Ever have trouble differentiating Fire Emblem characters? With a little help from Brian David Gilbert and an old form of Italian theatre, you'll never have that problem again

How dare you call my main man Seteth a buzzkill? I'll have you know I had a tea party with him and he was the first character I ever unlocked extra time with, so I pressed -X- to banter and -Y- to joke and got him right under my thumb. Absolutely has more going on under the hood.
Though it was odd and a little disturbing when [Spoilers] turned out to be [Spoilers] and he just pretends like it's cool for [Spoilers] to call him [Spoilers] because he thinks it will conceal the truth which is honestly pretty dumb. There are better ways than that.

The thing with Dimitri is that he is f-ING crazy, and the one who changes the most dependent on the route, so depending on when and which we're talking, he belongs to a different category in my view. Crazy murder hobo Dimitri definitely belongs to the edgelord archetype, I'm not discussing that. But I think the sane, recuperated Dimitri goes in honorable knight, I mean, the thing that defines that version is duty.

Would it have been easier to base it on a phenetic system? Starting by grouping them on which game they appeared, then going by most general traits to more specific. Or maybe a phylogenetic approach would have been easier, with the lines representing loyalty hierarchy instead of evolutionary descent. If I'm wrong in something please correct me.

The much easier four classifications for Fire Emblem: Good character design, good characterization, both and neither. Because in reality that's all the fanbase ever cares about. Byleth is literally a mute protagonist but she's hot, so the fandom likes her.

You know i clicked on this, expecting a bunch of fire emblem lore and clean separation from character types. What i got was an aligorey about how if you sort people into easy to define categories you reach the point where the categories are meaningless?

i just had a thought that the Commedia dell'arte was probably one of the first ways to share fanfic, since what a lot of people use fanfiction for these days is to tell a story without making up their own characters that they have to explain to the reader

I can't believe I'm commenting on this 3-year-old video to fact-check it, but. I'm confused as hell why 7: 30 says Kronya under -Bad Folks Gone Good. - Not only does Kronya never become good, she's not even playable in Three Houses?

Wouldn't kabuki be a closer analogy. I'm not 100% but i feel like they have masks or face paint dictating their 'roles' or 'character'. And both, Id assume, are Japanese origin. (hell maybe kabuki copied from the italian one)

Since I first saw this video I started college and became an acting major and am currently studying the commedia dell-arte and playing the arlecchino archetype in a project this week. We have truly come full circle.
reply

straight up thought that commedia dell'arte was just a college fever dream i had during a migraine- and blended-nacho-fueled coma i slipped into after an all nighter.
thank you for reminding me!

Regarding the challenge of -try to remember something about every single person in your contacts list, - that's easy for me.
My parents, my grandmothers, and my aunt. That's it. Five people. Done.

I was rewatching because I wanted to see where BDG put Eldigan from Seisen no Keifu/Genealogy of the Holy War but I can't find him anywhere: ( Can anyone find him for me, or did BDG forget him?

I will say, I feel like Edelgard deserves to be in the 'Pretty Interesting' category, because beneath the surface level, she's got a LOT of depth. Kinda did her dirty there

Perhaps my most embarrassing moment on this earth is actually being reminded of the comedia del arte before he even said it. We are unfortunately cut from the same cloth

Hortensia the haltworker: 10: 18 Hilda is finally here, and so is the 7th digital episode, such a nice way to look at the characters that came out after -Fire emblem: engage-

I discovered this video a couple of days ago and I can't stop watching it and laugh out loud, wonderful video, standing ovation for La comedia dell anime.

I humbly request a redo of this but with all the new characters from last 3 years. Because they absolutely needed about 50-100 new people to draw from
reply

At least I remember 948 character in heroes with their alternate timeline and event variation, hell even past (young) and future self.
reply

It's not really fair to point out that you shared a name with two others at the place you worked, considering that you have 3 first names.

1: 16 -even after trimming the non playable ones-
6: 52 -and only some of them become playable-
Something-s wrong, I can feel it!

He said stock charecters and I immediately went, -oh! Like comedia del Arte- and I think I-m just to much of a theater kid

I have only 48 contacts in my phone and I managed to remember something about all but one of them.
Who the hell is Isaac?

Coming back to this, 3 years later a week after Engage has released, and 5: 41 is even funnier with Engage-s storyline

As a Fire Emblem fan, I feel greatly offended and personally attacked by this video.
11/10, absolute masterpiece.

reply

I love this video so much but it does still hurt a little that Forrest and Soleil weren't under gender norm destroyers
reply

To be fair to Seteth, SOMEBODY needs to be a responsible adult in that monastery, because it absolutely isn-t Rhea.
reply

I played Luciano AND Lombardi in servant of two masters you would not BELIEVE how much I learned about comedia del arte
reply

Playing Lies of P when suddenly a name sticks out to me and I don't know why right away. Then I remembered
3: 06

Cheerful despite circumstances is just filled with people that are Perrito form Puss and Boots: The last wish

It's not a true Unraveled unless you want to give Brian a pat on the head and a nice hot cup of tea by the end
