Just goes to show that the wannabe film buffs going on and on about CGI being evil and practical effects are always best have no idea what they're talking about. Not only is seamless CGI used frequently in pretty much every modern movie, but it ignores the fact that practical effects and CGI are just tools in the director's tool box. Some effects look really fake when CGI is used, some effects look really fake when practical effects are used. It's up to the filmmakers to choose the right tool for the right job.

Honestly I never expected to see Cool Games Inc in any movies after its sudden cancellation that still breaks my heart. I also still have not heard any mention of that show at all since the incident, witch really sucks as a fan that they won't even tell me that it's being cancelled. If I just missed it, please someone tell me where it is.

Honestly the marina scene instantly stood out to me as looking really weird. I think it's a combination of the strange lighting and the 'wrong' geometry that places it in the uncanny valley for me. The real lighting in the tesseract scene made it instantly feel like a real space, even though it's a science-fiction environment.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but just because something is green screen doesn't mean it's CGI, right? If you have superimposed a video of a miniature spaceship over a photo or video of empty space doesn't make it CGI, none of those images were generated using a computer, just blended together using a computer.

I think that being on location and practical effects should be used as often as possible but I understand time and budget concerns. Actors will give a more genuine performance when actually interacting with the real object or feeing the warm climate and breeze of being on a marina.

My FAVORITE use of practical effects is Mad Max: Fury Road. All the cars, stunts, and explosions are real. They only really used CGI for the color of the landscape to make it super saturated, and to make Charlize Theron appear to be missing an arm.

I knew most of these, but's it's so nice to see the contrast. I did notice Robbie's face was CGI on the movie though. Anyways, loving these sponsored vids. Good stuff.

Visual. it's visual effects, not special
Special effects are done on set/shot in camera (also known as practical effects, visual effects (cgi) are done in post

-We COULD got to an actual marina, but that's too much of a hassle-
Nolan: -I'm gonna create an actual 5th dimension in the studio and nobody can stop me. -

I'm sorry but I, Tonya had horrendous CGI. The movie itself was great but the skating scenes were so distracting because it looked like a Snapchat faceswap.

So what prevents a movie that uses CGI in every scene from being called an -animated feature-? CGI is one reason I've pretty much given up on movies.

I, Tonya was a great movie, but their facial replacement was awful. A MUCH better example of this is in Black Swan with Natalie Portman.

This is why Nolan is the best. The man, sorry I meant the Legend, literally built the slums of Gotham in a giant Hangar in the UK.

I immediately thought interstellar looked more real than wolf of Wall Street. The visuals were just so much more dynamic and sharp.

Tbh you could tell in I, Tonya. Her face was always a little too visible when she would go into fast spirals and spins.

Why even make movies anymore? I'll just sit home and imagine various people walking around shaky blurry backgrounds.

CGI is not special effects. ffs.
CGI is visual effects. Special effects are the practical stuff done on set in-camera.
