I know it's not the traditional type of, I Love You, scene, seeing as the words of affection are never actually said and the realization of what was communicated comes in the next scene after, but that scene in Your Name where Taki tries to exchange names, with Mitsuha is so good and perfectly sets up the reality that Taki did not write his name, and instead wrote, I Love You. I love how you can read so much into that action and why he chose to leave her with that message instead of his name.

I don't consider the ending to Edward Scissorhands sad at all. In love stories, there are no true sad endings. Because even though he and Kim never see each other again. when he makes snow, it's Edward's love letter to her. It's his way of telling Kim he loves her, and will keep on loving her for as long as he lives.
