In these live stories are the Full Court Press: where the guy persists beyond the comfort level to disrupt her job, other relationships and in general, her life.
This is a form of grooming a target for control. A guilded cage with a kind, benevolent master is still captivity.
The best romantic decision was evident in Lara Croft Tomb Raider 2. Lara's former lover tries to hirn in on her mission. She leaves him handcuffed to the ved as he is famous for making bad decisions and she doesn't want to have to shoot him. He escapes, horns in on finding Pandora's box, which he tries to talk her into selling. When cajoling fails, he assaults her. She shoots him and returns the box to it's place.

Tom does not find love or success elsewhere. He starts looking, but it is left too open ended to definitely say he found anything. He was still unemployed and looking for a dream job. He projected all his career expectations onto the architect profession and thought he was qualified, but he had no experience and he did not think about the viewpoint of the employers who hire architects. He just selfishly expected the architect profession to fulfill his professional desires and give him fulfillment and passion. It was as if Tom went to architect school because he saw romance movies that did not research the profession and he completely missed the point.

I remember when I saw 500 Days of Summer. It's was a first date with a guy I'd met at a show a few nights before. He started crying (like sobbing heavily) at the end of the movie. He kept saying he knew how that guy felt and how the movie was so romantic. I didn't know what to do besides hug the guy and then get outta there. Personally, I love JGL but Tom was kind of a jerk. I thought the movie was truthful not romantic. Never saw that guy again. A few texts but I was like yeah, nah. I don't think you're ready to get back out there.

I completely agree with list that you chose. I havent seen all those movies but now Im definitely gonna watch them. There just one movie that I would add and it would be Lalaland: I know people didnt like the fact they werent together at the end but I loved the end because it shows that love isnt a happy ending by itself for everybody and you shouldnt always give up everything youve been dreaming of for love.

I love that after Tom spends most of the film trying to make Summer into HIS idea of the dream girl, without caring about what SHE wants, he learns to rely on himself, and not his fantasy. And when they meet up again, he sincerely tells her that he's glad that she's happy.

My beautiful, handsome sweetheart left me unexpectantly 2 days after my 60th birthday. I will see him when I cross over to where he is and he will meet me so I'm not scared.

Those moments in romantic/rom-com movies made it worth watching. Sure, there are moments where it can be heartbreaking, but overall the characters are happy in the end.

I really thank God that Lou broke up with Patrick. He was so selfish and he only cared about himself, he didn't care about her, about what she wanted.

Time travelers wife had to be done so precariously to not come off as blatant grooming. I still find it pretty creepy most of the time.
