SNL is a comedy, but it can also tackle serious issues. For this list, well be looking at SNL skits and other segments that deal with any kind of real-world topics. Our countdown includes the pandemic, the police, climate change, and more! Which serious issue do YOU think SNL handled the best?

Sometimes the best sketches make you laugh and think.
Definitely Welcome to Hell by the women and Saoirse Ronan is one of the best
Or the Come Back Barack music video by Kenan, Chris, and Chance the Rapper. (Also the Thanksgiving at Wayne Manor sketch with Chance is subversively funny as well)
After Lorne asks if they can be funny, you can see him smiling through tears.

My favorite was Welcome to Hell with Saoirse Ronan tackling the Me Too movement. While satirical, it made so many true points about what women have to go through and worry about. I remember it going viral and so many women I know sharing it. It definitely achieved its message.

Though I hate it when comedy shows and late night shows got serious because I like watch these shows to get away from the negative. But sometimes we need a moment of seriousness to get the point out there becomes more aware of how dire the situation is.

Seeing the thumbnails kinda funny with what I saw during my childhood. Mommy, whys the clown from The Big Comfy Couch talking about abortion? Its still odd how I still remember it despite only seeing the show referenced a couple of times as a kid.

SNL people get very upset when you call what they do Skits. Skits are what the football players do when they put on the cheerleaders' uniforms or what children do at camp. These are professional comedy writers and performers. They do sketches.
reply

SNL are bunch of circus freaks, comparing to letting the birth of a baby to slavery is disgusting! Also Im glad the 9/11 sketch is number one, Rudy told us Americans to stay strong and come together!
reply

Their sketch He Who Weeps- satirizing the trauma of a mastectomy from the male partners pov- made further poignant in retrospect due to Gilda Radner getting ovarian cancer soon after.
reply

Most of these werent very funny or very critical. HATE crimes are up for many other groups besides Asians. #1 WAS well handled plus Rudy delivered his line in a funny way
reply

you lost me with the 2016 election which was a serious TDS is on a whole other level that's why SNL ratings have down and whatmojo are woke idiots just like the Elites
reply

OMG its insane that in 2017 the writers KNEW an office romance between a boss and an employee was WRONG. What happened to those writers two months ago huh?

The gal in the thumbnail looks a lot like the actress that plays Molly from the Canadian childrens television show The Big Comfy Couch.

the only thing i can think of is the old 90s tv show Big Comfy Couch so seeing it have a sus topic really is messing with my mind

Did you really take Cecily Strong's Weekend Update piece and minimize it to an, Oh, by the way, for another entry? Really? Shame on you.
reply

11: 50 wow, looks like Bowen is really saying something important. Sure would be nice if we could hear it instead of narration.
reply

Most of these were fairly recent events.
I think the skit about HIV with Madonna from the late 80s should be on the list

reply

The Welcome To Hell music number that included guest Saoirse Ronan would probably be considered an honorable mention.
reply

Looking at Guilliani after 911, you wouldn't have guessed he would become the delusional gas bag he is now.
reply

SNL has turned into pre-Elon Twitter. Full of Not funny leftist hate speech
Coexist hell more like Comply

reply

Why can't they just play the clips? I don't need a play-by-play of what made each sketch serious/funny.
reply

I don't look to comedy to teach me a lesson. That's probably why I haven't watched SNL since the 90's.
