Mister police you could have won the game I gave you all the clues. We played Deception: Murder in Hong Kong and did just about as good a job at being detectives as you'd think we would. If you want to know who's who ahead of time look below for SPOILERS: Game 1: Simone = Murderer, Brian = Accomplice, Karen = Witness Game 2: Simone = Murderer
Date: 2023-12-10

It is so satisfying to get that right. Because immediately I was like Blunt force trauma obviously if there-s bruise and bleeding and then I was like what signifiers outside? a bug. Throughout it that was the one that made the most sense to me. Because just going off of clues before anyone said anything I was like it-s either the push and cigarette or the statue and out of the two one cracks and one does not. And then the rest of the forensic evidence just establish that more but it took people forever to get to it and they kept on dismissing it again and again I-m like am I insane I don-t think so it must be this one. Also it-s wild just seeing some of the theories that they went with that were way more stretched over the very plausible statue bug

I love that the two games form a beautiful saga: Karen Han, the Detective whose deductions are dismissed as wild theories, tries to capture the killer, Simone De Rochefort. At first, she, the only witness to her murder, is undone thanks to the work of Simone's accomplice, Brian David Gilbert, but when Simone strikes again by smashing someone's head in with a bust on a balcony, the only clue on the body being a ladybug and the cracked sculpture, Karen endures the ridicule from her colleagues to pursue her #SculptureBug Theory and bring Simone to justice!

Interestingly, the rules don't require you to place all bullet tokens at once. The FI can place whenever or however quickly they like. A good strategy is often to start off with one or two to generate conversation, and when they start heading down a path you like or that fits another tile - place another bullet down.
reply

Have the rules been changed? Because all videos of this game is people speculating freely after the evidence collection phase when the rules clearly says you go straight to presentation (and they skipped over the presentation phase completely.
reply

So many clues jump out at me
The scarf, the towel, the whip causing strangulation
The love letter or necklace being tokens of affection
And the cigar or cigarette ash being signs of a post coital smoke

reply

Simone was being kinda obvious in the second round if you think about it. She was clearly trying to misdirect them to guessing the wrong items on her, which was a good idea but done too conspicuously.
reply

Ah yes, a game where the only murder happening is the groups killing Pat with their insanity. You can see the agony on his face the entire time. it was not quick and it was most painful.
reply

why did people think it was brian, who the hell has a baseball bat on a balcony at a baseball game, that would probably be considered a weapon and not allowed inside of the stadium -
reply

this feels like i'm bragging but as soon as simone read out her cards in the second game i thought it was her. for the wrong reasons, of course, but i still got the person right shzj[$_-

Now that scarf and love letter and scarf and necklace are gone, I have to assume it-s cigarette ash or cigar. Im definitely feeling a post coital smoke

reply

I have a question about choosing the weapon and evidence. When the murder picks the weapon does the evidence have to match? Or can I pick like, Acid and hat?
reply

i love the idea that forensic scientists know exactly what happened, but can only communicate through buzzfeed quiz style irrelevant answers to random questions
reply

The oriental girl does not allow immersion in the game. The game is supposed to be tension, with accusations, and not a table of laughter. -
Sorry.

reply

As soon as Simone started pitching herself as the murderer but with a different clue/weapon combo than #sculpturebug it felt like a misdirect
reply

Great vid. At 6: 34 the Forensic Scientist says he's going to replace one of the -useless- clues. In my opinion, this is giving too much away.
reply

I love that everybody forgot the love letter couldn-t be it cuz of artistic instead of written and wasted so much time and energy on it
reply

Is it just me or does this whole game's concept seem a bit half-baked. They make it as entertaining as they can but I dunno.
reply

That last one was super obvious to me.
And considering Im stoopid, this doesn-t bode well for the Polygon Detective Agency -

reply

-Karen was the only one suspecting you for the towel-
Let's ignore how it was Patches nailing the right combination --

reply

while fun to watch, not my type of game. being stuck having to watch your friends argue and not being able to say anything?
reply

Why would anybody want barack obamas signature? I threw that one out of the game, no political crap in board Games
reply

This game is rad! The gang hyped me up to play it too even though I'm quite bad with detective mysteries haha
reply

Why do people say no one believed karen-s sculpture bug when Allegra was right there as soon as she said bug
reply

Okay I'm three minutes in, but it's Brian, right? I mean, it has to be, that foreshadowing is so strong.
