Yeeeesss! This is the music I grew up in my high school years. I would sing them over and over and help me forget my school troubles in my bedroom as I sing them to myself while doing my homework. My faves from this list include Aquas Barbie Girl, Christinas Genie in a Bottle, Brandy and Monicas The Boy is Mine, Backstreet Boys I Want It That Way, The Spice Girls Wannabe, Toni Braxtons Unbreak My heart, Celine Dions My Heart Will Go On, Britneys Baby One More Time and Whitneys I Will Always Love You. Because of these songs, I got to know these artists and their music thereafter. And now as an adult in her late 30s, I will listen to these songs and still belt them out like Im a teen again with fond nostalgia.
reply

How do you guys forgot One Sweet Day with Mariah Carey and Boyz 2 men! I can't believe this man
It was the longest running number one hit o fthe 90's for 16 weeks
And where's Michael Jackson in this list?
End of The Road as an honorable mention is an insult, come on guys
Always Be My Baby is an amazing song, but i'll put Underneath The Star as a song who has a great vocal habilities and also one of her best song lyrics.
And last but not leats, mmbop also as a honorable mention was too much for me

There are a lot of real good ones here. My favorite song is You Oughta Know, followed closely by You Can't Touch This. My favorite video is Genie in a Bottle because Christina's stunningly gorgeous, I still watch it today. You mentioned that Waiting for Tonght, Mambo No. 5 and I Will Always Love You were based on older works, but you could have also mentioned that the title The Boy is Mine was inspired by a Paul McCartney/Michael Jaclson duet from the 1982 called The Girl is Mine.

I was surprised in the lagged songs they kicked for some of the list. I felt Mariah Carey's One Sweet Day & Michael Jackson's Black Or White should've been listed here. Still, viva la Whitney Houston for having the greatest song from the 90's with I Will Always Love You. I couldn't agree with that choice anymore. It truly is a extraordinary work of art!
reply

The list is sorely missing Michael Jackson. How come there was no space for a masterpiece like They don't care about us? Also Mariah Carey may belong on the list, but definitely not with the song mentioned. I would swap that for MJ. On another note I think Britney is way to high on this list.

In addition to each and every one of the entires on this list being painfully overrated, the accompanying commentary makes it seem like whoever wrote the script for this video thinks everyone enjoys bland and uninspired drek full of cliche jokes and neuron-killing one liners.
reply

End of the Road by Boyz II Men only being an honorable mention is insane to me. It definitely belongs on the list and near the top of it, as it was a #1 hit in 1992 for a then record 13 weeks. (A record broken by Whitney in 1994, I think you can guess what the song was.
reply

I played The Sign so many times when I was a kid that even far into my 30s my mother hated it & could still identify it with just a few opening notes. following up I also played Don't Turn Around so much she couldn't handle listen to that one either even decades later
reply

I love how many of these songs came out in 1999 alone. Even Baby One More Time, which was released in late 1998, didn't blow up until early 1999.
1995 was also a year for iconic songs!
And the #1 spot is certainly deserved. I figured that was it. :)

After hearing about how much Stephen king loved the song mumbo number 5 to the point his wife wanted to get a divorce. It puts a new spin on the sing! I guess he listened to the song all the time and every type of remix of the song.
reply

Wheres Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Green Day, Nirvana, NSync, OutKast? How was One Sweet Day not on the list? It held the record for the highest amount of weeks at #1 on the Billboard 100 until just a few years ago.
reply

Wait, where is 'Torn' by Natalie Imbruglia?
Not that it should be in top20, but it is for sure in top5 best pop songs from 90s!
And here is not even in honorable mentions, seriously?

reply

Great list! I definitely think Los del Rio's Macarena should have been on there, though as not only the song is iconic but the choreography is still danced at parties until today,
reply

I totally agree that Whitney's version of I Will Always Love You should be the #1 song of the 90's. There were many great songs of the era but hers was tops in my opinion
reply

Left out Janet Jackson, NSYNC, Nirvana, Tupac, Biggie, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Aaliyah or Boyz II Men! This list, while good, missed the mark.
reply

i'd go for:
1. stay (i missed you) - 1994
2. iris - 1998
3. one of us - 1995
4. one sweet day - 1995
4. basket case - 1994

reply

I hear either music recorded in the 1890s. The 1990s nusic have really not appeal to me longer. It gives me memories I not will have
reply

Once i saw backstreet boys on this list. i then realized this top 20 is a joke. Some i agree with, but man can't any more white?
reply

My Heart Will Go On
But where's Cher's Believe?
It's the 3rd biggest female song of the 90's after Whitney's and Celine's.

reply

As someone born in 2000, I actually think the 90s is the best decade for music. Every single song on this list still slaps in 2023
reply

I was too young to have actually heard You Can't Touch This when it first came out in 1990, but I understand it's appeal now!
reply

Freedom! '90 - George Michael
Black or White - Michael Jackson
Hunter - Bjork
Karma Police Radiohead
Song 2 Blur.

reply

I loved MMMBOP in the 90's but have you heard Hanson sing it lately? With their mature voices, it sounds aMMMazing
reply

I Want It That Way is my absolute favorite from this list. Its a top 3 favorite or mine and no. 1 karaoke song.
reply

The Sign is definitely full of meaning, especially when you know one of the guys who wrote it was a neo-nazi
reply

Some of these songs were part of my childhood, others I knew some years ago. Great songs! Hugs from Brazil.
reply

Since when unbreak my heart, I will always love you or my heart will go on are pop songs and not ballads?
reply

Please please please do a part 2 to this! This brought back so many happy memories from my childhood!
reply
