i know many don't know this empress because she is only popular in india. this empress was manikarnika or laxmi bai she was a queen of a small district jhansi in india during british rule. numerous movies are already made on her including the most successful being manikarnika: the queen of jhansi. at that time britishers were very ruthless they made all farmers grow one type of crop and also made them pay double the taxes and also made many women into prostitution and killed whoever went against them. she was once fighting with a tiger who was killing villagers. india is known for ayurveda the ancient medicine technology which used herbs and today also is there. she fainted the tiger using this ayurveda but didn't kill it so everyone were shocked by her kindness. at that time britishers wanted to take jhansi because that time emperor sadashiv rao didn't had a heir. and his mother ordered one of the ministers to find a queen who will give a child. the minister was passing by that scene where she was healing the tiger he was amazed by how ferocious and kind she was. he then asked her father the ruler of some small kingdom to give her daughter for marrying sadashiv rao. sadashiv rao was a very good king he was also kind but he has now turned weak because of his first wife's death. when manikarnika married sadashiv rao there was a custom of changing the name of the bride sadashiv gave her the name laxmi bai[ laxmi is also a name of an indian godess]. after she married she got to know that the brother of sadashiv wants the throne so he is mixed with britishers. she also saw how britishers were torturing jhansi people. she was also one of the only women who was well educated and knew martial arts. captain gordon once came to jhansi palace and told her to bow in front of him she strictly refused even though her mother in law told her to do it. so captain gordon hold personal grudges against her. she once was roaming in jhansi where she saw britishers trying to beat a women named jahalkari bai. she saved her and beat those britishers. so she became a godess for jhansi people. then she became pregnant everyone were happy except for sadashiv's brother who gave her poison and also did something to sadashiv that he became extremely ill. manikarnika still was alive and sadashiv knew he is going to die so he announced manikarnika as new queen to which his brother disagreed saying she is a woman so sadashiv told him to bow to her or else he will be killed. so he bowed her and left the palace.
then starts the story sadashiv died and manikarnika adopted a child but britishers that time india's officer had a rule of doctrine of lapse that means if you don't have a legal heir or women is queen then that empire will go to british rule. manikarnika's mother in law was a conservative she told her to go to kaashi meditate their live as a widow and leave the throne forever. she was badass she totally refused it and made her mother in law instead live in that small room in kaashi. she then sat on the throne and all the ministers who told against her she punished them and everyone feared her not because she was the queen but because she was a great warrior. many said she can finish an army by herself only. she was also a godess for jhansi people. then what happened lord gordon came into the palace and told her to bow in front of him and become a servant queen of british or leave the palace. she refused to bow but she actually made him bow in front of her. yes she was savage. she left the palace but people of jhansi were with her. she then by her army only once again took jhansi but this time she was the women on which everyone were watching because jhansi was last surviving empire now. she then announced war she along with her army killed all the british soldiers. so now britishers thought of something else they used sadashiv's brother and found a secret path to the fortress. jhalkari bai the one whom manikarnika saved became the greatest friend of her. she saw manikarnika needs to be alive to save jhansi so she disguished herself as manikarnika and when britishers came near her they were in a trap she used the bomb and destroyed the palace and sacrificed herself. biggest thing was she was pregnant at that time. manikarnika then went to her father's kingdom and made women warriors then went to gwalior and defeated that british puppet and she became the queen of gwalior then she once again won jhansi and she then started war against britishers. but britishers used all the indian puppet soldiers and british soldiers. she fought very ferociously. she cut down captain gordon into two pieces and also she was going to kill the british indian officer but sadashiv's brother stabbed her at the back. she still managed to kill that sadashiv's brother and she knew britishers would want her to bow but no she burnt herself so that she will never bow to anyone. she was badass, savage, warrior. every men feared her but she is underrated.

Her name is pronounced PahTreeAh. It literally meant Country, it's a common name in spanish speaking countries, if a woman is named Patria, it means her parents are very proud to be where they are from. However she was named that because she was born on the Dominican independance day
Also, for the love of God, someone please learn how to pronounce spanish names if you're gonna make videos, or find a latin person even if it's just for that one entry. it's frankly quite annoying and offensive. Mirabal SIsters were more than just 2 brief sentences.
On a side note: I used to attend a center in my hometown named in honour of the Mirabal Sisters, and had the pleasure and honour of meeting and conversing with Dede Mirabal. A truly remarkable woman. (Also her nickname is Dede, not her real name)

What about Chien-Shiung Wu, an immigrant from China, who's work on the Manhattan Project was influential to say the least. After the war she became the first Female professor in physics at Colombia University. She disproved the Law of Conservation of Parity her male colleagues were awarded Nobel Prizes, She did not receive one, solely because she was a woman. She began to speak out in the name of Women in Science. She went on to win several medals, but she went unnoticed. Not many people know of her name, or the amazing work she did throughout her lifetime. As a Asian-American Woman, Chien-Shiung Wu, tore down barriers, and though she does not have the notariety of other trailblazers, she did her work in physics for the betterment of human kind!

My great great grandma who was born in 1875 in Germany and moved to Wisconsin at five years old: her name was Emma Borth Liebsch and she ran a family farm with her kids, grandkids, great grandkids after her husband died in 1923. She spoke German and English and her extra help was ironically my grandpa and his brothers so she also played match maker to my grandma. She ended up dying from Alzheimers and heart disease in 1969. My mom said that my great great grandma was the strongest woman until she couldnt function anymore. Her medical problems never affected her either.

Kinda disappointed that Boudicca was never mentioned here.
But from my country, a very notable woman who defied the norm when the Philippines was forming a revolution against our Spaniard colonists was Gabriela Silang. When her husband, Diego Silang, died, instead of weeping about it, she honored him by avenging his death, in the form of taking his place as the leader. She came down in Philippine History to be known as the first female leader of an Ilocano movement for independence from Spain.

You left out Gwenllian ferch Gruffydd ap Cynan she actually led an army against Norman invaders of Wales. Unfortunately she lost the battle and was executed by the Norman Maurice de Londres. Her husband Gruffydd ap Rhys and her brother Owain (Gwynedd) ap Gruffydd revenged her the following year. There is a field in Cydweli near Cydweli Castle called Maes Gwenllian (Gwenllian's Fiield. She is still remembered even though she died approximately 900 years ago. Her son was the Lord Rhys.

Razia Sultana was another badass woman who sat on the mughal throne of India, in a time when women were not accepted as a ruler by the council. She reclaimed the throne that was given to her by her father, but taken away by her half brother, by garnering public vote. An extraordinary ruler and a champion of women

Queen Matilda of England and her relentless battles against Stephen to take control of the throne which was rightfully hers. Hiding in a wagon of dead bodies to get smuggled out of the castle she was held at, escaping bare foot in the snow in only a white sheet. true badassery right there.

You missed Queen Anula of Ancient Sri Lanka, the first head of state in Asia. She only ruled four months on her own, but for five years she kept several proxy kings as partners and poisoned them one after another. :D

Where I come from, the Mirabal Sisters are national heroines. I feel like more people should read up on them, since they're the reason International Day of No Violence against Women exists
