Okay I know this is way long to be adding a comment but wow wouldn't it have been awesome to have a clip of Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom? I like Antonia Banderas, and it's always really nice to see him. But he isn't a theatre person as much as he is a celebrity that decided to become a theatre person. Whereas Ramin Karimloo is a theatre performer that performs in movies that are theatre based for most of his career (no not all of it but he has 16 credits on IMDB and when you scroll most of them are theatre on TV. So he would've been so great for either a Phantom clip or a Les Miserable clip! In fact he originated the role of The Phantom (and Raoul) in 1986. It would've been so great to have had one of those clips. I know how hard it is to take on the task of this and everyone has an opinion! You did a wonderful job with the list! It doesn't feel complete without Ramin belting out one of those roles as you presented the other great songs in the musical.

I wish you didnt limit the songs, one per musical. So many musicals have numerous superior songs. I do not agree with your choices. Examples; Guys and Dolls, lll know when my love comes along. The Music Man, Seventy-six trombones in fact, The MusicMan has so many fantastic songs. How about Let me entertain you from Gypsy? How about The age of Aquarius fro Hair? Here are some musicals that have numerous songs. The afore mentioned Music Man, Phantom of the OPERA, WEST Side Story, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, Oklahoma, Cabaret, and many more. Some of songs you mentioned arent very memorable. In fact, I didnt recognize over half of them. In fact, listening to them did little to inspire me to see the musical. Just my opinion.

I truly wish your programs had been available while I was teaching MUSIC APPRECIATION, to high schoolers! These would have been fantastic. Thank God for movie musicals. through them I was able to introduce them. to the broader world of music it offers. I am also glad we had concert versions of musicals, too! Sometimes during Les Miserables there were tears. At the end of the school year, these tears told me how far they had come in their knowledge of music. CLASSICAL thru POPULAR!
Theere is one thing your list of 100 proves. We need list #2 & #3. There are so many fantastic songs & so many fantastic mudicals!

Horrible choice for Camelot - If Ever I Would Leave You, I Loved You Once in Silence - so many better songs than Simple Folk. Kinky Boots - definitey Not My Father's Son. The Wiz - Home. Maybe This Time is NOT from the musical Cabaret - it was added to the film. Cabaret is the best song in the play. Sweeney Todd - Not While I'm Around. Funny Girl - People hands down. Phantom - better than Music of the Night? Lastly - One Day More - no way it is better than Bring Him Home.

Excellent collection. My only regret is that at #25 - Being Alive - you kept showing images of Neil Patrick Harris, but not one note of his absolutely astonishing rendition - the best I have ever heard. Personally I could have done without Annie and Tomorrow, but that's a personal preference. If nothing else you reminded me of a slew of wonderful shows and performances I need to watch again. Kudos!

I loved listening to all of these - old and new - Broadway hits! I was wondering when you'd mentioned Les Miserables (there are so many) so glad to see they were saved for last! Tough to choose because we have so many beautiful, singable, memorable Broadway songs!

I sincerely cannot believe more Book of Mormon songs aren't on this list. 'Hello' was maybe the 4th best song of the show. If anything, 'I Believe, 'Sal Tlay Ka Siti', or 'All American Prophet' should have taken its place.

You credited Rita Hayworth for singing Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered from Pal Joey, when she was in fact dubbed by JoAnn Greer. While Hayworth had an acceptable singing voice, she was always dubbed in movies.

Yes Mojo! I'm SO glad you used the word incomparable to describe Jennifer Holiday's version of And I Am Telling You. Jennifer Hudson was great but Jennifer Holiday just can not be touched in this song
reply

The list only includes one song per musical. I'd like to see a top 100 list of songs from musicals regardless of how many are from any one musical. In such a list, Id think Le Mis would have quite a few!

I was gonna be so upset if Rent wasnt on this list. Glad its number 2 Rent is my favorite musical. Granted ive only seen the movie and clips of the orginal show but i love Anthony Rapps voice
reply

I love the list, but I can't watch Les Miserables for the same reason I can't read the book. Victor Hugo is too depressing. And I know how horribly the French Revolution turned out.

Imelda Staunton, Barbra Streisand, Bernadette Peters, Idina Menzel, & Kristen Chenoweth -broadway icons and in movies
Patti LuPone -only one in a cartoon show, Steven Universe

I was in a musical play of Peter Pan as Tiger Lily at my old school in Village Glenn. For another musical I did there, I was on TV. No kidding, I was on TV while singing

You officially lost me with Ol' Man River at #39. Any serious list would have placed it firmly in the Top 10. (Who writes these lists. high school sophomores)

Roses turn is without a doubt one of the best broadway songs ever made its so heartbreaking and yet theres this victorious undertone with it
reply

I find myself adding multiple versions of some of these to my playlist. How to choose between Bernadette Peters and Ethel Merman for example.
reply

Personally, I love You Will Be Found from Dear Evan Hansen, and Bui Doi from Miss Saigon. Both are emotional and extremely powerful.

Some songs bring tears to my eyes. happy tears, sad tears. but old man river. every. single. time. only have to think about it.

I appreciate that little shout out to As Long As Youre Mine, I love it but it seems like one of the most underrated Wicked songs.
reply

I knew One Day More would be number one. It was my first musical Id ever been too. I was 16 so it was over 30 years ago.
reply

So fun to watch! Camelot and Newsies were the only misses for me. Would have chosen If Ever I Would Leave You and Santa Fe.
reply

Being a Les Miz fanatic I was hoping it would be on the top 10 atleast. I got emotional when it was number 1
Thank you

I really wish that Fly, Fly Away or Live in Living Color from Catch Me If You Can made it somewhere on that list.
reply

My dads favorite is If I Were A Rich Man from Fiddler On The Roof and When Theres No One from Carrie the Musical
reply

I think El Tango De Roxanne from Moulin Rouge and Crowd of Thousands from Anastasia should have been included
reply

this list would be better if it only included songs written for shows and not from other bands/movies
reply
