We can't imagine their careers without these roles, but these actors have some regrets. For this list, well be looking at performers across film and television that are primarily known for playing certain characters theyd like to distance themselves from. Our countdown includes iCarly, Titanic, Star Wars, and more! Would YOU have accepted these iconic roles?

Listen up, all you aspiring actors out there. If you manage to get even five seconds of fame, you should just shut your trap and be grateful. There are thousands of wannabe stars out there, so don't get too big for your britches. I mean, who do you think you are? No actor should ever get more than one shot at fame. Period.
And don't even think about getting full of yourself and believing you're actually good. That's just delusional, my friend. Sure, there are some good actors out there, like Hanks and Damon, but should they really get to play multiple star roles? Absolutely not. There are plenty of talented actors out there, but getting a role isn't about your ability. It's all about being in the right place at the right time and fitting some director's whims.
Sometimes, a role can be won or lost based on how much coffee the director had that morning. So if you happen to get typecast, well, thank your lucky stars, because that's as good as it gets for you. The only reason you might get a second chance is because directors are lazy and prefer to pick a known personality instead of taking a chance on someone new.
So, let's all remember that there's no room for ego in the world of acting, and we should all just be grateful for any tiny bit of fame we manage to scrape together. Thank you, and good luck out there!

People in the comments are just completely miserable and jealous because Jennette McCurdy has money. She wasn't making nearly as much as Ariana was when they were on the show Sam & Cat. How would that make you feel? Grow tf up. I probably would feel differently if she was a crappy person, but she isn't.
It doesn't matter if she has millions, too many people have severe childhood trauma, which leads to depression, eating disorders, addiction, other mental illnesses and sometimes even suicide. It goes to show you that money will never make you happy. Sure, being set for life would be way less stressful, and I'm sure it can give you temporary happiness, but nothing lasts forever and being pushed into something you don't want to do at a young age by your own mother is disgusting.
She never wanted to be famous, she only did it because her mother pushed her so hard into doing it.
Put yourself in her shoes.
Read her book or watch a documentary about just how bad it was for her.

I realize why Jennette was acting. Because of her late controlling abusive mother. She always wanted to be a author and now she is! I had no idea other people never wanted the roles in the first place. What about some others that mightve wished they never got their iconic roles.
Frankie Muniz - Malcolm in the Middle
Taylor Momsen - How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Mara Wilson - Matilda
Marques Houston - Sister, Sister
Kevin Bacon - Footloose
Suzanne Somers - Threes Company
John Amos - Good Times
Dont know if they did. But they couldve.

Marlon Brando didnt necessarily regretted the role of Stanley. He just hated the character. At some point he had been playing Stanley for year's. On Broadway and in the movie.
Brando enjoyed and respected working with Tennessee Williams. He was capable of understanding where Stanley was coming from and what motivated him, but he still hated the character.
Also, Stanley reminded him of his father, whom also was a violent drunk.

Poor Jennette McCurdy. I can imagine how the Nickelodeon environment felt like hell as well as Dan Schneiders lack of boundaries. The same can be said of Jennettes mother and how she poorly raised her. Candidly, shes better off as an author and I love her book, Im Glad My Mom Died. Acting is a hobby and not a requirement to please ones parents, which I find ridiculous and filling ones stomach with butterflies.

Shannen Doherty Beverly hills 90210 because her and Jeanie Garth had a major falling out/ fight it's was all over the news in the 90s they even had a special about Shannen Doherty behavior and they had no choice but to fire Shannen because she was known for starting trouble on sets and she regretted everything that happened with the show and behind the scenes drama

Bit of a stretch to include Zac Efron & Kate Winslet in a wish they never got the role list - Efron may be keen to put his teen heartthrob days behind him & Winslet may regret a few of her acting choices on the film but doesnt mean they regret the roles. In fact its quite the opposite - HSM & Titanic put them on the map & they know/appreciate that!
reply

If some of these actor had choice they could do voice acting. I would want to be voice acting because of these. One reason is also I would speak my diverse opinions on certain concepts like criminal minds how they portrayed some autistics especially on episode 2 parter to hell, and back there's some more I have a list.

I respect Jenette but she's selling it idc and I despise Arianna but Jenette problem with Grande in her own words was jealousy due to the fact tht the studio let Arianna pursue her music career but Sam couldn't take on other acting gigs which to me is fair, music has no conflict of interests
reply

Jennette McCurdy would be on this list, after everything she went through behind the scenes of Icarly quitting her acting career was the happiest moment of her life she may have formed life long friendships with her co-stars, but other than that she regrets ever being part of Icarly.
reply

I find it completely baffling and wrong they're known for iconic for those movies for a reason used to have a crush on zac when he was troy winslet just a doll doing an iconic movie and plummer a key part of the movie itself is fine with him without him not as iconic as the original
reply

For Kate Winslet, I red in an article that she said in a recent interview for Avatar 2 that she didnt actually really hate her performance as Rose in Titanic. She just hate watching herself on screen. So Titanic probably isnt the only movie where shes in that she doesnt watch.
reply

Jennette McCurdy's acting career should be exhibit A of why an extra level should be involved when casting child actors. Hopefully weeding out stage moms and dads wanting to live vicariously through their children. And those who don't already have steady employment.

The Sound of Mucus was actually coined by famed New Yorker film critic Pauline Kael. She was reviewing films at McCall's when the movie came out and was fired for giving the much-loved movie such a bad review (which included her take on the title.
reply

Hey actors: actresses, if you want to be successful and remain in the business, you must do like the rest of us and work bad jobs to get through your career.
You brats need to have Kate Winslets outlook about infamous roles and deal with it.

reply

I love Kate but she's right on her assessment from the TItanic portrayal, as in the accent issue. She sounded no different than her usual self. That being said, I'll chalk it up to being a foible for an otherwise paramount thespian.
reply

Christopher Plummer is now my idol! This is the first time I've ever heard that he called the movie The Sound of Mucus! I have used that title for over 40 years, myself! He and I have nearly identical takes on the stage show/movie.
reply

Zac Efron hated Troy Bolton he took shots at that character in SNL and in interviews plus he never does high school musical reunions because he dated Vanessa Hudgens for a long time and probably doesn't wanna see or speak to her
reply

iCarly is such an iconic Nick show, but Jeannette's story behind the scenes on why she never wanted to take the role because of how her stage mom forced her to be the star reminds me of Sarah Lynn's backstory in _Bojack Horseman. _
reply

Unless you were a underage and forced to play a character by your parents or guardians like Jeanette why accept the role if you hate it. Am I wrong?
Please correct me if I am wrong I don't mean to offend anyone.

reply

I remember hearing Kel Mitchell say that it took him a while to get used to the fame when he did All That and Kenan and Kel. I also remember hearing Will Smith say that he can't watch Fresh Prince reruns anymore
reply

Christopher Plummer was THE best villain for me in Star Trek Movies. Ricardo Montalban is for many the utmost villain as Khan but Plummer as general Chang. And his Shakespeare quotes! Heaven.
reply

I'm so proud of Jennette for walking away, overcoming and surviving so much negativity and turning into something special with her book and podcast. I'm so sorry she experienced all of that.
reply

Harrison Ford hates both Han Solo & Indiana Jones as well. Simply cause both characters weren't interesting to him. He's doing Dial Of Destiny now cuz he wants the franchise to end already.
reply

I think that Clark Gable didn't want to be in Gone With The Wind but he accepted the role of Rhett Butler because he needed the money. He was paying out a lot of money to his ex-wives.
reply

Twilight was so bad it took me 3 times to watch the first movie cause it was so boring and the second movie I gave up after 20 minutes for the same reason it was just boring
reply

Zac Efron did a much more recent interview where he actually says extremely positive things about the HSM franchise. And how he wouldnt decline doing another if he was asked
reply

Although I miss tf out of Sam & love the new dynamic of the ICarly reboot, I stand w/ Jeanette & am so happy she's moving on & doing what SHE wants to finally.
reply

Its horrific whats Jeannettes mother put her through. Even though I miss seeing her on iCarly, Im happy knowing shes living the life she deserves
reply

But (with the exception of Jeanette McCurdy) they all took the money, I've never heard of any of them, for example, refusing the residual checks.
