Man, why did these couples have to break up? For this list, well be looking at romantic pairings in films who experienced a truly regrettable split. Our countdown includes Prime, Becoming Jane, Casablanca, and more! Which movie couple do YOU wish stayed together?

I can honestly say I hate all these movies! I mean, not literally but they dont give me what I was longing for: closure. A Happy End. The reason I watch this stuff. Brokeback mountain left me so devastated that I have only watched it one time.
What totally annoyed me was Ravis decision. She ended things with David because she wanted a child. But when the movie ends, it looks like she is still dating. So my question is, what was she actually looking for? A relationship or a child? Because lets face it. It was never about both. If she wanted both she couldve stayed with David. They loved each other and he wouldve done anything for her. If it was just about the baby there wouldve been much easier ways

I've actually changed my mind on Adele and Emma from Blue is the Warmest Color. They were just all wrong for each other and no amount of youthful passion could fix that. The party scene where Emma runs into her future spouse kind of drove that point home, that Adele would comfortable settle into a life together but never comofortably fit into Emma's world. It was also an echo to how Emma met Adele--while she was still dating Sabine. Emma and Adele were doomed. It was devastating to realize upon my second viewing of the film (years after my first viewing) but I couldn't see a happy future for that couple.

Cruel intentions is really a cruel movie, if u know what I mean although he started to become better, he died. (all because of love)
Becoming Jane is the reason why I want the 2 main actor/actress to become real life couple. Still another tragic ending.
Casablanca is 4ever iconic movie (along with Gone with the wind, the way they ended just get me on my feet every single time luckily, I'm good enough to not breaking my dad 4k TV
La la land. the movie of dream. So I think everything is really just a dream, the love, the dance, the song. Their ending actually could make sense in some points

Charlotte Heywood and Sydney Park from Sanditon. So adorable together! Would have gotten married but Sydney had to marry a different women because her fortune was the only chance to save his brother. End of first season, they split and it was expected to be the end as Jane Austen died before finishing Sanditon. But a second season is now coming out so maybe, and hopefully, they will end up together.

The divorce rate last year was 44. 2%. Lists like this that romanticize infidelity ( 3 out of the top 5 ) are part of the problem. The list doesnt even acknowledge the spouses that got cheated on (yes, the husband on Casablanca was quite reasonably assumed dead, but the argument from WatchMojo implies that him being alive is irrelevant.

The break-up is an unfortunate reality of simply choosing not to communicate with your partner. Its such a good movie and the ending was realist and perfect it was the whole point of the movie. If they got back together even though it was clearly too late the audience would have learned nothing from the characters mistakes.

I actually liked Mia and Sebastian breaking up. Sometimes, you have to make sacrifices to achieve your dreams, and they both wished each other well at the end. The fantasy sequence showed that nothing much would have changed had they stayed together, and Mia seems happier with her husband.

1) I don't think it is ok to include coulples in which one dies, that should be another list
2) I dont agree on The break up because that type of guys will never change and the 2 of them would just be miserable always
3) I would have put Dear John on the list

I don't know if it was The Simpsons or The Critic, but there was a joke where they had an alternate ending of Casablanca. It was treated as a joke and a farce, satirizing how audiences want a happy ending no matter what.

1. Becoming Jane
2. The Bridges of Madison County
3. A Man and a Woman
4. Blue is the Warmest Colour
5. On your Wedding day
6. Ek mein hoon aur ek tu (Bollywood) eventually on her side there is nothing.

I have watched The Bridges of Madison County multiple times and I have cried everytime. I don't have a romantic bone in my body but I understand sacrificing your own needs and desires to accommodate another's

I dont think Elle and Noah should have broken up in The kissing booth 3. I think their relationship couldve survived long distance. They were fighting to be together. I did not really like the ending to that trilogy

I actually support the break up for entry 10, Ive never been a fan of the idea of guys being with woman who are much older than them especially ones who couldve given birth themselves when the guy was born.

Spoilers Elio and Oliver get together in the sequel Find Me. Elio's father divorces and ends up with a younger woman, and Oliver and Elio have lovers and romances but end up together again, older and wiser.

Not sure I agree with half of this list. Relationships are beautiful but longevity is not always built into all relationships. Trying to stretch it be on that can be not just ill advise but toxic

La La Land is one of my favorite movies ever but it does have a sad but realistic break up in the end. It's not a bad thing that they break up but it is sad as a viewer watching it.

Three of the couples on this list, and I count the honorable mentions, are LGBTQ. Even they aren't immune to breakup and heartache, and poor heartache to those poor old folks.

Becoming Jane was based on Jane Austens life. She and that guy would of had to ended up together in real life for them to have lasted in the movie. Jane died a single woman.

The fact that any list containing Casablanca and Bridges Of Madison County should be relegated to positions lower than 1 & 2 is beyond me! I demand a recount!

Can we NOT romanticize Oliver's gr00ming of Elio? I know when I was a little younger I felt the same way. But, guys, Oliver was is 24 and Elio is 17.

I just watched The Bridges of Madison County, its so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. Robert and Francesca are both perfect together.

Elio and Oliver do end up together in the sequel novel. Oliver goes back to Italy for Elio and they end up raising Elios baby brother together.

How is it that Brokeback isn't on first? Bet its bc they are gay. That one made me cry 4-5 times, and I will not even see La La once more. Cmon.
reply

La La Land ending is just perfect. Adds up the melancholic touching feeling that makes their relationship so significant in their lives.
reply

I think if you place Casablanca in the they should have ended together category, you didn't understand what Casablanca was about.
reply

Nah, I think Knives from Scott Pilgrim deserve someone better than Scott. He wasn't really a good boyfriend to her anyway.
reply
