In 1999, Mariah is being recognized as the female artist who had, at that point, accumulated the most Billboard number one hits. Mariah, who accumulated several more after that, is STILL holding that position, AND now holds the position of the SOLO artist with the most #1s on Billboard.
Her 18th number one was Touch My Body in 2008, and it was eighteen years after her debut. Then, a few years ago, All I Want for Christmas is You became her 19th number one hit, literally DECADES after landing her first.
So, this woman is being honored for something amazing in the 1999 clip, and, in true Mariah fashion, she found a way to go bigger and better. Say whatever you want about her, dahhling, but she is an icon and an absolute legend who has continued to find ways time and again to firmly cement herself in music industry/recording history and is still relevant to this day, 33 years after she debuted at the top of the charts.
Fan or not, THAT is impressive and utterly impossible to deny.

Omg that being #1 is SO right. That performance was crazy. The way she connected to the song on its anniversary, but also near the end you see her realize what she is singing. She has almost a panicked look on her face, but it's her realizing she's singing this song to her husband. Realizing that he has to be safe in my heart because her heart is going on while he was gone. And it must have meant so much because she never even wanted to DO the song. She didn't like it. But he convinced her to do the demo of it and the demo was approved for the movie. She went back in to recut it for her album but originally it was the demo that made it into the movie. Because he wanted her to sing it. So that moment for her must have been overwhelmingly emotional and is absolutely beautiful to watch.

I agree with the number one I was balling.
She had lost her husband and her brother of the same cancer and they both passed away within two days.
She's an icon she's on a different level Whitney's gone, I think Mariah and Celine's time has come and gone.
They were the vocal Trinity and I don't think it will ever be replicated in our lifetime.
That kind of music isn't popular and I don't think it ever will be again.
I think it will stand the test of time but I don't think big ballad power ballad music will ever be in Vogue again

I agree with Celine taking the #1 spot but I think her most memorable and heartfell performance was The Show Must Go On. This performance still gives me chills to this day. It was her first performance after losing Renee and you can see her struggling to keep it together at the beginning but she managed to hit those notes without her tears taking over.
To me, there is no one who can connect the emotions to the lyrics like Celine

Just remember, these are their picks, their opinions, etc. If you didn't see your favorite despite an epic performance or one of the absolute best were beat out by someone who straight-up sucked in comparison, don't fret it.
And, there will always be some bias in regards to the content creators favorite insert video topic here when it comes to them deciding best of lists.

In the USA actors and musicians usually overdose and die. Why can't US presidents.
And the way Americans treated poor little Britney Spears was disgusting.
Shame on you USA. Shame. Shame. Shame.

That hologram was not even MJ. It was of an impersonator. He had never performed that song and therefore there was nothing to use for the hologram. The whole thing felt wrong!

I think one singer P. A. was lip syncing bc her song was too perfect note & tone to her original from the original. after all these years. ok then. its a show after all.

I can forgive saying Prince's career is 'tens of decades' long but I draw the line at Whitney Houston's 1991 performance not even getting an honorable mention.

Celine Dion's live performances are always incredible, I was lucky enough to sit thru one, and her voice gave me chills all night.

The background music during the narration is annoying and unnecessary. Its a distraction and takes away from the artists.

The britney spears one Was just weird. She was just staying and throwing Hands. The dancer did all the work.
