I am quite happy that people who like me have seen Say yes to the dress, are aware that the snarky mother who actively promotes ana or does any kind of body shaming isn't just a complaint from Tiktok's Gen Z.
A few years ago I even did a bit of my own research and some may not believe it but the majority of people with body image issues got them from their family members, the closer/more immediate the family member is, the worse the person feels. Most females in particular name their mothers' behaviour.
I won't claim that the media isn't at fault too, but to me it feels like it mainly contributes and continues the job but doesn't usually start what has been started at home and school/social groups. As an ethnic minority, the pressure is even bigger in places with a smaller and closer community even if they aren't active on social media.
There needs to be more awareness on this kind of behavior from family members. Luckily my mother wouldn't act like number 5 Momster and would criticize her even but she still would body shame me.

My mother is like over half of these mothers. Always critical, would probably never pay for me to have a unique wedding dress, would make the event all about her, etc. These types of people exist in real life. Some of them think they're being funny or honest, but actually they are just self-centered, lack imagination and vision, and are a drain on a wedding. I would not hesitate to kick family and friends out of my wedding any longer or even cancel the wedding if my mother were to pay for it. It's not worth it.

The black dress was gorgeous. The fact that people put so much meaning on the color is silly (not talking about other cultures here, I know there is cultures where wearing a certain color or gown is important to them and that is fine. White is traditional choice but not everyone wants that and it is not a rule that a bride has to wear white. Let the bride wear what color she feels comfortable in.
Also I was giggling at the dog falling asleep in that girl's arms while she was giving the interview. So cute.

The episode where Randy walked away disgusted by the mothers treatment of her daughter during the appointment. Poor Samantha. I hope she found her dream dress WITHOUT her mother. If I were in the same situation I would pay for my own dress & wedding and NOT invite my mother. I know how mean that sounds but a wedding is an occasion for celebration. Samanthas mother made it all about her not her daughter Samantha. So wrong on so many levels.

The moms are rude and mean and dont think before speaking at all. But some moms are nice and sweet but the moms on the show need to think before speaking its not fair and nice to their daughters wonder why their daughters dont want to bring them to wedding dress shopping in the first place. I hate moms who are disrespectful and rude to their daughters when they have the wedding dress they like.

After working in a bridal salon, those who are surprised by how the entourage/mothers make comments on the brides body while in the dress or even during alterations appointments that it gets that heated, it happens more often than youd think. Something about weddings just makes people throw out their manners and kindness and patience.

Starting to realize why these shows have made me absolutely terrified of possibly having to shop for a wedding dress one day. I would hate to be the center of attention like that, and to think of having to be so casually judged and verbally abused. I can only hope that the people around me would never treat me that way.

I dont like most of the dresses that theyre showing on here, but it has nothing to do with the bodies! Also the ones body shaming are about the same sizes, its not ok to do that!
