I honestly think Zuko and Katara would have been the better choice. Like I'm not mad Aang and Katara ended up together, but like.
Katara repeatedly and persistently through most of the series reinforced that Katara had 0% romantic interest in Aang, referring to him like a little brother.
In contrast, Katara held a hatred for Zuko that went beyond what he was actually doing to her hatred founded from festering wounds regarding the death of her mother. Zuko going along with her to confront the man who killed her mother is like the ultimate setup for a beautiful romance. He showed support for whatever she wanted to do (kill or spare the man) and in the aftermath of her reconciling that hurt, it would have been an impactful segue into her being open to romance with Zuko.
I also feel like Zuko, at least later in the series, respected Katara more. Aang was of course kind, but he did that thing where you hypersimplify and glorify someone you have a crush on, whereas Zuko was more uh. real with her?
Plus like, water and fire imagery. Duh.

This might sound controversial, but I don't think there never should've ever been a season 4 or an ATLA live-action movie. I'm really not a fan of shows that were so successful, that when they came to an actual wrap-up, the creators are pressured to creating another season that usually just ends up getting really boring and disconnected from the plot. The first season of LOK is titled Air, and remember, LOK was only meant to be a twelve-episode, one season miniseries before success boomed and the creators were actually pressured to create more seasons (that was actually a good choice. So maybe that meant that the creators originally made the first and originally only season of LOK to technically fit in to be the 4th of ATLA. What do you think?

Zutara should have definitely happened it would be a very compelling story of two people coming from opposing sides and backgrounds finding their way to each other and seeing how compatible they are with each other when theyre both ready to open up, find common ground and realise what each other brings to the other persons life. What a missed opportunity I always saw Aangs and Kataras connection as two siblings born from another mother. It could even be argued that Katara was acting as the parental figure Aang lacked and desperately needed, which is a relationship that she also needed and matured her.

Another fun fact: Tophs male design was actually hinted at from the beginning. The shadowed earthbender at the opening intro in every episode was actually the early design for Toph, just like the waterbender is Pakku, the firebender is Azula and the airbender is Aang. But after Toph was changed into a girl, they made a homage to the original design in the Season 3 episode The Avatar and the Fire Lord when Roku was showing Aang how the war started. Rokus earthbending master, Sud, was given the same design as the original Toph, just older

Like Chuck on Gossip Girl, he wasn't supposed to be a main character either. And Zuko didn't actually wind up with Mai in the end. And could see that he and Katara working better then she and Aang. Iroh's loyalty would have actually been a nice twist. The unaired pilot and inspiration for the show was (is) interesting. And technically, we did get a 4th in book form.

Cmon, theyre the classic Yin Yang couple, best water bender and best fire bender, motherly type to brooding fatherly type, both lost their mothers to the war, spicy enemies to lovers, cooled self assurance to violent metamorphosis, it makes sense. I liked that they picked the less romcom ending tho. Makes the rest of the story more believable and interesting

A redemption arc for Azula would have been lovely, what an immense disappointment for the fourth season being canceled in favor of the abysmal movie. I personally would have like to see how the writers would portray Iroh's betrayal, though that will deeply hurt Zuko and thus have to rely on Aang and friends for emotional support.

Whoever voiced Sokka got very lucky that he got to voice one of the main characters in Aaron Ehazs new show, The Dragon prince. If you watch the show you dont even need me to tell you which character is voiced by the same guy, even though this character is not as goofy as Sokka. So go watch it on Netflix!

Why did when avatar Korra only discovered airbenders in the earth kingdom. Never the other nations. Like the fire and water nations. Or am I the only one. Yep didn't think about that. Find me a clip where Korra visited other nations to find air benders.
reply

Honestly, Avatar TLA was basically a set of lucky decisions. Even the creators cant recreate what made it great, as seen in Legend of Korra.
One more reason to just leave the show be. It was a great show and shouldnt be tempered with any more.

it is SO hard to believe Zuko is a last minute thought. He has THE BEST redemption arc ever, in my opinion. But I am speeking as a major Zuko fan. Avatar without Zuko. I don't want to think about it. I like Zuko to much to.
reply

I honestly felt that Zuko and Katara had some chemistry between them, and I think it would've made more sense for them to end up together, but that's just my opinion, and people have the right to disagree with it.
reply

The fact that we didnt get to see Jets death but leave him in a critical condition actually added quite an emotional farewell to the character that might have been lessened had he just died in the moment. Show dont tell

After hearing all these facts, it makes me appreciate one of my all time favorite shows even more! I cant imagine this show being different at all! Ive been a fan of this show since day one and always will be!
reply

I am so glad toph is a little blind girl who is probably one of the strongest characters ever!
I would have stabbed myself if Iroh betrayed Zuko: ')
Shipping Zutara ever since I was a kid lol

reply

The video did not mention that the Earthbender in the opening was Toph's original design. Pretty sure that's common knowledge but disappointing that they only mentioned the Ember Island Players.
reply

Zukoxkatara wouldve been better than aangxkatara, tho Aang was a good kid, but Ive found him a stocker in the Aunt Wu episode! Also he never showed any sign of jealousy in the Jet episode!
reply

Always liked zuko. Even when he was evil. I think my favorite anti hero moment of him is when he dressed up at the blue demon to save the avatar from the general in like book one.
reply

I am glad they didn't made Iroh betray Zuko. It would have destroyed everything pure about the show and lets not forget 1 defeat is enough for Zuko with his permament scar.
reply

I'm not surprised that the fanbase is growing. It's a good show for the whole family. The tale is simple enough for children, but emotionally complex enough for adults.
reply

I would have hated Katara hooking up with Zuko. Aang needed to get the girl in this show and not drop the ball on this one like they did with Harry dating Hermione.
reply

Probably one of the best animated series released. It's been 10+ years and people are still talking about it. I've always wondered what happened with Zuko's mom.
reply

Wait a second, the guy who stared as Tavington in The Patriot also stared as Commander Zhao in Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Series? I did NOT see that coming.
reply

As bad as the Iroh betrayal twist would have been, the fact that it would of come out of nowhere with nothing to back it up actually makes it even worse.
reply

Wow all these little things that could have totally broken the show that we know and love. The writer gods were totally looking out for this show
reply

Even though Katara loves Aang, gets married, have kids named after characters and have grandkids. Although I love the fanfiction of Zutara
reply

zutara was not almost canon fortuantley, werid rumor I always see floating around. They had this show planned out years before it aired.
reply

Zuko's redemption is one of the best moments in the series. I felt soooo good when zuko told ozai that he was going to join the avatar
reply

Toph and Ty Lee are my favorites. Also, I like Aang abd Katara but I feel like it was to easy. It is okay though. I accept the choice
reply

My heart literally stoped when you said Jason Isaac was in avatar bc avatar and Harry Potter are my favourite things on the planet
