The 21st century has already given us so many classic musicals. For this list, well be looking at the most iconic shows that have dominated Broadway since the start of the millennium. Our countdown includes Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Aladdin, and more! What's YOUR favorite musical of the century?

Beetlejuice was so much fun and it was great! But to name it better than Hadestown is pretty much a FAIL. Granted, it's the only fail I see in this video, at least from 2010 to 2020 (I'm not as familiar with the contenders on the ealier years. Hadestown is IMO the best musical since Dear Evan Hansen. actually maybe since Hamilton.

I love beetlejuice, but man, Hadestown really deserved the tony for best musical. The meaning of every single lyric and every single note in the melodies are breathtaking. Yeah, beetlejuice is great, but the aigh't at the beginning of the show all the way to the goodnight, brothers, goodnight at the end deserve the crown.

I did a music theatre showcase a while back and sang I Know the Truth from Aida (sung by Sherie Rene Scott. My choir director said he has never heard me sing that well, especially for that song. Scott perfected I Know the Truth at 33yrs old, yet I did it in my early teen years. I have never felt so proud of myself.

Genuine question: Will one of the Hadestown defenders in the comments explain to me why they love the show so much? I was very excited to catch the tour in the fall and was ultimately underwhelmed. I just want to know if it's a case of different tastes or if I'm missing something.

Idk what years these came out but here's a list of a few that definitely should have been there:
Heathers
Be more chill
Les miserables
The greatest showman
Mamma Mia
(And yes some are movies but they are still musicals technically Hamilton is also a movie)

As an obvious six fan (pfp and name) Im SO glad its now a broadway smash hit! The characters gave got to be one of my favourite casts. Toby and Lucy so deserve it!

As a dancer I prefer musicals that have big production numbers. I also like upbeat musicals. Leave the sadness and the downers for plays. Interesting video.

100% dont agree with kinky boots over Matilda! Matilda is still selling out seats and a hit musical film, whereas Kinky Boots isnt even still playing!
reply

shout out to Somethings Rotten for being SO FREAKING FUNNY but debuting in 2015, the same year as Hamilton
everybody listen to Somethings Rotten lol

reply

I am so glad to see Legally Blonde, I cannot recall seeing it on any of Ms. Mojo videos which is a shame. And I will be rewatching after this video
reply

I really do like next to normal, but Jeanine Tesori's score with Danny Troob's INCREDIBLE Orchestrations, I feel that Shrek the musical is better
reply

i wish more people knew about Tuck Everlasting, but Hamilton came out a couple months after tuck was on broadway so it got very shadowed: /
reply

I think Heathers should be in this list I don't know when it was made but it closed in 2014 and is still being done all over the world
reply

Im realizing just now that I thought all of the musicals up until Legally Blonde were 10 to 20 years older than they actually were.
reply

Hadestown is a top 5 all time musical. On my opinion it's Hamilton, Hadestown, West Side Story. Lez Mis is different taste but 4.
reply

I know the The Producers sweeped the year, but another show that should've at least been mentioned in 2001 was Urinetown.
reply

Thanks for giving Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson the credit it deserves! People have completely forgotten about this gem!
reply

Lin Manuel Miranda made it. Its probably good like hes made some of the biggest hits is Moana in Encanto too
reply

Yes! In the Heights, Hamilton, Wicked and Dear Evan Hansen where on here! I must have a great taste in musicals.
reply

I'm really shocked Fun Home isn't even mentioned (unless I missed it. My favourite show of the last decade.
