When I first watched this film, I was pretty intrigued by the story and the characters, but I didn't really take everything they were doing or saying that seriously, so the ending with Sebastian didn't really affect me as I think it was intended to. I didn't really sympathize with any of the characters either because I couldn't get past the deplorable things they'd done earlier in the film. I'd like to watch it again and see if my perspective has changed or not.

I really dont think Kathryn wanted to play Sebastian from the beginning, I think what she did at the end, when she manipulated him, it was to hurt him because she was herself hurt when he chose Annette over her. As she saw him slipping away from her she became scared and bit back. I think we can clearly see in different occasions the human side of Kathryn, even though she tries to suppress it as much as possible.

One might have hoped that Sebastian's diary, which he gave to Annette in an attempt to be honest at last, would also have revealed what a complete arsehole he is - but then we have the double-standards applied to women and to men to contend with. He might have captured Annette's heart but the world is definitely a better place without the likes of Sebastian in it.

Two reasons why I love this movie. Sarah: she is the best part of the movie and two: Reese and Ryan I loved them together and I love watching them in this movie, their love is real since they were in love with each other during the filming of the movie and Reese's cute devil faces that she makes, how can you not love her

I've rewatched this movie recently and this movie has not aged well in my opinion. Sebastian is a good looking guy but his seduction skills are immature and juvenile. I'm not even talking about his personality yet, but it seems to tie in. He's just not a likable main character and the supporting cast doesn't make up for it.

First saw this with my sister when I was 5 when she got it for VHS in 01. Pretty wild to think about the perfect 90s soundtrack that went with it was just regular music for the time.
Seriously wish I could find someone from my generation thats into these movies in the same way, not having any luck though lol

I am the biggest SMG fan, so I watched this when I was like 14. If anyone has not read Le Liaison Dangereuse or watched Dangerous Liaisons with GLEN CLOSE (OMG. I will buy it for you because you aremissingout! SMG has an awesome interview on The Tonight Show explaining the movie and the origins.

In Dangerous Liaisons, the Witherspoon character (michelle Pfeiffer) died from heartbreak after Valmont dumped her. Valmont, in Dangerous Liaisons, suicided over heartbreak. Cruel Intentions should've been more faithful to the story. instead, they changed it to a silly American ending.

Im glad that they saved the best for the last. Cruel Intentionss ending is one of the iconic endings in a Hollywood movie. Kathryns humiliation with the bittersweet symphony playing in the background gave me goosebumps.
reply

I dont think the ending is satisfactory at all. I think theres something fundamentally wrong in Katheryns head and Sebastian was as wrong as her. But thats okay because he got a redemption arc and she didnt?

The first time I watched this movie I was 17 years old; ever since I have been watching again and again more than I could not imagine. What a movie and what a name that translates with the content.

Sarah Michelle needed the career that Reese ended up having, she's a phenomenal actress. So underrated. Oh and that scene with Joshua Jackson in his briefs. ooof lol.

I only watched this movie cause I heard bittersweet symphony was in it, I knew nothing else about the movie. so u can all imagine me when I first saw this film

I wish Sebastian stayed bad like Kathryn, they're the best thing in the movie. That's not a great movie, but it has a very cool vibe and visuals in general
reply

Honestly? This movie is my go to for examples of toxic boy/girlfriends getting what they deserve. Kathrine gets exposed and Sabastian dies
