I guess I should have reread the title, because I thought it was stuff that didn't age well in rom-coms, which 8-9 of these didn't age well (Especially Ugly Truth and all the friends (especially the boyfriend) in Devil Wears Prada. But Harry cheating on Karen I thought was a great, heartbreaking storyline, and is probably the best aging storyline of the movie. Especially because it was emotional cheating (flirting with another person, not physical cheating yet (ie he hadn't gone on a date with the other chick, nor had he done anything physical, other than buy a necklace. He was flirting with the idea, and being careless with his marriage, yes. This makes for a more complex understanding of mature relationships and is in effect more real than most rom-com stories. The fact Emma Thompson pulled from her own experience with her actual ex-husband's affair made their scenes talking about it doubly impactful. And at the end, there is still hope, because he realizes he was being an idiot about his actions, and that he really loved his wife, and didn't want to destroy his family over what he knew was going to be just a flirty fling. So they decide to work through it. In the final scene, they are healing as a couple, and it's important that not be overshadowed as unforgiveable.
I'm not saying cheating is acceptable, because there are levels where it's clearly unforgiveable, and that's when the relationship is unsalvageable. But he hadn't crossed that line yet, as we see in the final scene, they are salvaging the marriage, which shouldn't be ignored in the grand scheme of their story.

The Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan movie you should have put on this list is You've Got Mail. In my opinion, that one is the absolute worse. Tom Hank's character finds out Megs character is the competition in the form of a small neighborhood book store vs his soul less big market book store chain. He even jokes with his father on how they feel it is necessary to destroy any/all competition wherever they open a new store and how much they enjoy it. He doesn't tell her who he is, dates her and finds out her dreams. Sure he thinks he's in love with her but that doesn't stop him from ruining her dreams, and running her out of business. And for what? MONEY! I guess he loves money more than her. Than to add insult to injury, the writers have her FORGIVE him at the end? What was with that? Yes, you drove me out of business and you killed all my dreams. I have nothing left so I might as well stay with the person who destroyed everything I dreamt about and worked hard to build? As you can tell, I absolutely HATE this movie. I watched this movie when it first came out because I loved Sleepless in Seattle and hated it. I forgot about it and re-watched it a few months ago and remembered that I hated it. Mr. Big has nothing on this jerk!

The Truth About Cats and Dogs is one of my all-time favourite movies. It's fun, it's quirky and it's relatable - in all of its characters. For me and my own experience, Abby was the most relatable because she was the one who felt and saw herself as the wallflower, the invisible one. And yes, Noelle was beautiful physically and the first one other people noticed, but Abby was well-respected and cherished by the people who knew her - Noelle included. She just needed to see in herself the beauty that the ones close to her saw in her. And so did Noelle, who realized she was so much more than just a beautiful body. That's why I adore this movie - is about finding your worth and uplifting each other. And btw, in real life, when we are trying to be there for someone, we don't always get it right the first tries. The real flex is in not gving up and just keep on trying.

The scene where Noah threatens to take his own life if Allie doesn't choose him over her fiance in The Notebook is better suited to a horror movie than a romantic comedy. There's nothing even remotely cute or endearing about romanticized abuse and manipulation. Not that I was cheering for Allie, either. She was terrible in her own ways. But that scene was truly sickening. It's been years and years since I've seen that movie, but I thought the only happy ending was that the character played by James Marsden didn't marry her and at least had a chance of meeting someone who knew how to behave like a mature adult instead of a spoiled rich brat.

I love Khloe, and she has always been my favorite KarJenner. But in one breath she says she was always super confident, proud and loved her curves. Then the next breath she said she was embarrassed shopping with her friends and sisters and felt humiliated. And in the past she always said that she struggled a lot with being the fat sister. Shes just plain lying right now. Its easy to be a role model, and advocate confidence for plus sized girls AFTER youve lost the weight and get skinny. Especially after all the work she has had done on her face and body. I cannot be the only person who knows thiscmon now?

I didn't feel for Carrie. Big wasn't into the fancy wedding and all of the hoopla surrounding it. If she opened her eyes just a little bit, she'd see how uncomfortable he was. If she acted as if his feelings were important too, they'd have a small to mid-size wedding. I know it's her character's first and possibly only wedding. But if she really loved him, she'd meet in the middle. It ended up with them marrying at city hall. She could have saved all the humiliation if she planned a smaller more intimate wedding in the first place. But instead, she gets married at city hall.

I definitely not agree on number 1. I am on Bigs side. Carrie did everything Big asked her not to do and she ignored what he wanted for the wedding the whole time and is then surprised he felt uncomfortable and won't come? Also He literally came and wanted to talk to her about it like a mature person one minute later, cause he tried to tell her before the wedding too but she didn't listen. And she acted like someone died and felt hurt for weeks. She wasn't even that sad when he spoiler alert actually died.

Absolutely 100% disagree on number one. Big is in the wrong! No! When she did everything she did against his wishes. He tried to talk to her, many times and she absolutely did not care. She went ahead and did everything for herself, once again. She is the most self centered, entitled person ever on screen. He did everything right and she gave him no chance. He should have stayed away and went for someone who would actually have called him an ambulance when he was dying.

Emma played by Anne Hathaway, dumps her man because of some other issue, but I think he had a lucky escape. but it's ok because Emma marries Liv's brother in the end. So it's all good. even though both of them just come off as deranged

No string attached, very toxic relationship. Rom-Com but not funny (except for side characters, not romantic, mostly traumatic. They hook up after that he is suddenly in love and he pursues her the whole movie while she repeatedly says no, cries, screams, yells and what not. Then he finally gives up and goes on proper date, and she stalks him, ruins his date and says she actually loves him. The end. WTH did I just watch? That's romantic?

9: 20, you say we don't have time to get into why she has inappropriate photos of herself, but that part was SUPER cringe too! She took nude photos of herself for a much older, married man, and was planning on giving them to him unsolicited. Let's be fair and equal here, there's SO MUCH wrong with that whole subplot! I wish you'd included everything wrong with that, not just the giving of nude pictures to a 13-year-old.

I found Big's cold feet moment completely unbelievable. After he figured things out, went all the way to Paris to bring Carrie home, bought her a fancy apartment with a custom closet, etc, we're supposed to believe he suddenly wants to bail? It was a forced moment to create an excuse for the rest of that lame movie.

I agree with all of the others on the list, but Carrie was definitely wrong! Big had doubts about getting married again and she knew it! She gaslit him into an ultimatum and that NEVER works out in the end! He was not wrong for having feelings! She was wrong for pressuring him!

Thanks for bringing out the real message behind these scenes. Growing up in the seventies, we were fed all sorts of entertainment where the woman just had to put up with the bad boy behavior, because the goal was always to bag the guy, irrespective of his massive down side.

Mystic Pizza, The Truth About Cats and Dogs, and Sleepless in Seattle are all great movies. However the one that takes the cake for me is When Harry Met Sally. Those 2 have so many arguments you start to wonder if they became the couple in War Of The Roses.

He was a hedonist, and an extremely honest one.
Only someone who looks like Gerard Butler could get away with acting like that, but he was completely truthful in everything he did in that movie.

I actually liked The Ugly Truth. What he says is true. Men are pigs. If you except that and still want them, then you can see all the other good qualities that they have. I just didnt like it because they have zero chemistry.
