The crown has been great at preserving historical accuracy throughout the first season but there are some facts that they did get wrong. Apparently Prince Phillips comments to the Kenyan dignitaries never actually happened? While Prince Philip is known to put his foot in his mouth, he was never that disrespectful as shown in the scene. The fog didnt cause the panic. Find out more in the video!

There may not be a written record of some of Phillip's outbursts, but--even at the time--there were rumors of his hissy fits over the vast chasm between his wife's status and his own. One such is reported in several biographies of the royal family where Phillip is reported (and cited in the Bibliographies) as saying, I'm just a bloody amoeba! Keep in mind that Elizabeth's mother, the Queen Mother, didn't trust Dickie Mountbatten (Phillip's mentor) and didn't much like Phillip and the Queen Mother's influence over ER II was more than anyone else's. Phillip was a class-A racist, had a sharp tongue, and rather low intellect. On a visit to Canada, while the royals were still amassing their wealth, there was a report that Phillip was talking to an executive of The Bay (a Canadian department store which is what USED to be The Hudson Bay Colony trading company. Out loud, he asked how much he and Elizabeth had earned from The Bay's stock. I had the opportunity to shop in The Bay during a visit to Canada. They had a wide selection of Sadler tea pots, which were well worth the price.

Everyone says that bc of Philip's background he would have already known expectations and wouldn't have refused. What people fail to recognize is not only of his life as a royal before marrying Elizabeth and what expectations he would have had but the fact that we have seen in real time through people willing to talk about certain things that where one would assume the royals would know to behave a certain way, they in reality would do the opposite and we only know this bc someone blabbed when they shouldn't have. I'm not saying, take everything for fact but all one has to do is look at what we know is fact and see and understand that the creative licenses taken may actually hit closer to home than what anyone (that could be hurt) would like or be comfortable with. Remember, this is the British Riyal family, look at their history, does anyone really think they want anything out there that makes them look bad or threatens their power.

There has been much speculation, not least because of historical parallels, about when precisely Elizabeth became Queen. It undoubtedly happened when she was atop the African fig tree in Kenya, which draws a romantic line to the moment in 1558 when Elizabeth I, seated next to an oak tree at Hatfield House, heard the death of her sister, Queen Mary, meant that she was the monarch, also at age twenty-five. Meanwhile, in the Crown, it shows that Elizabeth in asleep in the Sagana Lodge. Also, it shows that Prince Philip told her about her father's death during the walk they had down a path through the garden to the Sagana River, when in fact he told her while she was resting in her bedroom and then they had a walk.

The things Philip said to or about foreigners were sometimes a little thoughtless, but not to be considered racist. He grew up in another time and many things he said were not insulting, just thoughtless in the times his wit got away from him. The timeline at the start with the montage of home videos was not meant to be taken as all within the first year of marriage. Of course this is a drama and got most things right so there's no point really in making a video about the things they got wrong, or we could very well poke holes in every 'true story' film or telly show.
reply

Each of those things represent something bigger.
Philip being uncomfortable with kneeling was part of the bigger picture that he's low ranking and taking orders from the help in his own home.
As for the pregnancy timeline: it was only showing clips of their home videos from the year, which it would fit into.
The writers would have taken artistic licence on at least 95% of the script because nobody knows every word that was said in real life.

It's likely Phillip gave her guff about kneeling. He was not exactly the best husband. He ran around on her continuously. He was probably very jealous of Elizabeth still having her Throne while his was stolen and married her thinking he would get a throne back. He was also a man of his time and royalty so treating your wife well and being faithful would not even of been thought of. A woman in those days was to obey her husband no exceptions.

There is no record of this exchange actually taking place. How did they get it wrong then? If you have no proof that he didn't do it, than you can't say they got it wrong. Whether they found information you didn't or they just made it up, doesn't make them wrong. I swear watching Mojo is like listening to a grade 4 book report. I just hope there is actually some good information in the videos I do click on.

Prince Philip is NOTORIOUS for making cruel and idiotic comments that show how arrogant and privileged he is. On a trip to a British school in China, he remarked in his speech, We need to get you home soon before you all go slitty eyed. At a school for the deaf, they played God Save The Queen over very large speakers. He looked at one of them and said, No wonder you're all bloody deaf!

and yet watch mojo is american so maybe som english direction from a view point
its like me commenting on the american civil war. not saying there wrong just that opions are always allowed and no degree are always wrong just that i have grand parents who lived it and who can coment on real life events. the grate fog there was panic as people were suffering and dieing

I'm Kenyan, you cannot believe how happy I was when they showed they Kenyan scenes. Chief Waruhiu Itote was a real person, and the same goes to the rest of the chiefs. And the reason there was a leader from every tribe is before colonization, Africans lived as different ethnic communities rather than as a country. Plus the Swahili was authentic.

In season 2 the timing is messed up. Dear Mrs Kennedy ends in Nov 1963. Edward was born in March 1964. So by the end of DMK Elizabeth would be noticeably pregnant. Instead they just have her find out at the beginning of the last episode, after theres been an intervening episode about Charles school problems and Phillips family problems

There is talk that the show did not get the details of the Margaret v Elizabeth contest correct with regard to Margaret's intended marriage to Group Captain Townsend. Could Margaret actually have married Group Captain Townsend, and been allowed to keep her title, stipend and stay in the country? If so, why didn't she?

It's not so much that the series got it wrong but that for the sake of pace and to condense events in time to keep the plot moving, screen writers often have to change things around to make for better clarity, and even introduce elements that never happened to make for better drama or illustrate a point of character.
reply

Another discrepancy is when Elizabeth got off the plane from Kenya for her father's death in a black dress. The truth on this matter is that she didn't pack any black clothing and after that incident the Queen made it a rule for everyone to pack at least one black outfit in case they have to attend a funeral.
reply

Enjoyed Season 1 but I thought it utter nonsense that Princess Margaret could walk in on the embalming of her dead father, the king. The idea that funeral directors would permit any family member to just witness that is truly unbelievable. Of course they'd lock the door during such an ugly procedure.
reply

I think they know about dramatic license, but they were just making a comparison. I like history, so when I was watching the series I kept on wondering how much of it actually happened and how much was made for good television. I guess they made this video for people like me.
reply

Since not much is known about what really went on behind close doors, of course some of this is just for TV or character building, but if these are the only facts wrong then I would say the show is pretty accurate overall. Down to the actual gowns worn by the Queen

I freaking love the Crown. Its my favorite series since Friends lol. I went to England and Scotland on vacation in December because of the Crown and Outlander! Fabulous architecture, beautiful scenery and rich history. Not a foodie paradise however.
reply

I have this feeling that the creators of this show really tried to show the queen as a modest, religious and kind person. Although I don't know much about her, I know the fact that she doesn't represent many things that the show tried to display.
reply

When you see King George and Elizabeth enter Westminster Abbey for her wedding to Philip. You can see a Yeoman guard wearing a uniform with the E R letters for Elizabeth Regina. They should have been G R for George Regina as he was the King.
reply

They have said on multiple interviews that not all or most of plots in the series are depictions of what could have happened. Technically, not wrong; but an assumption of what could have happened behind the curtains.
reply

There should be something like this for The Queen (2006! It's what started the myth that Philip called the Queen cabbage. He may have called her sausage but never cabbage! I just get so angry when anybody says that.
reply

It wouldn't surprise me IF a 50s husband didn't want to kneel before his wife (it's very out of place given the era) but you make a good point about his knowledge and general acceptance of royal protocol.
reply

This is entertainment. Get over yourself. Unless you're Ken Burns you're not selling documentary but entertainment4 baqsed on historical figures. The story is good, even historically off.
reply

Great series. if you watch the actual film of the coronation, Philip does not hesitate to kneel, so I'm glad this was not a real issue. makes him more of a man because of that, IMO
reply

I think they are 4 months married when Elizabeth found out she is pregnant with her firstborn, Prince Charles. So I still think this is right that it is twelve months later
reply

The tragic result of this silly messing around with fact is that it's the crap that is remembered as 'fact' by people who are unaware they are not being given the truth.
reply

Just to nitpick a little With regards to Phillip refusing to kneel before Elizabeth
There are no records of any such conflict
Well, there wouldnt be, would there?

reply

I totally agree, theres no way Philip would of argued with Elizabeth about paying homage at the coronation.
Philip respects the Monarchy & what it represents.

reply

You missed an obvious one, the queen did not have her bouquet in her group wedding photos from the day as it was lost. The photos with her bouquet were staged later.
