hihi! Amateur fashion historian here, although my interests typically lean towards early to mid 18th century, here's a few debunked myths:
belladonna was known to be dangerous for your eyes, and not many women used it
Lead based makeup was much the same. the vast majority of people knew that venetian white makeup with lead was deadly. a couple people wore it, but they were usually poorer and buying cheap snakeoil substitutes.
Waist trainers and corsets are much more comfortable than people thought. they were basically akin to what we consider bra's to be. tightlacing was not really practiced and stems from fashion plates and satirical artists painting women as vain. most photographs you see of women with insane wasp waists are optical illusions, whether or not the photos have been slightly altered (which was possible even in the early days of photography) or they're over compensating by wearing increased bustles and padding to create the illusion of a tiny waist.

Ultimately, corsets/waist trainers are about deforming your body in order to fit into a beauty standard set by society and that's sick. A lot of people are defending them in the comments and they're really missing a very big point here. The idea--regardless of what you call it--is to actually change your body in order to maintain that shape. In a better world, our daughters, sisters, wives, mothers, and women will be confident enough to know they don't need to crush their bodies, even if they do that slowly in order to be attractive or feel good. Normal bodies shapes--as in, not crafted or artificially created--will be the thing to be proud of.

I am going to fight your corset part.
Corsertry is NOT dangerous. TIGHTLACING is dangerous.
People back in the days when corsets were worn daily, never tightlaced. Corsets were in fact made for your body so it is comfortable to wear and work in. The only reason why thightlacing is so famous is because it was so rare! So people wrote about it more then normal corsetry.
Waists looked tiny because the paintings were overdoing the small waists, and women often wore bum pads so the skirts would flare out, making the waists look smaller.
Corsets and corsetry is not dangerous if you know how to properly work with it.

It makes me sad when people cant see their own beauty. My personal opinion is that the things that makes each person unique tend to be their most beautiful feature, sometimes its even a feature about themselves that they dislike. Who wants to look exactly like a cookie cutter version of everyone else? If we can learn to embrace our own differences individually, and embrace and appreciate each others differences as a society, maybe we will start getting somewhere in terms of overcoming hate.

when my grandma was a young woman, back in the 1920s. ,she wanted to louse some weight & saw an advert in a newspaper for some slimming pills, called sylph, & decided to try them. they where in the form of capsules &, out of curiosity, she decided to split one in half, to see what was inside. she was horrified to see a fat, little grub, wriggle out, obviusly some sort of intestinal parasite. needless to say, she threw them away & decided that maybe being a bit chubby wasen't so bad, after all!

CORSETS WERE NOT DEADLY! Only some rich women would tight lace, but when you got a corset that is made for you and is comfortable (like everyone did) then it is fine. A bunch of people have done research on this so don't spread false information. Women wore them for centuries, and if they were soooo deadly, then why did they keep wearing them? They would have stopped if it was deadly. Pictures were also often edited by colouring over the waist to make it smaller and more ideal.

5, I'll NEVER give these up. IDC. There are ways to safely wear these, & it depends how often 1 does so. I also don't squeeze the frig out of my mid section! 4, probably too much $ for me, not have I heard of it. 3, hate them. Tried it 2x & found them boring, dumb, & pointless. 2, I search L & R for talc free powder. I won't buy any baby powder for mo even if it's in there. 1, been lucky to never been put on that Rx or anywhere near them.

Corsets arent deadly. All those myths were created by men and Hollywood. A well made corset that fits correctly is like a hug. Tight lacing is a fetish and not part of traditional corset wearing which was done to support the bust and keep the weight of the skirt off the hips. Our ancestors werent idiots, the corset wouldnt have been worn for 300+ years if they werent useful.

Honorable mentions:
Not heard of it, & it's probably way too expensive anyway. Plus, to hell w radioactive (over) exposure!
I've tried them for a while & developed an intolerance in a lil over a yr. I quit using them since, permanently.
I luckily didn't nor have to worry about those products as my hair needs pH balance AWAY from oiliness.

You don't have to physically change the way you look through operations. You can accentuate your natural beauty with a great hairstyle and minimal make up. For your body with clothing, wear clothing that accentuates the parts that you find most attractive about yourself, don't let any brand tell you that you can't rock their clothes.

I forgot what it is but in Germany existed a pill around the 60s where pregnant woman had a very high chance to get handicaped children later on and I heard 90% of all woman who used to be pregnang and took that pill got handicaped children, some woman even passed away while giving birth. That's horrible

My father died of melanoma in 1980. I spent much of my high school years railing against the use of tanning beds and tanning in general. Now, many of my peers from high school are dealing with skin cancer and pre-cancerous lesions from all that tanning, and saying that no one warned them. Yeah, not so much.

I believe Marilyn Monroe was killed because she was butting heads against the wrong people, rather than an accidental overdose. Actually there are people in power still killing playmates and other such girls to this day to keep them quiet and they can get away with it because nobody cares about these girls.

women expose their eyes, skin, mouth to all kinds of chemicals, they wear high heels that can cause bunions, ankle and leg injuries and skeletal deformation not to mention being prone to falls. they apply nail polishes and false nails to their nails which can cause damage to their fingers.

Lead was used in ancient Egypt to produce the strong lines around the eyes, it was still used (to a lesser degree) in the 70's. There was a white powder that was toxic, I forget what it was called but it was a cleaning product, rat poison was also used.

10, can't afford it anyway. 9, hell no! I don't go anywhere near that. 8, don't know where to get it, nor do I care. 7, this is something I'll need to look out for. 6, never even heard of it. Probably can't afford it either.

I wear corsets to help with chronic pain in my back and hips. My insides are completely fine. They've gone through worse while I was pregnant with my first child and are about to go through it again with my 2nd soon.

Its best to keep things simple. Dont over do things. Use Dove without perfume for your downstairs. As long as you smell clean thats all that maters. And be happy with your skin colour all of them are beautiful.

I worked as a skincare consultant at Sephora for some years and the amount of black women that came in asking for skin bleaching products was really upsetting. Sephora carries no such products btw.
reply

Damn, I'm glad that I don't use any of these products cause I grew up not giving a crap about what people think about me and I still don't care. I'm teaching my kids the same thing

The lady talking in this video needs to watch what she says. She said white is associated with wealth and status (some people could take offence to that and pin it to rascism)
reply

This is why its just best to be simple. Im not good at make-up, i dont use tampons, and I dont really care about my skinas long as its clean through my showers, I am good.
reply

Corsets rarely do any major damage.
They can cause pain at first while the fat and muscle shift away from the pressure caused by the corset but it rarwly causes any harm

reply

That question in the end makes me confusion. How am I supposed to not agree? I cant just go like hmmm no, I dont agree that radioactive skin-stuff is dangerous
reply

Personally I like the corset look its cool I just wish that we could get more access to corset like clothes without the whole squeezing your guts out stuff

Baby powder isn't technically market towards woman. It is marketed people with babies to take care of which just happens to be mostly woman
reply

The facial products were from the Philippines. They still produce it here, I could name them but is it really harmful to this date?
reply

Weird, am allergic to Johnson's baby powder. I asked my mum and she said even when I was a baby, she couldn't use it on me at all
reply

Love the skin your in! Leave the corset to the Kardashian! And celebrate being a woman! We come in all shapes and sizes!
reply

The Johnson and Johnson baby powder isn't really the company's fault. You shouldn't really use it down there.
