These songs arent just listened to when youre sad, theyre the hauntingly beautiful songs that make you think, even become melancholic. Songs like How to Disappear Completely by Radiohead, Angel by Sarah McLachlan, Breathe Me by Sia, Mad World by Michael Andrews feat. Gary Jules, and Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton are some of the songs on our list

Okay, I definitely have some different takes on this subject. But, I did very much agree with the following selections by you: ANGEL by Sara M; MAD WORLD-only by Adam Lambert; TEARS I HEAVEN-Eric Clapton; SOUND OF SILENCE-Simon and Garfunkle; HURT by Johnny Cash; ONLY TIME by Enya and HALLELEJUA by Various Artists. Now I would like to list some alternative selections under this title: ROCK-N-ROLL LULLABY by B. J. Thomas; NO ONE KNOWS MY NAME by Gillian Welch; GO REST HIGH UPON THE MOUNTAIN by Vince Gill; LOVE AT THE FIVE AND DIME by Nancy Griffiths; YOU'LL NEVER LEASVE HARLAN ALIVE by Patty Loveless; NEVER ENOUGH by Loren Allred; and many more.

This list is a disgrace. Only a few are truly HAUNTING. And for Enya to be an honorable mention is disrespectful to the narrative.
Plus you left off Song to the Siren AND House of the Rising Sun?
I know opinions vary, but damn you've just proven some to be flat out wrong.
And it would be nice to actually hear the song and NOT your. voice.
This video is one of the many reasons why I'll never Sub to WM. Your staff have terrible taste in EVERYTHING!

I checked this out to hear hauntingly beautiful songs, not to listen to some endlessly narrating over them so I could never actually hear the 15 seconds of each song that they played. No one gives a flying freak about the statistics you give for the song if that means they can't hear any part of it. The only good side of this was that I could check the song titles out later, because I totally agree with Mad World, but maybe not so much with Angel.

I have watched 3 different sad or moving song lists by WatchMojo, and all three had Sound of Silence. What S&G song was NOT on ANY of the three? Bridge Over Troubled Water, perhaps one of the most powerful songs ever, considering the time it was written. (JFK, MLK had passed recently, America was in the middle of Vietnam. Ya know, small events )

Daisy Gray's Version of Wicked Game makes a pretty good showing for this list. The snare is a sample of chains across the floor, the bondage of love, deep in all kinds of ways. Lana Del Ray's Summertime Saddness is another honorable mention. Sting's Shape of my Heart is pretty good too with that crazy lonely nylon string guitar.

Suffer Little Children - The Smiths
The End - The Doors
39' - Queen
Behind Blue Eyes - the Who
Crystal Ship - The Doors
Requiem - Mozart.
There are so many more songs that are darker and more haunting than what is listed. Look beyond the 1990's and you will find a world of ethereal and melancholy ballads.

Madonna's Drowned World/Substitute for Love is personally my favorite hauntingly beautiful song! I mean, just listen to the intro, that monotonic electronic sound and the sweeping cold wind sound matching together is like floating in the middle of nowhere, then Madonna's voice comes in, and it feels like heaven.

Caught By The Light by The Boxer Rebellion is very hauntingly beautiful, and could easily replace some of these on this list. It was used on the television show NCIS after the death of Mike Franks, Agent Gibbs' mentor, for his funeral scenes and other reminiscences of him during that scene. Check it out.

Hmm, I've been looking for beauty in the wrong places. The problem was that I've been looking. Duh! I must create it in my own image. I'll write my own music cause I can never find good songs even if it is a good song, it's not good enough. Some critique of me. xD

My top song for this list would probably be Echoes by Pink Floyd. Its my favorite song by them and also my favorite song of any musician. Its a 23-and-half-minute masterpiece full of emotion and eerie beauty.

I think this category is too personal for any sort of universal agreement. For me, I always thought My Immortal by Evanescence was one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs.

Kris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge Help me make it through the night live 1972 - it will give you a skin orgasm! (need to watch it)

All these songs are NONE I'd ever listen to ever again. I barely got through this video without throwing my phone across the bathroom.
reply

There is some kind of weird agenda here which has nothing to do with beautiful songs. A grab bag of random tuneless depression more apt
reply

Also, 'Old Souls' from The Phantom of the Paradise movie (1974, written by Paul Williams. That's an amazingly haunting song as well.
reply

Why would you talk over the most beautiful songs, while not even giving a small sample of the song to be listened to and appreciated?
reply

-David Bowie's Space Oddity
-Tracy Chapman's Fast Car
-Nirvana's Where Did you Sleep Last Night cover
-Neil Young's Old Man

You Take My Breath Away by Eva Cassidy? The Reason Why by John Farnham [written by Richard Marx] I cry within the first 10 seconds

the narrator leaves no room to hear even a moment of the song and annoying voice & commercial tambour wasn't a good match

The whole video there's this horrible squeaking voice talking so you can't even hear the music. What an idiotic waste. :(: (: (

I think The Freshman by The Verve Pipe deserved a mention as well, but there are a lot of a really beautiful sad songs.

Who Wants To Live Forever - Queen or In The Air Tonight - Phil Collins The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. .. ..
