Good list. Thanks for including Fame on this list bc some people overlook it as a musical film and bc earlier in the 80s. I would not classify Dirty Dancing as a teen movie but more of a young adult portrait. Karate Kid deserves in the top 12 and really is in my top memorable coming of age movies. In retrospect, of course, these are for the most white teen movies. There's very little diversity and when there is like in Long Duck Dong, it's offensive. Good thing Spike Lee and others came. along and that TV portrayed Black teens (A Different World, Fresh Prince etc) i n the late 80s and early 90s.

Can't Buy Me Love is actually such a good and underrated movie. I watched many of the other movies on this list such as Pretty In Pink, The Outsiders, Heathers, Dirty Dancing, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club, and Back To The Future, but it probably the most underrated on the list. It has such a great message and I love the love story and how Ronnie literally paid to get with Cindi although it kinda backfired a little bit. Heathers is also underrated but it got a whole musical. But the movie is much better than the musical.

Are you freakin' kidding me! 'The Karate Kid' only gets an honourable mention! Your beloved Molly Ringwald despises ALL of the John Hughes movies she was in, so you can remove them and put 'The Karate Kid' in its place. Geez, Im surprised that you didnt include 'Endless Love' or 'Blue Lagoon'.
reply

Fast times at Ridgemont high. Did everyone know that this movie made more stars than anyther movie in that this was their first movie. Did you notice Brad's friend with him in the gym. Nicols Cage. He uses his real name in the credits. Also it was the top selling movie ever without a plot.

The outsiders with Patrick Swayze the outsiders who Patrick Swayze Tom Howe Patrick Swayze Tom Cruise and Daniel larusso's character Daniel larusso starred in that film Patrick Swayze the outsiders St Elmo's Fire Golden Age of the 80s films that golden age of the 80s National History

I saw every single one of these and loved all but one. I was sad to see The Karate Kid only in Hon. Mentions, and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure left off completely, especially since the VERY wrongly advertised Last Amerucan Virgin was so high on the list.

Is a great film the Ventures in Vegas City now is it good film as well with the one the one who starred in The Karate Daniel larusso she starred in The Karate Kid lovely lady she was a brilliant she starred in Back to the Future also Elisabeth Shue

Off the top of my head you forgot Foxes, Less Then Zero, Night of the Comet, The Chocolate War, Class, Heaven Help Us, and four films that have a definite youthful, but older adult vibe: Cocoon, Streets of Fire, The Bikini Shop and Miracle Mile.
reply

Also honorable mention to Valley Girl which features birthday girl (Sept 11) EG Daily who is even more beautiful today and The Journey of Natty Gann which features an outstanding lead performance by then 14 year old Meredith Salenger.

I'm disappointed that a rapy, racist movie like Sixteen Candles is listed here.
Jake the dreamboat who hands over his drunk, unconscious girlfriend to the Geek saying she's so drunk, she wont know the difference

1. The Breakfast Club. 2. Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Full Stop! The rest is up for preference debate.
(John Bender of The Breakfast Club said, Eat my shorts years before Bart Simpson)

Some of my other favorite 80's movies were Just One of the Guys, Mannequin, Summer School, Heavenly Kid, License To Drive, Tuff Turf, Spaceballs, Police Academy movies just to name a few.
reply

Im gonna have to watch some of these as an adult cuz I never saw them as a teenager. However if I were to pick my favorite teenage movie from the 1980s it would be License To Drive.
reply

Sorry, but I would say killing your classmates is so much more relatable than any other film on this list. Seriously though, Heathers and The Lost Boys deserve higher placement.
reply

The 80s were a great time for these movies. Agree John Hughes rules the 80s! Another great teen movie is All the Right Moves (1983) Tom Cruise, Lea Thompson and Craig T Nelson.
reply

80s teen movies had two themes: they were set in the 1950s and teens were horny and looking to get laid or they were set in the 1980s and teens were prudes looking for true love.
reply

Some Kind of Wonderful deserves a higher placing on this list and it's quite an underrated movie (especially in the John Hughes canon. It may even be better than Pretty In Pink.
reply

Last American Virgin should have been number 1 based on story alone. This whole list was a blow job to John Hughes and every conformist Eighties film ever made. #lameaf
reply

Many of these were Rated R and I was too young to see many of them. One film I did like was License To Drive with Corey Haim and Corey Feldman. I also liked Sixteen Candles.
reply

You missed St. Elmo's Fire which was also an excellent movie on the 80s with a huge cast and a lot to say about the time for those of us coming of age in that period.
reply

Where's the SECRET ADMIRER & ST. ELMOS FIRE? they're both in1985 movies. with bunch of good actors and great stories. it's sad to say that they're not included.
reply

Kinda hard to comment on the quality of your list when you clearly dont understand what a Teen Movie is. At least 4 and probably 5 of these do not even qualify.
reply

The breakafast club is such a great movie that some of my favs tv series have an entire episode with a cameo (E. R and Dawson's creek)
