Charlie and the Chocolate factory's soundtrack isn't hard to follow imo. Danny Elfman brings his signature darker score which gives This Wonka more an air of mystery where the original film showed more a Whimsical and cheerful side. The songs in Willy Wonka are definitely memorable, 'Pure imagination' is Beautiful piece of music, but I like the Oompa Loompa tunes in the Charlie version a little bit more because One: they're funny and two: The utilization of different genres of music is refreshing instead of reusing the same tune.
Gene's Wonka will always be an icon, However I feel Depp's version gets too much disdain. He's awkward, introverted around these people when he hasn't had any contact with Anyone outside of the Oompa Loompas in years, his response is pretty understanding in my opinion.
I haven't seen 'Wonka' yet for a issue I have with the casting of Timonthy Chalamet as the titular character. He's probably good in his performance, I just never got onboard the fanbase he has.

Honestly this seems a bit unfair and biased. As someone pointed out in a earlier comment, you're comparing what's supposed a young and growing Willy Wonka, to two other more mature and experienced versions of the character. You can't just compare a candy shop to a factory it seems a bit unfair. While I agree Gene Wilder's sense of whimsy and imagination is perfect and Depp's version is just jaded and actually not my favorite, Chalamet's version is perfect for a Wonka whose just starting out and someone whose just following his dream. As for songs while I love and hold dear Wilder's version of Pure Imagination, I disagree that songs in Wonka are generic and similar. Each one is unique it's own way.

The new Wonka doesn't have the magic or the special charisma and whimsical personality that only Gene Wilder had. He brought the character to memorable life and was brilliant in doing so! Nothing can top Gene Wilder. Saw the new Wonka and why doesn't Timothee Chalmette have the beautiful blue eyes. It seems like they could have used contacts so that he was more believable but there was more missing than just that and the magic hat seemed strange that wasn't needed as a distraction from the magic that was missing from the entire movie. They've tried to remake this movie twice and neither have captured the essence and the charm that Gene Wilder portrayed perfectly! No, this one wasn't memorable and will not replace the perfection that Willy Wonks and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder that will forever hold a special place in my heart!

The Tim Burton movie does not need to respect the original movie's message of honesty because the Tim Burton movie has nothing to do with the 1971 movie, neither is that movie the source material.
It'a completely okay to like the 1971 Gene Wilder movie, but people need to stop pretending it's the source material, because it's the equivalent of expecting every future Spider-Man adaptation to be faithful to the Tom Holland movies.

I love all 3 Wonka-themed movies. Of the three, I think Johnny Depp was the weakest as Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Don t get me wrong, it was an odd decision to put Johnny Depp in the suit and I think it was a very controversial casting choice, but you could ve done a lot better with the character despite the goofy comedy humor.

I think is Gene Wilder, Johnny Depp, and Timothee Chalamet are all number 1. I Love them All because now they gave a younger Willy Wonka. Thank You Hollywood for taking the time to created a younger Willy Wonka! I give the 3 films of the Great Willy Wonka a number 1. They all Wonderful!

What most people get wrong is that Chalamet is based on Wilder's portrayal which was just based on making a movie out of it, whereas Depp's is exclusively based on the book and Burton's interpretation (to the point Burton avoided seeing the original movie before making his version.

Johnny Depp was alright as Wonka, but we could have done without the unnecessary backstory of his opposing dentist father. The original book and film didn't delve into Wonka's background, as the focus was on Charlie, and was arguably all the better for it.

There is one Willy Wonka and that is Gene Wilder. That Johnny Depp version was so painfully bad it ranks as one of the worst movies I ve ever seen. I will watch the new one but they will never recapture the magic of the 1971 movie.

Grew up with Depp's version. Read the book before i saw the movie, Johnny Depp's portrayal is kinda on point for how i imagined the character to be (did not know it was a remake at that time. Plus the young cast did not disappoint.

Gene Wilder will always be my favourite Wonka portrayal, and not merely because I grew with the 70's version longer. He really captured Wonka's whimsical spirit, and predictable nature, in that you were never sure what he would do next.

As a GenXer, I definitely say Wilder is the best Wonka. I didn't like Johnny Depp's version. He was creepy without the warmth. I haven't seen Timothee Chalamet's version but from the clips, it feels like he has the tone right.
