Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
These are the real life crimes that influenced episodes of this long running, reality-based police procedural and spinoff of Law & Order. In this countdown we take a look at crimes youve probably heard of, including the 2004 case against Lisa Montgomery for strangling the pregnant Bobbie Jo Stinnett, The Roger B. Hargrave Case, Dominique Strauss-Kahn and Rape Allegations, The Jerry Sandusky Scandal, The Disappearance of Etan Patz, The Abduction of Tanya Kach, The Ariel Castro Kidnappings, The Pregnancy Pact, The murder of little Caylee Anthony, the kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart and Michael Jackson's Sexual Abuse Allegations Oh dont forget about Secrets Exhumed. It was heavily inspired by Stephanie Lazarus crime where she killed the wife of her ex lover she dated back in university. She had a abortion just to stay with him and wanted to marry him too. Except the guy broke it off and married someone else and wanted a child with her. That was Stephanies breaking point.

The episode where the Doctor inserted a tube of a patients blood into his arm to beat a DNA (paternity) test is also from a true crime.
True Crime: The doctor did it to beat a rape charge of a patient. They took DNA from his arm which came back as not a match. But the patient was adamant, so she hired a private detective to break into his car and acquire his DNA from a chapstick that was left in there and had it tested at her own cost and it came back as a positive match to her rape kit, but due to the illegal acquisition of the evidence it couldn't be used in court so they got his DNA again from his arm and it too came back as a negative match.
Eventually, his stepdaughter came forward and accused him of raping her throughout her life and this gave them enough for a warrant to take his DNA, which they took from three separate spots on his person and by this time the tube had already been removed.

The one that immediately comes to my mind has a teen kill another in backyard wrestling, over a girl, and when that girl threatens to testify against him, he tries to run her over. While shes in the hospital, its revealed from her dental records, that shes over 30-some-odd-years-old, but still looks like a high schooler because of her dwarfism. The episode reminded me of the movie Orphan, and I found the adult female dwarf passing herself off as a teenager was based on a real story.
Edit: and if I remember correctly, the one about the two girls who kidnap and torture the little Romani boy, was based on the story of an incident in the UK, where two little boys kidnapped, tortured and murdered a toddler and blamed it on having watched Childs Play 3

The fact that these are inspired on true stories. that is sick! That there are ppl out there who would actually do things like this. Like holding women hostage for almost 11 yrs and cutting a baby out the womb. The director yells cut and everyone goes home. But real victims and families are never going to be the same.

SVU also took inspiration from a girl that was REBIRTHED and killed in the process by religious fanatics for therapy, which the girl's adoptive mother had called because the girl was behaving difficult, in one episode. there were actually tapes running during that rebirthing session, so they were prosecuted.

Its 2023 and I still LOVE this showand number 3the Ariel Castro case they even had the witness that rescue these girls wearing the same white shirt and being the same black gentleman that he was on the actual interview. I know it wasnt the same guy, but he was modeled after that guy to a t.

I actually am in Special Olympics in Pennsylvania and we always end the year in June with a big event at Penn State. And when the Sandusky stuff was going on my mom actually asked me if anyone touched me. Ive been in it for 16 years and. I told her no one ever touched me like that.

What about the case based on the chopped up kid they fished out of the Thames in London? While the London cops traipse off to South Africa (and persuaded Neldon Mandela to make an appeal for information) L&O: SVU came up with a credible solution; a child trafficking/slavery ring.

I don't know if its this show or another crime show, but I remember seeing and episode based off the Michael Jackson accusations. And much like real life, it was left a cliff hanger where we dont know if he did anything or not as it is said that the evidence was planted.

As a survivor, the stories on SVU aren't as triggering as the cops on this show & some of the statements they make- specifically the characters of Benson & Stabler. There are plenty of overly righteous police out there just doing their jobs & they do more harm than good

3: 34 That hurts so bad. I can relate. I don't have psycological issues, but I have Autism, and the fact that people have to somehow justify their invisble issues is so sad. My heart goes out to all those people, and I hope things get better for all of you.

Countdown should have been added to this list. Talk a nail bitting and intense episode. Thinking weather or not the SVU team was ever going to find the little girl that was kidnapped and the man that took her away from her family.

No. 1 should have been the one where the man sets up a blind date. Then lures them to the car, drives to a remote forest location and then hunts them. To me it was based on the crimes of Robert Hansen a serial killer from Alaska.

Stockholms syndrome (at least in my experience) is separating the person from their actions. Its like youre experiencing two different people. Its very confusing and disturbing when you have a chance to reflect.

Though this show is still good I think it had it's best days were the seasons before Kragen and Munch left the show. Or maybe through a few seasons after that. But now I think it's time for the show to rest.

They shouldve added the Season 6 Episode 6 Conscience about a 13 year old that murders a 5 year old neighbor. Just like the Derrick Robbie case, 4 year old Derrick murdered by 14 year old Eric Smith.

The John Stamos. Episode about impregnating over 20 women. They could've milked John ahhh! Wait
Would've like to see Stamos, Benson get romantically involved. In the end he gets gutted wide open

Was the one where Eliot's daughter did Ecstasy and broke into a house, took a shower and when the homeowner came home jumped out the window wearing just the shower curtain, based on a real case?

It has been theorized by various paranormal investigators that when someone who dies in prison, theyre soul never leaves. So, with any luck, Castro is still serving his sentence.

That scene in the episode at number 1 where they bust down the door and finding thr dsughter dead hanging from the fan, one of the most darkest moments on the show IMO.
reply

What about the ep inspired by Michael Jackson? Where the guy was an entertainer for kids and accused of molesting themi think just like MJs case, pubic hair was used as evidence
reply

The Sick episode examined the investigation into the horrors of the child molestation saga involving Michael Jackson. Powerful stuff that pulled no punches, it should have been #1.
reply

Is the episode with the twins, one raised a girl after a botched circumcision, on here? That's a crazy one. And it unfortunately happened. The actor playing the twins did great.
reply

y'all should try and watch unit one i believe the english name of it is it's danish and all episodes are based on real events of crimes in denmark truly worth a watch
reply

This is why I love this show so much and why its still running to this day because they always nail it every episode doesnt matter the cast it gets better every season.
reply

It made me physically sick when the coach said to the guy you know out of all my players, you were always my favorite. The actor did a good job playing that role.
reply

I just discovered Special victims unit last month because I ran out of shows to watch but it's already making its way up my favorite shows list: )
reply

the pregnacy pact wasnt real though. it was rumor that spread through the school but many of the girls came forward and said there was no pact.
reply

I remember as a kid hearing about the girls being found in Cleveland and the guy killing himself and how happy we all were that he was dead.
