For those of you who were disappointed by this series, how Penny was never a well developed character, and how it ended, let me recommend you this:
.
What could have been, by son-goku5.
.
WAY BETTER than the actual show. It takes place THROUGHOUT the show, but has real and better character development for Penny. It's mostly from Penny's POV, and it also gives her more depth by showing/including her family from Nebraska as well as her family. It definitely made me feel better about how disappointing the last five seasons were. The show should have just ended with Leonard and Penny getting married. Also this story puts Penny in moments where she wasn't. (Vegas and Camping Trip where the guys were Tripping while Camping; she gets high too. Also, there's a huge twist that makes the show honestly look dumb in romantic story telling. There's also more Penny vs Sheldon in it, to the point that Sheldon messes with her job and she messes with his schedule. Penny also doesn't become unlikable in it, and remains her before she got married self to the end. Her fate in this story is also a lot better. And Leonard's proposal is WAY better in it. They also show Leonard interacting with her family more often (they also show him asking for her parents blessing, which is a very well written moment) and he even tells Penny he's jealous of her for having nice parents. Leonard also gets REAL character development in this story too. He grows up and acts less nerdy but still remains a nerd (for example he missed half a day of Comic Con to take care of Penny when she gets a headache. That's what I call maturity. And when Raj uses the whip sound, to make fun of him for taking care of her, Penny gets all mad for them making fun of Leonard and she even mentions his problem with Emily and the Iron Maiden. When all he's doing is something thoughtful. What's best about this story is that while they do act like their sitcom selves, Leonard and Penny develop more realistically like REAL PEOPLE. READ IT! Also the author is German, and I think he's a physicist, because he writes science dialogue that's offscreen. Penny also comes to hate Beverley a lot. She also stands up for him when someone flirts with her and denigrates him at the same time, because she knows he never was able to do it his whole life. Its really beautiful. At one point she even calls him in her mind, her soulmate.
Penny and Leonard plan a REAL wedding, and they exchange actual beautiful vows, and makes it clear she wants to have a genuinely happy life with him because he at one point in the story says that life will go by and all that a person will have is a regret of not doing something. Leonard is a little philosopher in this story. He even tells Penny hes thinking about changing his name to Leonardo, cause it get rid of the word nerd in his name, but ultimately doesntt.
Penny is actually really smart in season seven and eight; she comes up with a way to trick Sheldon into giving them the apartment. You see the author writes a reason why Penny is uncomfortable with Leonard moving in with her. It is because of her asshole ex who cheated on her before she met Leonard. Penny thinks that her and Leonard also being neighbors is convenient and practical. So when Sheldon gets hospitalized in season four for weeks, Leonard in a very Chandler Bing fashion asks Penny to move in (in this story they dont break up like in season three, and their relationship starts off WAY differently) with him as a trial. Hes smart and tells Penny he knows the real reason. When they get engaged she tells Leonard they cant live in her apartment, so its either A trick Sheldon into moving out or B, find a new place, and make it our own. Sheldon is more intolerable and unbearable. When Leonard does move out, they basically show no real sympathy. Penny even tells Amy that its HER job to prepare Sheldon for when they get married since shes his girlfriend by will. Excerpt:
Amy waved it off and looked at her. Are you determined to live with Leonard after you're married?
Of course. Penny scrunched her face in confusion. He'll be my husband, why would I not?
Well, I heard the secret of a successful relationship is separate apartments. Amy hesitated, clearly uncomfortable.
Amy, did you tell Sheldon yet that he has to get used to the idea that he won't be living with Leonard anymore? Penny asked her friend.
Well.
Dammit, Amy! Penny huffed.
I haven't gotten the chance yet to approach the subject. Amy justified her recalcitrance. I'm afraid he'll run away again.
Amy, let me be clear. Penny said. After Leonard and me are back from our honeymoon, we will live together. Whether it'll be here in this building or somewhere else, I don't know yet but Sheldon will not be living in the same apartment.
Fine. Amy huffed.
Go back a minute, clothing has an expiration date? Bernadette interjected.
Yes, it's called fashion. Penny nodded as Amy picked up the red dress from the top of the keep pile.

I don't find most of these all that mysterious. For example, the writing is on the wall that Stephanie and Leonard are going to break up in their last episode together. And we never really hear about Priya again either, even though that relationship was even more serious. The bottom line is that something from the past will only really be mentioned again if it's relevant to the story of the moment. We're so used to serialized TV now that we expect every story line to be explored in detail (perhaps even ad nauseam, but episodic TV is traditionally quite different. The writers pick and choose what is significant and worthy of exploration and everything else is just left to the viewers imagination. Sure, it would be rather cool to have more closure on some of the stories. For example, we can expect that Priya continued to visit her brother from time to time, but it's not surprising that her and Leonard never saw each other again, or even desired to, after a bad break-up.
On a further note, I don't think there's much mystery to how Leonard gets Penny. From early on in the first season, we can see that Penny is very attracted to Leonard from the very beginning, although she spends about half the series denying it to both him and to herself. But both characters grow, with Penny becoming deeper and Leonard becoming more self-assured and confident. This doesn't make their eventual successful relationship inevitable and Leonard continues to have to work to win her, but it does make it far more probable and the episodes actually do a good job of exploring how Penny comes to overcome her hesitancy and how Leonard's qualities come to help her in coming to an epiphany that she actually loves him as much as he loves her.
Not to say that this isn't an interesting video. It is. It's just that most of them seem fairly obvious by implication. Not all of them of course, but most of them. I certainly would have liked to learn more about Alex for example, but she was there as a catalyst to push Penny towards a realization that she values Leonard far more than she's been willing to admit to either herself or Leonard. Once a secondary character has fulfilled their primary purpose in the plot, they generally aren't ever seen again and that's not unusual for episodic television.

I wish they kept the Raj and the Veterinarian story line, Raj deserved better treatmen, he had a lot of charachter developement at that point in the series and it feels it was needed for him to have a final girlfriend to stay with. For God sake He went from mute when he was close to a woman into a man that can date any woman he want. maybe for comedy flavor the Vet should be very extrovertive to contrast with Raj.

The thing that upset me the most is when Leonard confronted Kurt about the money he owed Penny who found herself struggling to pay her bills.
Kurt refused to give Leonard the money but used the situation to his advantage by approaching Penny directly and repaid her. Penny never know it was Leonard who help her in obtaining her money back. The writers missed a romance scene!

Raj had the beginning of a relationship with the cleaning lady for the last two episodes of a season.
She was a strong, self-assured woman.
Raj would have had to work through issues about her being working class.
That was just dropped.
I think it could have been a very interesting story line, and very possibly a good relationship for Raj.

Courtney Henggeler (Missy. Was the only reason I started watching TBBT. I saw her on Cobra Kai long before I even thought of TBBT. I feel she didnt get enough episodes. Especially after watching Young Sheldon.
The Leonard insecurities while dating Penny. She wasnt the only attractive female he dated, Priya (Aarti Majumdar) is gorgeous.

priya actually got married after Leonard. i think in the episode raj ask his father to arrange a marriage for him his dad states that he has 6 kids 5 of whom are married. i dont think im the problem meaning the only one not married is raj. so she obviously got married. i have always thought it was with her ex she cheated on leonard with.

Priya actually got married sfter leonard. I think its in the episode where Raj asks his dad to arrange marriage for him and his father says i have six kids five of whom are married. I dont think Im the problem that should mean Priya got married and I have always thought that it was to her ex that she cheated on Leonard with

None of these are valid
The majority are just jokes that weren't brought up again
Most of the rest are episode subjects that weren't brought up again because its an EPISODIC show
Leonard and Stephanie just broke up end of
And Howard's dad wasn't dropped Howard didn't want to meat him so he didn't

That was what made Seinfeld the greatest sitcom of all time. Once a character entered the Seinfeld universe they were repeatedly mentioned or brought back. although Paul Reiser leasing his apartment to Kramer in Mad About You and George watching it with Susan is kind of a screw up.
reply

This is what I love about how I met your mother. Everything in that show is answered or revisited at the end. Theres not questions left by the time you finish the series.
Big Bang ended earlier than expected. They never got to finish many storylines hence why Raj never found love.

reply

Definitely Raj and the Vet. Most of the time, the lonely trope character finds something in the end, but it's like the writers went out of their way to make sure he's still single in the end. I mean, damn, no one can be that unlucky with women.
reply

With the #2 Raj situation, actress Danica McKeller probably didnt want to be in the show more than 1 episode. Otherwise I'm sure they may have pursued it. Stephanie played by Sara Rue was a weird one, though.
reply

i was surprised none of sheldon's or amy's family went to the nobel prize ceremony. i'm sure the real reason is not enough time in the episode or the actors weren't available, but mrs. cooper should've been there.
reply

I've never liked the fact that the show ended with Raj still single and alone. The other three guys were married, and even Stuart had a steady girlfriend. I always thought it was a bummer that Raj was left out.
reply

Raj and Tyson met in one episode then they acted like they never met before.
Penny's sister never seen?
Howard never saw his brother again
Sheldon knock X3 never exists in the first episodes

reply

Except for Howards dad and Dr Stephanie, these arent story arcs, they are one-off episodes. Story arcs require a sequence of installments/episodes. Otherwise they are just plot fodder for an episode.
reply

What happened to Howard's brother? If someone turned up on my doorstep claiming to be my brother it would be a massive event but he's never mentioned again by Howard or any other character,
reply

They didn't forget about them. They just discarded them because they had served their primary purpose: getting an episode done and paying the overrated actors their undeserved paychecks.
reply

Amy would have been a much better match for Raj than for Sheldon. Why didn't Sheldon keep one or two of those cats? It would have been cool to see Sheldon keep one cat or maybe two.
reply

When once asked what happens after that, a great sitcom writer said who cares? It's not funny after that.
So yeah this happens a lot with sitcoms so we should just let it go.

reply

Because there is sometimes conflicting or unresolved situations, I always pictured every episode is like a multiverse, every episode may or may not be related to other episodes.
reply

ive come to the conclusion we just see the many different versions of the show because they are all in parallel universes. there are just too many unanswered questions.
reply

I love this show but I was so mad and disappointed when they did not have Raj wanted with a love interest he should have met the person he was going to stay with
reply

Nope. The greatest tbbt mystery is not how Leonard got Penny. Y'all forgetting we never knew what Penny's last name was before she became a Hofstadter
reply

When they finally fixed the elevator, they may have found the bodies of the many characters that mysteriously disappeared from the shows story line.
reply

Tenure. Who got tenure? Most are these are just relationship hook ups and no longer in their lives.
You never met Leonards brother or sister.

reply

Still haunted by the memory of Chuck, Richies older brother on Happy Days, he walked up the stairs with a basketball and was never seen again.
reply

What about Bernadette and Stewarts book for children: the frightened little astronaut? We never find out if it gets published after all.
reply

Sheldon was allergic to cats in one of the first episodes when Leonhard brings one home to end up with like 10 when he broke up with Amy
