Ok some people have dirty minds. Not once did l get the impression that there was anything but a fatherly relationship between the Prince/Duke & the countess. He was her husband's godfather, there was nothing wrong in supporting the countess during her grief. Yes this is a drama loosely based on historical fact, shame on you Miss Mojo for implying it was any other than that. Prince Phillip was a kind & loving man who did a great service to his country & more importantly his wife on family. Regardless of it being real life or on tv. Alot of people believe what they see or read is true, when 99% of the time, comments like that only fuel rumers & speculation, let the man rest in peace with his wife our beloved Queen. It might be your country's way of doing things but Prince Philip was the spouse of the commenweaths Former Queen. Not to mention disrepecful!

This season went so easy on Charles I think the writer must want a peerage He's modern, sympathetic, charitable, charming, reasonable. Yes, they show his ego and pettiness and solipsism but it's excessively tempered to the point he seems like the hero of his family. I love Dominic West as an actor and think he does a good job with the writing, but come on, the guy is Posh and is literally in Chuck's (extended) social circle. His wife designed gardens for/with the now-King and has a fabulous castle in Ireland that needs upkeep. I'm not saying he soft-pedaled his performance exactly but he's. sly, or something. Last season's Charles and Diana were much better. I see nominations for West and Debicki (who was fabulous) but I don't see double wins like last time. Overall S5 was pretty anti-climactic.

You got it WRONG on Prince Philip having an affair in the season 5 Crown. The Crown made it more than CLEAR it was a platonic friendship when Prince Philip took a fatherly interest in Penny, giving her comfort, after her daughter died of cancer and they discovered both had an interest in restoring antique carriages. Nothing else was shown or hinted. Which makes sense to me. Penny came from a wealthy background. Since his money would not attract her, why would anyone think a woman of 35 with her status would have an affair with a 70-year-old man. Perhaps a gold digger/opportunist would, but not a woman like her. You also do not know how to pronounce Romanov with all the documentaries out there of that family I can't understand how you made that blunder.

I thought it was very kind of John Major to stick up for Charles here, especially as he could be forgiven for keeping very quiet, as he comes out as one of the hero characters this season himself.
I actually think his depiction is quite fair, considering he was always portrayed as the boring, 'gray man' at the time. He was actually a very decent Prime Minister (something i'd never usually say about any Tory) and was hugely involved in the Irish Peace Process, which Tony Blair always gets the credit for. I wish they'd done more than just briefly refer to that. The Peace Process in NI was SUCH a huge part of the 90s and such a massive relief to all involved. It deserves more screentime.

Charles and Camilla love and inability to stay away from one another doesn't bother me and I am sure there is a lot noone knows or understands about their relationship. I just think the way Diana was used and treated is what makes it so maddening for people. You can't help your feelings but you can help bringing people in to it that don't deserve to be hurt. Too many people back the institution no matter who they harm. Shocking because Diana was so beloved. You would think people would wise up to what really goes on there

I like that Ms. Mojo acknowledged the Meet Cute moment between Diana and Mohammed. I thought that felt very Meet Cutey, and it seemed like a cute opportunity to make the story more compelling. Then ending with Princess Margaret talking about an Oak tree growing out of an acorn of happiness. Haha. I thought it was poetic and well-done for trying to spin an attention grabbing storyline out of the tragic end to a beautiful life of the actual princess Diana. Anyway, Love you videos Ms. Mojo! Get it GIRL!

The vast majority of content in the Crown is made up because the producers didn't get the Royal Family to sit down and give them all the goods, and rightfully so. The Crown has a lot of historical accuracies, but face it, no one know what was said here or there by any member of the Royal Family. Unfortunately, many watchers will think this is all 100% gospel truth. The producers are certainly not the most ardent supporters of the Monarchy at best.

I think Diana had at least 70/100 things in life that make you happy. But she could only focus on the 30 she didnt.
I think the show does give you a chance to see her as a complicated figure, immature and damaged. Its too bad she couldnt get the therapy she obviously needed. And Charles too. He acts like a victim as well I just wanted Camilla even though Camilla didnt want to marry him when he was single. Their relationship is messy too.

Many couples can say very personal and private things to each other, especially in the early heady days of romantic love. But one certainty does not expect to be spied on by a listening device then spread all over the papers. highly embarrassing for anyone, doublely so for a Prince in line to be King.
Should NOT have happened
Should NOT have been printed in the papers.
That in my view was over the line and below the belt.

I do agree with the final point about how literalizing Charles ADVOCATING for abdication was a real and significant mistake: Though the scrambled egg scene I found very moving really except for the dumb way it concluded which again made Charles look like a real jerk, having been apologizing and getting bigger than the pettiness and then entirely succumbing to it even after Diana said the name Camilla!

The three actresses playing the Queen do a phenomenal job Im very impressed by their performances. The more I research about the Queen at those different stages of her life, the more I admire the professionalism of the actresses. They all look and talk like the Queen and even have her mannerisms. Great team effort from the production In general, the series has a great cast

I think Charles and Major were being very hypersensitive. I am almost done watching season 5.
Charles will always have Diana in his legacy. No amount of PR can take away how he harmed an innocent person who loved him just to be made victim of his own creation.
Major wasn't the prime minister who Charles had the conversation with, but it was had.

I've watched ALL of the Crown. I don't doubt or believe all of it. One thing- when Diana was all alone suffering- where was her parents and siblings? Someone explain to me why the Crown presented her life as if the royals cut her off from any support? Where was her parents if she was that I'll and miserable?

Do you think [the show] went too far this time [depicting Charles]?
No. No, I don't think they went far enough. He could never sacrifice what he wanted for the line of duty of the monachy, and the show was right to show him as a whiny, entiltled, prat, crying while holding a silver spoon in his mouth.

Re the comment on Prince Philip giving D N A for the identification of the Romanovs I have always understood that it was Prince Charles who gave the DNA-he was of course son of both The Queen and prince Philip, therefore his Dna would have been slightly stronger than Prince Philip.

Actually, the part about Charles and Diana sharing a meal after the divorce isn't that far from the truth. Apparently, Charles dropped by to see Diana from time to time and still sent her flowers on her birthday. Sometimes, people get along better when they're NOT married.

I have watched the episode and I love prince phillip and penny's relationship. Prince phillip helped a young woman going through her grieve by introducing her to new hobby. I think that's a nice and delightful idea bcs some women really do need a hobby to cope with grieving

Its almost unwatchable due to the casting this season. Imelda Staunton is not good at all. Shes like some kind of mousy grandmother. No presence at all. She is definitely not Elizabeth II.
The first 2 seasons were the only ones with great casting.

I feel like the british are soooo prude and anal about this. Because not being a britt myself i found myself having more respect for the royals after this show. BUT because of all the crying about it, i am losing that respect each season.

I think it should be illegal to make a fictional account of real people. Okay, add a few private scenes that one can only assume happened but an entire fictional storyline, NO! Either tell the truth or give them fictional names.

Knowing what kind of a dirt bag Prince Phillip was and his proclivity for females, I say there is a high % of him preying on Lady Penny. She was extremely vulnerable and predators like Phillip have a keen eye on such prey.

The show never portrayed a Prince Phillip's affair! He explains that it's a friendship! They just show that the Queen might have doubts, but they never show any romantic affair. So it's your point which is WRONG here.

A scene that got to me was when Diana was going out to eat with Mohammed after the ballet. The moment where she's riding in the car with motorcycles around them. I felt the foreshadowing for next season.

Still to this day everyone complains about Charles behaviour, yet in truth he was in love with Camilla which nobody should have interfered with. No wonder he was a complete arsehole at times.

one thing the sound department gets wrong in every episode: the car stops with a squeek No Rolls Royce owner would condone this let alone a queen. or a duke or any chauffeur on the payroll!

Never saw an affair between Philip and Penny. I belive he treated her like a father giving confort to a daughter that lost a child. This assumption from MOJO is very wrong.

The casting for the Queen is terrible. Imelda moved her head and eyes too much when she talks, not regal and not ERII at all. I kinda got distant with the series since Imelda
