Wow, we should NOT have been watching these shows as kids. For this list, well be looking at the most notable television series from our youth with the inappropriate jokes that went right over our heads, as well as shows that still give us nightmares to this day. Our countdown includes Jackass, Family Guy, The X-Files, and more! Which show do YOU have second thoughts about watching as a kid?
Date: 2023-11-21

As soon as the first episode off The Season 1 off The X. Files ended with the now bloody amazingly iconic but unnerving freaky as hell tune and the on screen ending.
It was slapped or pummelled there and then literally with a European 18 certificate rating or TV-M media classification in USA or various international film rating classification global counterparts.
And the eventual announcements that further episodes totaling 218 over 11 seasons was greenlit.
So yeah The X. Files is for adults only and only adults 18 and upwards. RRRRIIIGGHHHTTT?
Course outta all dammmme 218 episodes whole certain ones beginning to middle and the end was dark from the onset or twice as fcuking dark or horrifyingly uneasy about what's gonna happen next or truly scary shit or unknown blood freezing creepiness or seriously disturbing or not for the multiple faint off hearts or bastarding eerie from the off.

If you ask me, Jerry Springer should come in at number one. Besides, what about All That, Saved By The Bell, High School Musical, Glee, ICarly, Sam and Cat, Hannah Montana, Sonny With A Chance, The Jonas Brothers, Lizzie McGuire, I Didnt Do It, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Drake and Josh, This Fred Guy from Nick, The Loud House, Ren and Stimpy, Jessie, Swans Crossing, Beverly Hills 90210, Melrose Place, Barney and Friends, The Teletubies, Futurama, Childrens Hospital, Land of The Lost, Bizardvark, Phineas and Ferb and most importantly The Last Two Seasons of The Electric Company?

Didn't actually watch most of these shows as a kid, but the ones I did were Unsolved Mysteries, Rocko's Modern Life & Are You Afraid of the Dark. The only one I regret because I just wasn't ready for the awesomeness that is scary programing was Are You Afraid of the Dark. I ABSOLUTELY would watch it again now as an adult though! I also feel like I didn't really watch the other two regularly enough to realize how bad of an idea it was for me to be watching them and I was somehow mature enough for the content in the episodes I did watch of both of them.

Okay, I'll be honest: The Cryptkeeper scared me as a kid; whenever Tales From the Crypt starts, I would go running like heck, just to avoid looking at him. Now that I'm older, I actually enjoy that show.
Hey, Watchmojo, when you get around to it, be sure to make us a Top 10/20 Episodes from Tales From the Crypt list, or maybe even a Top 10/20 Cryptkeeper Moments. Perhaps John Kassir, the voice of the Cryptkeeper, could be featured to give us insights on his favorite moments from the show.
Happy Almost-Halloween!

I watched Jerry Springer and it was my own fault - that was not my mother's kind of tv show! Rocko's Modern Life (Had a friend who loved XFiles but, I wasn't into it) I watched Unsolved Mysteries but I don't recall being a young child watching it. I was afraid of almost everything but even I was able to handle Are You Afraid Of The Dark. South Park came out when I was in middle school. I did watch a few episodes but, I discovered it just wasn't for me.

I remember seeing the likes of Beavis and Butt-Head, South Park, Family Guy and Tales From The Crypt in my youth. Family Guy isn't like it was 15 or 20 years ago (I was constantly laughing uncontrollably at that show in that time period, B&B and South Park are some of the most intelligent adult oriented offerings out there and I have greater understanding of Tales From The Crypt due to showing how karma truly works.

I watched all of these shows as a kid to teen years. I have seen bits and pieces of Beavis and Butthead episodes along with Jack ass. South Park, I only liked one or two of the original first season episodes. Family Guy was funny and original in the first few seasons. Loved Rocko's Modern Life, Unsolved Mysteries, X-Files, Tales From the Crypt, Are You Afraid of the Dark
reply

I remember watching all these and I still do but tales from the crypt
I was scared to death of him all I had to was hear his gates open and I was out lol I start watch it at 17 on the fear the network and I loved it mind you I was pregnant with my oldest daughter and now she loves it to lol the stories where really good and I was mad that they didnt have more seasons

i can verify Jerry Springer wasnt staged. when I was a junior in high school this girl, her boyfriend, and her boyfriends boyfriend were on the show. they had all graduated the year prior and everyone had known what was going on. we even knew how this white guy and asian girl had a Mexican baby.

I would always sneak; stay up late to watch Tales from the Crypt and I didn't have any nightmares from it. Now, Are You Afraid of the Dark? was a different story. I would have nightmares, but I never would tell my mom because I didn't want to stop watching it.
reply

Fun fact: The first Final Destination movie was originally written to be a TV episode (I think for the X Files, but when the guy who wrote it told his friends about it, they convinced him to make it a full-fledged movie instead, and the franchise was born

Hi everyone its Maryanne here the x files gave me bad nightmares and the fact that i was watching it when i was in Forster care to and i already have bad nightmares anyway to because of my birth mother and want she did to me and my only big brother to
reply

I remember running down the hallway whenever the intro to tales from the crypt came on. lmao. it scared the hell outta me when he popped up haha. I would sneak and watch behind the couch etc when my parents would watch this on HBO. still a BIG FAN! :)

When I was a kid, I was completely addicted to South Park, just by seeing what it was like. My parents, however, kept telling me, This is for adults ONLY. It's an adult cartoon, but I never listened. So, that is why I got into trouble.
reply

Jerry Springer, X-Files, jackass, unsolved mysteries and are you afraid of the dark, given that these shows aren't cartoons, whose parents were letting young kids freaking watch those shows, also Goosebumps SHOULD'VE been on this list.
reply

Oh man was 9 when I watched Ren and Stimpy unaware was not for kids, Rockos Modern life doesnt count because I was in my teens. Are You Afraid of the Dark wasnt too scarry to me only some episodes.
reply

My kids are grown now, but I was the strictest mom in the neighborhood. I didnt let my kids watch any of these. Maybe Roccos Modern Life. We only had 1 TV so they could only watch in the living room.
reply

Omg yes are you afraid of the dark rocko ren and stimpy watched jerry Springer when I was out on breaks from school loved unsolved mysteries wish they played the original version with robert stack
reply

I remember ren and stimpy it was summer 2003 and the new network called spike tv and it was a thursday night and ren and stimpy was on and I had some you know and my dad won't let me watch it
reply

We 80s kids had a saying I'm not afraid of the dark, I'm afraid of what's in it. And wasn't their a show named Friday the 13TH? The two leads tracked down cursed items bought in their shop?
reply

There are so many shows back then that kids shouldn't watched. Like AEon flex, duckman, stripperella, black scorpion, American Gothic, to name a few. My brother used to watch Ren and stimpy.
reply

These shows have made me who I am today and I don't regret it at all. Also, Are You Afraid of the Dark was awesome. Also, X-Files made you a little bit paranoid about the world. LOL
reply

I rememver getting scared by the X-files intro, then 5 minutes into the actual show almost dying of boredom and finallly switching to something else. But I really like the show now.
reply

I'm a 90s kid, but Unsolved Mysteries was my shit in high school. When Netflix released their version, I had a fangirl moment and binge watched the seasons they posted
reply

Unsolved Mysteries scared me so bad as a child I love it now. Ive watched all of the episodes as an adult. The scariest part of Tales from the Crypt was the intro
reply

I watched South Park as a kid and I dont regret. I wasnt allowed to watch it, but I sneakily did it. I also watched tales from the crypt and it didnt scare me.
reply

gross factor not into any of that I'm so glad that I watched anything else cause not into it springer on the other hand more for teenage age not any other age
reply

I found South Park later in my teen years, I think I saw a little of Family Guy when I was a kid, and I'm pretty sure Drawn Together caused some scares too
reply

I am just shocked Ren and Stimpy was not on this list lol come on Rocko was not that bad and my brothers were obsessed with tales from the crypt
reply

Hate to say it, but I was an adult by the time these premiered. What about Circle Of Fear? What about Journey To The Unknown? What abut Kolchak?
