There are female horror movie characters known to make some terrible decisions. You know the clich; they walk into a dark basement alone even when they know theres danger lurking within, theyre always making loud noises and crying when the bad guy is nearbut these female horror characters are differenttheyre smart and strong. Were talking about Nancy Thompson from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Laurie Strode from Halloween and Sidney Prescott from Scream

7. Ginny Fields - Friday the 13th Part 2

I kinda don't agree with the Dana Polk one. I love the movie, but the stand out for me was always Marty, and I think that was intentional. Dana is quite passive in my opinion, as it is usually everyone around her doing things, barring the end where she attempts to shoot Marty to save everyone. Again, I think this is intentional- she's not exactly the final girl they wanted, being that she's not 'the virgin' technically since she had an affair with her teacher. I wouldn't put her up as one of the smartest female horror movie characters as she only does things when it's with Marty leading her.

I'm super happy that Bridgette and Mary were at least honorable mentions since I love them both so much! I think Erin should have been way higher than she was on the list. Dana from Cabin in the Woods was nice and all but I think Erin was smarter than that; I feel like most of Dana's smarts were based off what Marty was doing to help -- and omg yes I agree with everybody else on here that says Maddie from Hush should have been somewhere on here. That woman was amazing despite being deaf and a mute.

I think Dana is one of the dumbest horror movie characters of all time. Let's go here, Let's open that door, Let's scream and be helpless not to mention she is the one who causes the whole thing to happen despite Marty advasing her not to read the latin. At least her friend was made dumb by the substance in her hair, but she was a natural born dumb.

Of course Ripley is #1, she is the bad babe from beyond that can kiss you or kill you with the same look in her eyes and tone in her voice. She has fear but knows how to use it to move her to do what needs to be done and when angered as well as frightened, she's double trouble. Never miss with kids around Ripley or you will simpley R. I. P!

This was a VERY good countdown! I love that they didn't just fill this with recent movies for name recognizability, but rather selected smart women throughout the broad history of modern Horror. From every decade from the 1960s to the 2010s, these were clever and capable women and that's what I want in a hero!

Girl from Split was dumb, not smart. Where is Kristy Cotton from Hellraiser? She escape from hell and outsmarted cennobites. Elise Rainier from Insidious? She has huge experience and knowledge about demons and The Further. Rachel from The Ring.

Nancy Thompson deserved to be much higher. Higher than Laurie actually. Also, I don't see what the big deal is with Dana from Cabin in the Woods. She's not really that great a final girl. Hell! She isn't even that good.

6: 24 in the backround you can see a doll. Is that a reference to the real life annabelle doll. They look identical. Also for me I would've put Nancy higher considering her part in Dream Warriors even though she dies.
reply

That girl from The Cabin in the Woods shouldn't be on this list. She would've died earlier in the movie if the stoner didn't put in her head about the puppeteers.

SPOLIER ALERT FOR DED AWAKE
The twin from dead awake was really good and really smart to fight the sleep paralysis trying to kill her

reply

Erin From You're Next Deserved to be Number 1, she was completely badass.
Edit: Mia From The Evil Dead Remake, she was also Badass.

Im just starting to watch this but I already know the list is out of order since Erin from Youre Next isnt at the top!
reply

Nancy and Erin should be higher on this list because they handled the situation by themselves with no help.
reply

Am I the only one who considers the silence of the lambs a horror movie? And one of the best of the genre by the way.
reply

How is Dana Polk higher than Erin and Nancy? She literally destroys the world. Her and the stoner will both die.
reply

95% of girls in horror movies f go to the monster and kill their self because they're dumb and they always trip
reply

My favorite horror female is Laurie Strode and Ellen Ripley but also Olivia Husky from Black Christmas (1974.
reply
