Ive always felt like Mary-Kate and Ashley are identical, despite them denying it.
A lot of identical twins are told theyre fraternal because they were born in separate sacs and/or had separate placentas, but find out years later when they get DNA tested that they were identical all along. When an embryo splits into twins really early in the pregnancy and both are far enough apart in the uterus, identical twins can have separate sacs and placentas.
Anyway, I could be wrong, but I think it could be the case with the Olsen twins. Identical doesnt mean they cant look a little different from one another, it means they have the same DNA (or at least close to 100% in common but Im not gonna get into that here, which means theyre roughly built the same. Theyll roughly (but not always exactly) be the same heigh, have the same natural hair colour and eye colour, have similar nose and ears and so on. Mary Kate and Ashley had very similar features until well after puberty, and only started looking really different when they started making different lifestyle choices.
While its true their sister Elizabeth also looks very similar to them, shes way taller than the twins, and she doesnt resemble them as much as they resemble each other.
I might be completely off though, I guess the only way well ever know for sure is if MK and A decide to take a DNA test and share the results with the public. They seem perfectly happy with being fraternal twins though, so its unlikely theyll do that, but if they ever did, Id be ready to bet money on the results being identical haha.

My guess is that they are identical, but theyre whats known as mirror twins, which would explain why one is right-handed and the other is left-handed. Identical twins can also be different sizes due to personal choices (dietary choices, physical activities, etc) made by each of them.

One being left-handed and one being right-handed doesn't mean they're not identical twins: it's just they have different ways of restituting information they stored and were taught because they are two separate persons. I mean, identical twins don't even always weigh the same, have the same height or have the exactly same personalities or interests but does that make them any less identical? This pseudo-science needs to stop.

The funny thing is that I could always tell the two Olson Twins apart. People, mostly my mom, always told me I was crazy. And just to show I'm right as an example in that last clip Mary-Kate was on the right and Ashley was on the left.
Also as kids Mary-Kate tended to be a tomboy wearing pants in her roles while Ashley was the more feminine one and mostly wore dresses.

You know just because Frankie Muniz has forgotten most of his life as a childhood star including Malcolm in the Middle because of his mini strokes doesn't mean that he isn't fond of the show or what he has done. Can you really blame him for forgetting those things? He had mini strokes! He can't help it! So don't judge him over an issue that he has.

The Olsen twins are known as Mirror Twins, where they have opposite traits-- one is left handed, the other is right handed, their hair parts in opposite directions, and so on. The same can be said for Cole and Dylan Sprouse and Deidre Hall and her sister Andrea. They are technically not identical twins, but look enough alike to pass.

wow on all of it knew selena and demi were on barney but at time no idea olsen twins on the other front they are twins they share everything yes they have other assets but still they are twins they share a birthday like any other twin does

Wow Mary Kate and Ashley topped Shirley Temple. But I am happy because people always get in such huge debates about what type of twins they really are. All we need (and it's not really a need) to know is they are not identical twins.

Yep, I knew that about the Olsen Twins. even though they did a song called identical twins. Theyre fraternal, yet I could never tell them apart; but the Sprouse twins are identical and I can tell them apart. lol
