It is so nice to see yall talking about TWEWY, a game that I can whole-heartedly say changed my life. When I first picked that game up I was Neku. I had been bullied and felt outcasted and like I couldn't trust anyone or allow myself to open up to people. But as I played the game and saw Neku's growth and the colorful cast of characters that helped him (and hindered him, because lets be real Sho Minamimoto is the best character) I couldn't help but be spurred into action to better myself as well. A few days after playing the game I approached someone at school who was wearing a Naruto hoodie (it was 2008 it was a big deal) and we've been friends ever since! And now I'm working on a degree in game art and design, and while TWEWY itself isn't what inspired me to get into games specifically (it was a tv documentary i saw on psychonauts) I can't help but aspire to one day make something that will touch other people as strongly as TWEWY did for me. -

This was a game that left an impact on me as a teen who was all but checked out of life when I got my hands on a copy. The story is great, the characters are great, and the DS gameplay was probably the best gameplay the DS had to offer. Still I don't think anything I've played on Nintendo's two screen handhelds has presented anything close to usurping the description -most interesting gameplay. - I have tried it on the phone and didn't like it as much because that wild two independent fights thing that made the game so interesting to play was massing. I'd like the switch version to be good, but it looks like it might not live up to my expectations for it, mostly though no fault of it's own. I just expect too much, which is what the original gave us.

Thank you for covering this Simone, you hit a lot of core components of what made twewy such a fantastic game. It really is and under appreciated classic and I was pleasantly shocked when I first heard it was getting ported to switch. I'm saving up to get it but I still at least have my original ds copy and I don't think I'll ever get rid of it cause it's just too precious to me, seeing that it helped me get through such crucial points of my adolescence. And to think, the day I bought it, I almost walked right past it in the store had the kingdom hearts-ish cover not caught my eye. Thank god cause I would've missed out on what is still easily one my top video games of all time =)

I first played the World Ends With You in 2008 as a depressed but creative kid, and I can say with complete sincerity that it changed my life. TWEWY-s perspective on human connection, creative inspiration, and what it means to be alive is a powerful, beautiful thing, and those messages still resonate to my core as a twenty-something today.
And, I mean. The soundtrack-s pretty great.
Seriously, if you can get your hands on the original DS release, I can-t recommend it enough, but even if you can-t- play this game however you can get your hands on it! It-s chaotic and snarky and vibrant and so hopeful, and I well and truly love it to death

I'm so glad to see coverage of TWEWY, it's one of my absolute favorite games ever! My take on the whole one-screen remakes thing is, the DS version is definitely the closest to my heart, but I'm just glad it's available in more accessible ways so more people can play it. I happen to love frantic combat that gives you too much to worry about, but for a lot of people the double-screen combat could turn them off a fantastic game, or even make it physically impossible to play for some, so anything that means they can enjoy the amazing story, music, art, and everything else is A+ in my book.

I picked this game up on a whim well after it launched when I was, like, 30. I adored the game as much as any anime loving kid really into their feelings. The controls were interesting and challenging, the story was rather salient for that time in my life (yes, even as an adult) and the soundtrack kicked so much ass. I also was obsessed with the art design, especially of many of the pins. I still have several real life pins I picked up a convention I worked at that year.
I'm so happy to hear that it's been re-released, but I am still aching for that sequel.

I recently picked up this game on the switch a reluctantly because of the price tag. But after only a day of playing it I realised there was something special about it, down to the music, characters and it's morals. Sure, there are things to improve but I really recommend that you should get it if you-re into RPGs and are looking for something different.

God i loved this game so much. I still have a copy on my original ds lol. I'm a bit disappointed about how they translated it to the motion controls on the switch but I'm honestly just happy a new crop of people are getting introduced and interested in the game. Praying for a sequel with controls that makes good use of whatever system it's on

I bought TWEWY Final Remix for the Switch this year so that I could relive my childhood! At first, I was kind of eh about the controls too, but I have to admit that I found fighting easier than the -rubbing your head and patting your belly at the same time- feel. Plus, it has the co-op mode that people dreamed about but didn't have before.

I love that Final Remix has a way to recreate the complexity of the original by playing -co-op mode- by yourself. If you're really looking to recreate the original experience, this is the way to go! (It's so worth it)

i think they should have implemented more ds like controls in this - controlling your partner with the buttons and using the touch screen for yourself would be complex, but definitely doable

Twewy is the only game that consistently makes me feel hope for the world. A game that makes me believe that life can and will get better, and it can get better with other people

The biggest impact this game had on me was in my musical tastes. TWEWY's soundtrack is amazing, and it introduced me to a lot of different styles that I still enjoy today.

Here's to more of these niche games getting a second life on the modern gen! Maybe we'll finally get that sequel after all--I'm glad I get to try this for the first time!

You really did the game justice in this, awesome vid. I'm loving replaying the game on Switch, the story didn't resonate with me as strongly as a kid as it does now.

Every time I see a character from The World Ends With You, i always think they-re from Kingdom Hearts. I know they-re not but that-s where my brain goes

I'm more than a year late, but I must say that, while I truly love the Final Fantasy series, my 2 favorite games made by Square are TWEWY and Vagrant Story.

Please Sakurai/Nintendo revive this series.
Neku for smash.
The music/art would fit perfectly in smash. Neku erases the competition!

TWEWY is getting an anime adaptation. It's future is literally getting brighter in tone. For the better, or worse.
