler was actually the Genie this whole time (since theyre both voiced by the late Robin Williams. In the remake, the merchant (the remake version of the Peddler) narrates the story to his wife and children, and while the family arent seen again for the rest of the remake either, the ending DOES at least confirm that the Genie IS indeed the merchant (theyre both played by Will Smith after all.

I like the live action remakes that go with a whole new story because the ones that try to stick with the story fail miserably like Aladdin the whole point is that he is the diamond in the rough and can be a great sultan without being a royal. Making Jasmin sultan defeats the purpose. Beauty and the Beast takes all the scenes of them interacting and Beast trying to do better and instead Belle has to lower herself to his standards. And I came to this video late but Mulan was somehow even worse than Beauty and the Beast. But I dont hate Maleficent it has its own story separate from the original so it couldn't butcher it.

A lot of people say that they only cast poc for the diversity checkbox and while that MIGHT be true, it also MIGHT be true that theyre trying to accurately cast non-white actors for non-white characters as well as trying to show that the world is diverse. Simple representation I think is a pretty huge step, since the world isnt just white and children need to see that. I definitely hope that one day the Disney remakes will have more minority main characters but Im glad were seeing a shift.

I prefer the original animated Cinderella because she could have ended up being as mean as her family under those conditions not to mention the fact that she was the one who told her friends to get the dog to scare w the cat so that her mice Friends can get the key under the door to her! Other words she actually saved herself.
I will say one thing the live action version has over the animated version is that a gives the prince a lot more screen time to actually connect with him

This is what I think about Disney Classic Live Action Movies
101 Dalmatians is more fun and the actress as Cruella is beyond perfect for that role
Maleficent got more magical
The Jungle Book got more beat
Aladdin took my breath away
Beauty and the Beast opened my eyes
The Lion King had me wow
Cinderella is full of hope and love
Dumbo made me believe in magic
Lady and The Tramp on Disney+ made me fall in love
Alice In Wonderland became awesome!

Dumb mojo makes a video with a title that sounds to be the complete opposite of reality.
Ok, let's be fair an give it a shot.
More diverse casts. ahh. The casts were more diverse in the animation in terms of personality, which is the most important thing for characters and for real humans alike.
Btw, has anyone observed how insanely good and full of emotion are the voice actors in the animated movies and how bland the live action performances were?

And so 2 people who danced together one time at a ball entered into an ill-advised long term relationship, and they lived happily ever after for 7 months. Then they seperated with the goal of fixing themselves and getting back together, they got in a huge fight when his mom got sick and now they don't even follow each other on twitter. The end. -The Grimm Job S. 12 ep. 10 of Family Guy.

The Belle's mother thing is terrible. It grinds the movie to a dead stop pacing wise, doesn't impact the plot at all, and worse, there was no reason for Maurice not to tell Belle what happened to her mother. She died of an incredibly infectious disease, he was being a good and responsible father by keeping the newborn away from her mother. Storytelling wise, this is crap.

I wish the beast and gaston were childhood friends (a little bit frenemies) in the 2017 version to add that little more in depth story between them in their final confrontation. Imagine gaston being so shocked after finding out the true identity of the beast and who he really was.
reply

Not sure I agree with #1 at least with respect for Belle. She was independent minded and fierce in the animated film as well. In no way was she a passive participant who merely let the man dictate her life or conduct all the work to reach happily ever after
reply

Wow. I feel like this vid was paid and backed by Disney. I havent seen one single live action remake with a bit of heart and soul. Terrible singing, bad casting, pointless anyway to do these. Also. The enchantment in B and B was added fkr the Broadway show.
reply

I like how the live action versions go into more details and you learn more about the characters and their back stories. The romantic couples actually get to know each other better, as it should be, not fall and love and marry within a few days or weeks.
reply

I love the remakes and I LOVED the Beauty and the Beast remake but many people hate it and I dont understand. I loved Emma Watson as Belle, I feel she portrayed Belle amazingly. I love the Beauty and the Beast, then Maleficent, Mowgli and Cinderella
reply

I get that people wanted answers for Belle's mom but it added nothing to the story it was waist of time and it told us what we already knew she dead! Knowing how she died added nothing to the story 20mins of usless information.
reply

Omg. How could they forget that in the Live Action Cinderella, The King passed away. This allowed Kitt to become King thereby making Cinderella Queen, rather than just a Princess. Take that Step Mother!
reply

If you think about it, its just logical that Jasmin gets to be Sultan. She is right, why would Aladin become sultan when she has been prepared for it all live? Seriously? Just because hes the man?
reply

Maleficient was really a good surprise. A total rewriting of the anime version, Angelina Jolie was the perfect cast, she would have never agreed to be another basic antagonist.
reply

The live action dress for Cinderella was goals! They could have made Cinderella more assertive with her stepmother and stepsisters if they wanted to really update it.
reply

Giving an explanation for why the whole castle got cursed for the Prince's actions really should have made the list. Even people who prefer the original can't explain that.
reply

The Jungle Book was the best of the remakes.
As for the first point, that only is acceptable for original characters instead of recycling and swapping already existing.

reply

I'm glad other's like and appreciate it but I wish that everything that's considered yesterday's classics would be left alone so they can be just what they are a classic
reply

I've only seen one of the live action Jungle book remakes and the Aladdin remake, and they're both pretty good, but I'm telling you they can't beat the originals.
reply

In a lot of these movies they made it truer to the original story.
Cinderella met the prince before the ball originally
There's others's but I forget them.

reply

I don't think more diverse cast is a good change, it's totally strange to have so much black and brown people in stories inspired by medieval Europe.
reply

I dont really count maleficent as remake of sleeping beauty I see it more of a different movie all on its on ( like if you agree)
reply

But, making Cinderella familiar to Prince Charming doesn't help the actual story of finding her only with her shoe. That was messed.
reply

Maleficent is still the best Disney live action rebbot. Cinderella was ok, but Ever after with Drew Barrymore is better imo.
