Many of these don't belong on the list because they were never promoted as being flat-out comedies when they were released. Most of these are dramadies with both serious and comedic elements. Movies like In Bruges and Little Miss Sunshine aren't meant to be laugh-out-loud but they do use large doses of comedy to balance out the heavier material. And I always knew that even before seeing these movies. I wonder why The Truman Show is even considered a comedy. When it first came out I remember it getting a lot of attention for being Jim Carrey's first serious role as opposed to his earlier roles.
I think Click is one of the few entries that truly fits the category. Everyone thought it would be typical Adam Sandler fare--lighthearted and silly--but instead we were given a rather depressing morality tale. It really bummed me out, mostly because it was the opposite of what I expected.
As for Marley and Me. of course we know how that story ends! Because the movie was based on the book, and that 's how the book ended. Everyone knew it and watched anyway. Except for me. And I never will because I know how it ends.

The Angriest Man in Brooklyn (2014. One of Robin Williams' last films!
He plays an angry, hostile man who finds out he's dying, and the nurse tells him he only has an hour and a half to live. Most of the movie is him running around trying to reconcile things with the various estranged family members he's hurt.
It is listed as a comedy, and there is a lot of dark-ish humor. But it's really sad too.
I bawled through practically the whole thing. Of course it didn't help that i watched it shortly after Robin Williams had passed away.

OOk, does anyone remember seeing a short film starring a very young Paul Dano where he gets locked in a locker room by some guys and then has a convo with a girl trapped in a locker in there, but then he opens it and finds out she's dead? Or am I just crazy? It probably came out around the same time as the movie L. I. E. that he was in because he seemed to be around the same age.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles gets me every time! I must've watched it at least 20 times. Even 30 years later it always makes me laugh hysterically, and then tear up at the end. Credit to the performances of John Candy and Steve Martin, and the writing/directing of John Hughes. A movie that was so unfairly overlooked at awards time.

Most of these movies are comedy-dramas so that's why they're depressing. And on a side note, Little Miss Sunshine is totally over rated, not that great of a movie and definitely shouldn't have won Alan Arkin the Best Supporting Actor Oscar despite how great he is (the whole category was rigged so he'd win that year.

I hope they don't include film bucket list on here. What makes that dramedy quite sad is that the two main characters of the film both have cancer and had to spend the rest of their lives with them until each of their deaths which did made the film more devastating.

Click really got to me it was a classic Adam Sandler Movie with a few laughs, but all the heavy drama spoke to me to hold the people in your life close to me. Some time after I called my dad and told him I love him

My experience with The Kid was the complete opposite. It was my first Chaplin movie ever and I was expecting it to be a total tearjerker. I was shocked at how funny it was.

'Click' was more frustrating than depressing.
The decent part only kicks in the second half and it's frustrating that Sandler couldn't do it for the film as a whole.

Despite all the hate Sandler gets for his movies, seriously though the scene were he revisits his father in Click and final goodbyes was just heartbreaking to me

Life Is Beautiful should have atleast been an Honorable mention. I've never laughed/cried so hard to a movie that didn't include a dog until this.

I've actually known The Truman Show was more depressing than funny, even underneath all that sitcom stuff, but I didn't know why at first

I wouldnt say that Lars and the real girl is a comedy. Its a movie that really takes on the topic of mental health illness.

If I was in the hospital and Patch Adams came in as the doctor (The Movie version that is) I would call the cops.

I never had the impression that 50/50 or Truman Show were comedies. From the beginning they felt like drama

Almost all the great comedy movies are depressing, and somewhat horrifying when you real look at them deeper

as Charlie Chaplin said it best Life is a tragedy when seen in close-up, but a comedy in long -shot.
