26: 44 # 1 - The scene with Radar's delivery of the sad news was so genuine because the cast did NOT know it was coming. They had Gary enter, - in character, everyone being natural - then he read the telegram. To a person, the entire cast in shot froze up then, slowly began the awful process that hits throughout life of, I feel life $#! + but I have responsibilities to perform right now and no matter how GD robotic I feel, I will carry out those duties mixed with (I've NO doubt) the actual actors thinking, What? What am I supposed to do, and concluding the response of their character - freezing for a moment then going back to the ugly war reality of meatball surgery was the what they should do.

8 simple rules is definitely one of the most mind blowing and hard hitting sitcom turns ever. I really respect the production team and actors for not shying away from ritters death. Or god forbid just cancelling the show. They showed that a family has to move on even if they dont forget what they are leaving behind. I was only 8 or so when it aired. But that story and how it was handled really helped me understand things when most of my grandparents generation of my family passed over the next couple years.

I grew up watching Saved by the Bell and 8 Simple Rules. Those episodes got me. I remember sitting on the sofa with my mom crying as we watched the 8SR episode. Well done. I'm sad it's not higher up on the list. Also, the Fresh Prince episode about his dad gets me every time. I remember Carlton's turmoil over Will getting shot as well.
Also, I know it's not a comedy show, but I feel like Buffy's The Body episode had the same level of impact. That one rocked me too.

WKRP in Cincinnati - In Concert In terms of shocking character arc, there is little of the surface. However the way it handled a very recent tragedy at a Who concert just months earlier was excellent. The fact it even wasa broadcast based upon a real situation so fresh in the minds of its many viewers made it shocking and important.

19: 00 And yet, keeping secrets from parents is now not only a virtue, but a legal battle. There are schools and teachers literally demanding to keep secrets about children from their parents, including what they're teaching those kids. And people act like it's out of line to regard such tactics as predatory and gr00ming.

All in the Family could have its own list. It reverberates now-especially the Beverly episode. Beverly was a drag queen who was murdered. Considering the hatred currently for trans people and drag queens, especially with American conservatives, it's something that could happen now.

Ive watched a bunch of junk tv over the years but two lines that always hit me hard and have stuck with me have always been Will Smiths How come he dont want me man? And Jason Segals Im not ready for this. So raw and full of emotion that I never really expected outta a sitcom.

I remember being a kid watching Punky Brewster. I cry at just the thought of Punky yelling at Brandon to wake up after he's been hit by a car. Or Cherry getting stuck in a fridge and Punky and Margot save her life using CPR that they had just learned in school.

Child abuse is the most shocking. Miscarriages, deaths - these things are a part of life. They're not potential criminal acts that involve the exploitation of innocent children. Also, by Maude's Pregnancy, you really mean abortion. Quit trying to sugar-coat it.

Let's ignore the fact that blacks commit 60% of violent crimes in the USA while only making up 14% of the population. I'm sure only a very very slight percentage of that is made up by black women, so profiling in certain neighborhoods is definitely not racist.

As awful as it was that Gloria had a miscarriage on All in the Family, I truly believe that episode should've been in honorable mentions instead of the episode where Edith almost was a victim of SA. Watching Edith go through that was horrific.

I love the HIMYM when Marshall's father passes away. They never told Jason Segel what happened, and wanted to get a real reaction. I also loveee Rita's death from Dexter. Although I hate it, but her funeral of Dexter's beautiful eulogy is amazing.

A good few of these are topics I've experienced in life and watching them be depicted can be heartbreaking yet oddly reassuring to help people understand, they aren't the only one whose gone through certain struggles.

Marshall's father's death hit because it was so jarring the whole episode is pretty lighthearted and then in the final minutes of the episode it hits from out of nowhere like a Mac truck in dense fog

There was another Fresh Prince of Bel Air episode that I thought deserved mention. When Carlton overdosed because of Will's pills. James Avery was one of a kind. So was Will Smith's for that matter.

Not sure if it fits in this category or not, But Mom in Buffy The Vampire Slayer was. harsh. Tore you up in every way you can think of. To me, Buffy was basically a comedy, so it got serious. it struck.

Another AT LEAST honorable mention should've included the family matters episode where Eddie gets pulled over for being black, the Carl confronts the cops that pulled him over. THAT was HEAVY.

It says a lot about a country's problems that they have to have serious messages in their comedy shows to get them to pay attention to them. All of these shows are American.

Ben dying in Scrubs and Will's dad leaving in Fresh Prince are my top 2. Also I know it's not a sitcom, but the TV death that always gets me the most is Buffy's mom dying.

MASH is still the greatest tv show ever made.
I didn't discover it until I was deployed in Iraq, and to this day I can't believe how perfect and amazing it was.

17: 28 It's hard to feel bad for the character in this episode if you know people who have worked hard and followed the law in order to be citizens of the US.

ugh very special episodes seemed like a bandwagon all sitcom producers felt they had to jump on for relevance, instead of just trying to be entertaining.

If BLM - an organization that is corrupt, predatory and built on lie after lie - is your touchstone, you're adrift, both intellectually and morally.
