To quote a wise man whose father was killed and warned the killer to prepare to die: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. A nostalgic cartoon character would be someone who would get nostalgic, not someone you and I would get nostalgic for. No one on this list really fits that description. A lot of people these days confuse that word with classic or historic especially when it comes to using it to describe old movies/TV shows/music/etc. If a movie was nostalgic, it would be SET in the past, not MADE in the past. And that brings me to the definition of the past in the minds of some people, especially older adults and some younger ones. Once I heard an old man on a bus talk about something that happened 26 years ago, and I chimed in that I was a child back then, but he came back at me and said, I'm sure this happened longer ago than that, partner. That confirmed what I had long suspected: today literally means this century in the eyes of these so-called nostalgia buffs. This has led this commenter to conclude that, since nostalgia is, in fact, an emotion, those who take pride in experiencing it and expressing it have emotional definitions of words/phrases rather than logical ones.

Did anyone else ever kinda wish that Charlie would kick Lucy instead for always being a jerk, and not just about the football? He'd have gotten in huge trouble due to the times, but it would have served her right.
Also, surprised that Mickey Mouse didn't manage even an honorable mention.

To be honest, I feel a bit angered that Mickey Mouse is not included on the list, yes Disney has its fair share of flaws but it really doesnt mean hes less likable as of now and yet I still love him, even more so than the other iconic cartoon characters, cmon now, really?

Scooby Doo, Shaggy Rogers, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Tom and Jerry, Fred Flintstone, Bugs Bunny Rugrats and many more are Nostalgic cartoons of my childhood growing up and I can't LIVE without them. I could but then life would be a bit boring. Hip Hip Hooray for cartoons!

I was expecting Mickey Mouse to be number one. I'm more of a Daffy fan, but I understand Bugs. Also, a bit surprised not to see the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, especially after seeing He-Man on there. I never would have guess Pooh as number one.

Garfield, Tom and Jerry, and Scooby and Shaggy being so low should be a crime. Pooh and the gang, Scooby and the gang, the loony tunes gang, Garfield and his friends, and of Course Tom Jerry and the whole gang are childhood icons.

As a young little boy, SpongeBob was my favorite growing up. Others like Scooby doo, tom and jerry and many more. I was inspired to become a cartoonist/animator. These characters are timeless.
