It isnt really about the artists whose parents are in the business. Its more about that movies and music used to be art, not just business. Movie and music companies have become soooo lazy about promoting originality. Was Dune great? Yes. And there are a lot of great artists who are actors children (or lets say actor sequels) that are great too. But what about original stories, music and talent? It feels like the the art is gone and only business remains.
reply

Oh. Someone just brought me back to this video, and I thought of someone else originally famous for their relationship to a family member who, clearly, deserved recognition for their own work.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It was originally his famous father, Leopold, trotting him around the circuit, much like Will Smith keeps trying to do with his progeny, except Mozart was actually good.

the only Nepo Baby who deserved her fame was Paris Hilton. She never claimed she was talented or worked hard. And always always admitted she got in because of her family connections. As entitled as she gave the impression.
Rest all are pretenders. They know they only got in because of their family connections but yet give the impression they are talented and worked hard.

Not so long ago kids followed their parents footsteps in life. If your dad was a carpenter you became one also. It was that in almost all professions including acting. It is not so much nepotism as tradition. What bothers people today is the money privilege and power involved. Back in the day actors in most cases were seen as little more than gypsies, near do wells.
reply

Placing Jamie Lee Curtis higher than Jane Fonda is criminal. Shes having a moment and thats fabulous but body of work Jane Fonda has given the entertainment industry should be beyond question. Evidently its not.
JLC is a working actor and a good one but not many are getting in the business saying I wanna be Jamie Lee Curtis, the actor.

reply

I don't think there is anything inherently wrong with children going into their parent's business and absolutely some are worthy. What irks me is when they pretend their connections were not helpful to them in their rise. There is so much talent out there that does not even get a chance so give props where it's due

Amanda Plummer from Pulp Fiction Christopher Plummers daughter, top notch, What's her name Martha Plimpton from Goonies etc, Kieth Carridine's daughter, another pro. Dirk Dently actress who's dad was in Robocop, Brad Dourif's daughter, Fiona Dourif, so great from Dirk Gently Holistic blah blah blah
reply

Oh my gosh just stop! Many children go into the family business or profession because thats what you grow up with! Please STOP calling it nepotism! As long as they get there with their own talent, education, qualification etc why call it nepotism which has such a negative connotation to it!
reply

I had never even heard of Billie Lourd before this list. She's had small parts in a few movies (thanks to mom) and a few roles in fringe TV shows. Zoe Kravitz was Cat Woman in the Batman film, in Big Little Lies, and starred in Kimi. What exactly was the criteria to be on the list?
reply

Many of the nepo babies are not really talented but get the job anyways. Many other hopeful/more talented actors moved from the middle of nowhere, worked their way through acting class while waiting tables and go from audition to audition to be extra number 2.

5: 51 He's also been a voice actor, voicing Patrick Henry on the 2002-03 DIC animated series Liberty's Kids, alongside fellow MCU stars Annette Benning (Mar-Vell/Supreme Intelligence) as Abigail Adams, and Sylvester Stallone (Stakar Ogord) as Paul Revere.

Some very knowledgeable people in the comments reeling off others. The only ones I haven't seen mentioned I will name are Duncan Jones and Kate Hudson.
And it was criminal omitting the fact Antonio Banderas is Dakota Johnson's stepfather

reply

That list didn't include Bridget Fonda, the daughter of Peter Fonda. She was in the films like The Godfather Part III (1990, Single White Female (1992, Singles (1992, Point of No Return (1993, It Could Happen to You (1994, and Jackie Brown (1997.

So many people deserve to be one this list but IMO it immediately lost any credibility starting off with Miley Cyrus. Then, Jane Fonda? While they are nowhere on the same level, but still. There are better people to put on this list.
reply

What is the point of the honorable mentions? I love Zoe Kravitz, Enrique Iglesias, and Maya Hawke (I had no idea who her parents were! No wonder she has her mother's quirky allure, and Dan Levy - Schitt's Creek is a gem!
reply

NEPOTISM works only at the start, only talent & hard work can keep u there. Some do take advantage but that in every field. But talent & hard work no substitute for that. I think u need little bit of luck also.
reply

People have been using their personal connections to further themselves for centuries. All this nepo baby shit is just a media hyped term to give people an excuse to hate on a particular celebrity.
reply

Mojo, whos doing the research here? Im almost baffled that you would list Spartacus under Tony Curtis and fail to mention when speaking of Kirk Douglaswho is literally the star of the movie
reply

As long as someone is qualified to do what they do there's no problem. Yes, they didn't pass the same struggle to get into audition but they deserve for their talent or doing a great job.
reply

Angelina Jolie, Jamie Lee Curtis, Miley Cyrus, Kate Hudson, Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez, Michael Douglas, Carrie Fisher and Billie Lord, Jane Fonda, that's my list of top ten
reply

Idk if it's because of my age (I'm 29) but most of these celebrities have earned their own fame entirely despite their famous relatives since I had no idea they were nepo babies
reply

Ron Howard deserves number one. His father was a character actor who took his sons on set. Ron went from child actor to award winning director. His daughter is talented too.
reply

Drew Barrymore, Liza Minelli, Keifer Sutherland, the Sheens, the Bridges, Gwyneth Paltrow, Isabella Rossellini, to name a few off the top of my head.
reply

There are a lot more actors/actresses that should be in this list.
Liv Tyler
Drew Barrymore
Mariska Hargitay
Just to name a few.

reply

I was surprised that I knew all of these except one. I had no idea that Lilly Collins was Phil Collins' daughter. Somehow I missed that.
reply

Nepotism is fine a long as you are talented. Angelina Jolie is the best actress in my eyes and she will always be my n. o 1 tomb raider.
reply

How can you forget the dude, man. Jeff Bridges. The El Duderino. Son of Lloyd and Dorothy Bridges. He couldve been in the Top 10 easily.
reply

You forgot about Michael Gandolfini (son of The Sopranos' star, James Gandolfini) and Cooper Hoffman (son of Philip Seymour Hoffman)
reply
