Top 3 (In my opinion):
1. Finding Nemo
2. Kung Fu Panda
3. The Lion King
According to how long it took me to comment, this was the toughest choice EVER! I had six movies to choose because their music so God damn good, it was so difficult to decide, and I apologize for the long wait. This is where I finally made my choice, both Finding Nemo and Kung Fu Panda are the best scores I've ever heard but the reason I put Finding Nemo at the top spot was it was so calm and relaxing, the smooth music was so powerful, I loved it better than the Chinese music in Kung Fu Panda, even though their music was unbelievably outstanding. I would say the music is best used with violins, flutes and of course pianos. The lion King also was worthy enough to take the last spot because it so catchy and amazing with its African music, it is definitely worth listening to over and over again, however, the reason I lower it down on this list, and that goes with other movies on this list, was because some music was used in songs, I am judging this based on their musical soundtrack or background. And there you have it, and like it was so difficult, it messed up my mind. Can you guys figure out what other movies I had in my mind? I'll give a hint: it has a connection with one or more of these movies on my list. Let me know. :)

When are you guys ever gonna stop putting The Lion King at number one on lists like this? You still think that it hasn't topped enough lists already? Why won't you give other animated movies a chance to make the top spot? Why Lion King all the time? Are you really that scared of facing backlash just for not doing what everybody expects you to do? And why do you have to keep leaving the underrated Disney masterpiece that is Treasure Planet off of lists like this? Let me guess. It's abysmal box-office performance, isn't it?

Speaking of game-changer, Don Bluth's animated film The Secret of N. I. M. H. is also one because it was the first animated film scored by Jerry Goldsmith. And he was the first composer to score an animation as if it were a live action film, that is to say, to eschew the Mickey Mousing that had traditionally accompanied these things and rely instead on giving the picture a real dramatic core. The approach was, of course, brilliant, and that's the way that most animated films are being scored to this day.

Flawless film scores missing from this list:
- Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas by Harry Gregson-Williams
- Atlantis: The Lost Empire by James Newton Howard
- The Nightmare Before Christmas by Danny Elfman
- The Land Before Time by James Horner
- Beauty & the Beast by Alan Menken (if Zimmer can have multiple entries on this list, why Menken can't)
- Although How to Train Your Dragon by Powell recieved an 'Honorable mention', it is amongst the best

little salty that Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron wasn't at the top of this list. the scores in the movie are incredible and are what make the movie that much more amazing! The fact that there is minimal dialog and yet the story told is so profound is like none other but the entire soundtrack for this movie has got to be the best animated soundtrack of all time, next to Tarzan, which I'm also surprised didn't make this list.
reply

I adore the soundtrack from Tangled and I feel like it is ignored! The music is breathtaking and emotional and just beautiful. I agree with others that Up and In and Out should be on this list, and that How to Train Your Dragon definitely should have been more than an honorable mention. Thank you, though, for such a great list! There are a few that I'm not as familiar with and would like to explore more.

Hunchback of Notre Dame. It didn't win any awards, and that's criminal because, in my opinion, that score is one of the best that Disney has ever come out with. Considering that it's on my list of Maybe 4 movies that I don't really care for from Disney, that really probably should say a lot.
I also think that How to Train Your Dragon should be higher on the list because that score really moved me.

I feel like James Newton Howards various Disney animated scores deserve a mention: Atlantis (The Submarine, Treasure Planet (Silver Comforts Jim) and Raya and the Last Dragon (Running on Raindrops) all stand as some of his best work.
And How to Train Your Dragon deserved far more than an honorable mention. Its easily one of the best musical scores ever written.

One of the greatest musical scores for an animated movie are in my opinion are The Land Before Time from the late James Horner, Inside Out from Michael Giacchino and the underrated Batman: Mask of the Phantasm from Shirley Walker. They're epic, emotional and were robbed for an Academy Award. Truly beautiful and worth hearing.
reply

This honestly should be a top 20 since there are so many good ones. John Powell doing the How to Train Your Dragon soundtrack and Michael Giacchino for The Incredibles are among my favorites. Powell for httyd absolutely killed it. Forbidden Friendship will forever be one of the greatest scores in animated movies
reply

Of all the Alan Menken scores, Pocahontas is what you went with? You're not even going to mention Hunchback when talking about him, let alone not include it at all? Or The Little Mermaid? And how do you make an animated scores list and only call How To Train Your Dragon an honorable mention? I can't. I just. I can't
reply

Seriously why would you put Pocahontas and brave on this list but not How to Train Your Dragon and ratatouille everything else on this last was good but ratatouille and How to Train Your Dragon should have been on this list instead of Pocahontas and brave. Those movies have way better soundtracks
reply

It is an absolute crime that How to Train Your Dragon is an HONORABLE MENTION. That is one of my favorite movie scores of all time. This list is filled with some amazing composers, most of which are my favorite, but the fact that HTTYD didn't even MAKE the list.
I am upset.

reply

Last comment-How about Big Hero 6? Wreck It Ralph? The Princess and The Frog? and especially Soul? Noticed that MsMojo has a video about the Top 20 Disney Movie Soundtracks. There's always going to be missing soundtracks from these lists for many people. List should be top 25 or 30!
reply

How to Train Your Dragon was just an honorable mention? So many of these choices were amazing and appropriate, but having HTTYD anywhere but the top 5 is. wow. I guess I'm biased, but I thought that music was absolutely epic and it moved me like some others on the list did not.
reply

Let's be honest; how is how to train a dragon only under honorable mentions but finding Nemo is on the list? Sorry, but when I think about how to train a dragon, the first thing I think about is the score. For finding Nemo I cannot even remember it.
reply

Excuse you. The Treasure Planet soundtrack by James Newton Howard is the GOAT. Followed by the Brother Bear soundtrack by Mark Mancina & Phil Collins. Yes they may be my favourite Disney movies but one can not deny how BEAUTIFUL these tracks are.
reply

The fact that neither Up nor Inside Out made the list is a crime. I get that only ten spots are available, but theyre some of the most emotional and powerful scores in any animated movie and deserved at the very least an honorable mention
reply

HTTYD deserved the number 1 spot, or number 2 at least. Its score is an actual masterpiece, it'sone of the main aspects that cemented what an amazing trilogy it was! Putting it in as only an honourable mention is just disrespectful: (
reply

Soul and Up both won Oscars for their original scores, but not even a shout out? I also would have put How to Train Your Dragon in the top 3 of the list, as opposed to honorable mention. I can get behind Lion King, though.
reply

Can't believe there's no love for Jerry Goldsmith's score for Mulan.
That haircut scene?
That avalanche scene?
His theme for the Huns?
It was so good it got an Oscar nomination too!

reply

1. The Little Mermaid
2. The Lion King
3. Pocahontas
4. Hercules
5. Tarzan
6. Tangled
7. Frozen
8. Frozen 2
9. Prince of Egypt
10. Joseph King of Dreams

reply

Also James Horner's efforts for the Don Bluth animated films should also deserve some mention:
The Land Before Time
An American Tail
An American Tail 2: Fievel Goes West

reply

the Rio soundtrack should of at least been an honorable mention, maybe in a part 2 video, i dont anyone who doesnt like Brazilian Samba, and yes i know Brazilians like Funk more
reply

Ever stopped to think that the Lion King isn't as good as you remembered? It's good don't get me wrong but not good enough to for some reason be number one in every list.
reply

How are Tarzan and Spirit NOT in this list, so much better then toy story or wall-e. 100% not agree with this list except for nr1 and other hans zimmer scores
reply

Indeed I stick with both the prince of Egypt in second place and to places in first will greatness the lion king is the most successful scored scene record.
reply

I know its very classic orchestral arrangement but James horners land before time score is amazing and deserves at least a top 20 spot.
