Another Top 10 Pop Songs You Didn\'t Know Had A Dark Meaning Just like the 1st list, not all pop songs are dark but just simply understood. Poker Face, MMMBop, Do You Hear What I Hear, & Born In The U. S. A. are also examples of misunderstood pop songs. Semi-Charmed Life only proves that 3rd Eye Blind wasnt careful enough with the words when it was released, but I did like the song a little bit. All the songs on both lists I said were misunderstood shouldve been replaced with songs like Lemon Incest. If both lists were ever combined, please Ms. Mojo, put Brown Sugar as #1 & Paper Planes as #2.\r\n

Hopefully when this top 10 list & the 1st top 10 list are combined into a top 20 list, please rank Brown Sugar all the way to #1 & rank all the songs I said were misunderstood at the bottom of the top 20, Ms. Mojo. Also, replace some of these songs originally ranked on both lists with others like Lemon Incest from Top 10 Songs That Are Actually Creepy. 1 more thing, include at least 4 or 5 honorable mentions with songs like Red Light Special by TLC.

Wow. completely missed the point of The Rolling Stones. many of their greatest pop hits focused on controversial subjects to start conversations. Paint It Black: slavery and Jim Crow Laws, Sister Morphine: opioid addiction, Brown Sugar: rape of slaves, Heartbreaker: abandonment of youth by society, etc. . completely missed the whole point of art in general. to raise questions and criticize society. good job on missing the mark on that one.

yeah, i remember when 'born in the USA'came out, i rushed to buy the album, then when i really listened to the lyrics found out it was anti-american, none of us kids would play the song, especially from an anti-american communist. then 'i'm on fire' could be considered a pedophile song, doesn't matter what the video shows, the lyrics are creepy. and you think an old guy is talking to a little girl.

Yeah Brown Sugar has definitely got to be the worst! Fetishizing the RAPE of black people is HANDS DOWN the worst song on this list! Wow! I'm glad I never listen to that song. Maybe that's why I hear so many ignorant white guys boldly tell me. I've never been with a black girl before asking to see me sometime. No sir you may not test the waters. I am not the challenge for you! GROSS!

You have to view brown suger by the rolling stones through what they represented in the 70ies. Shock Rock that played with the comfortzone of the christian white upper class. But yes, it is totaly uncomfortable and ment to be that way. Its not the song that shouldent have been written its the rape and racisem that should never had happen and the shutting up about it all.

I have a friend that works in a school and he won't listen to the song Pumped up Kicks by the Foster People. I always listened to the song but I never really paid attention to the lyrics. He explained to me one day what the lyrics meant and I was like wow no wonder you don't like listening to that song!

It always gets me how they bleep out the important parts. so it makes it sound fun. If they could just let the song play uncensored, kids would probably learn lessons. but bleeped out it misses the point. If people can't even hear a song without being effected. maybe music isn't for you.

I always hated that saying that said, If you said you didnt like mmmbop youre lying. Nope! Hated it then, hate it now. And steal my sunshine. jfc those songs are ear rape. Edit- literally Rolling Stones, Bruce and Gaga were the only good things about that list.

Poker face: A blank expression that hides ones true emotions. I guess I was born with a poker face, live with a poker face, and will probably die with a poker face. The only time my face shows anything other than blank is when I force it.

Try Lilly Allen, It Ain't you its me All of Allen's own song on the album are dark lyrics, with really deceptive catchy songs (The music. Highlights are the title song, F You, The Fear, Not Fair, Who'd Have Known and Every Ones at it.

A lot of comments about dark meaning bad. But dark is used as meaning unknown or unseen. Think of dark side of the moon ( which is lit just as much as the side we see) or dark matter, as inunknown

I knew that TLC's Waterfalls was dark. I knew it the first I heard it. Was a teen.
Now, I like some of the Rolling Stones music but I never listened to Brown Sugar.
That's f'ed up!

Don't think that Brown Sugar should be on the list - it isn't hiding it's content so listeners should not be surprised at it's horrific meaning. It is just very, horribly, dark.
reply

Not as dark as some of these but Flowers On The Wall by the Statler Brothers is about social withdrawal and loneliness and possibly MaDD but that might just be me projecting.
reply

I know it's smug but when people belt out Born in the USA as some kind rah-rah song - I love letting them know what the song is really about.
The same with Our Country

Let's put it this way about Semi-Charmed Life's confusion. At one point, it was used in commercials for The Tigger Movie until people alerted Disney about the song's meaning.
reply

Oh so that's what poker face means. I thought it meant a woman with a good looking face but an ugly body. As in her body ain't that great but I would still poke er face.

Chandelier by Sia. I really wish they put the song in this vid, The song sounds to amazing and bright but it has to do with a depression and acholsim.

Cherry Wine by Hozier. it's about a female abusing her male spouse but he doesn't care because he loves her and he thinks that's her way of showing it

If you were to listen to Springsteen's Glory Days off the album Born in the USA, it's an ode to his growing alcoholism while lamenting the past.

If only Nick and Judy had done that.
Any Zootopia fans who're familiar with the I Will Survive comic will understand.

In poker face, being bi isnt a dark meaning, you should replace it with Bad romance or Alejandro, they have darker meanings
