Wrestling Empire is a one-man project that reflect the weird world of wrestling better than any AAA wrestling sim. Wrestlers are an itinerant warrior class who struggle with access to health care, bruising schedules, and promotions that can treat talent as disposable. This janky game reveals the pants-peeing, grim underbelly of wrestling, and Polygon's Patrick Gill is here to take you on a tour of this strange world

I just played one career in Wrestling empire and it was just with the free version. It was crazy nonetheless. I started off with wrestling school, went to multiple promotions was a champion for a long time at one of the promotions, someone I wrestled died after the match due to injuries which I decided to replay because it was too much for me, I hot beat up before matches, changed my gimmick, eventually lost the title, ended up back in wrestling school and since I did not meet some targets there(there was no way to) they let me go from there too and I had to retire. This was just with the free version, the paid version gives you more stuff I think. It was just an amzing time I had, would definitely buy it on console, if it ever releases there. The gameplay does get a bit repetitive at times but it is still pretty damn good imo. One of the most enjoyable games I have ever played on my phone.

I had a run with a character here, Cathedral from Wrestling School, worked hard for almost a year and then be signed to Rising Sun Puroresu, where I had the chance to become Tiger Mask's protegee, becoming World Champion after defeating Misawa, life was good, until one day, I get blindsided in the subway and subsequently, thrown in front of a train, and miraculously survive, though severely injured.
Ten weeks later, he repackaged himself into becoming The Reaper, Japan newest nightmare, as he will deliberately destroy his opponents and purposefully injure them, and throw them against a train in his first chance, after his fifth victim, one of the Reaper survivors, blindsides him, punch him from behind right in the dick, and throws him. The train comes and all he can hear is the wheels crushing him, and finally, both his career and life, meets to an end.
Wrestling Empire is just so good.

I once had a great run with a character in this, he was world travelled and had won a number of world championships until one day injuring a fellow wrestler, and later accidentally killing the same wrestler in self defense. This started a downward spiral of fury and chaos as he killed several other wrestlers before himself being thrown in front of a train. Miraculously he survived, but while recovering from injuries in the hospital the champion (who my guy was scheduled to face for the belt until the train incident shelved him) showed up and beat him to death on his collapsed hospital bed. It was one of the most bizarre stories I've ever played 11 outta 10

Never thought I'd see a major media outlet covering MDickie. I grew up playing these games for years and years. I always thought the games were more realistic than anything else available on the Triple A/Double A market. It's 2023, and finally people are going to discover the joys of jumping into a MDickie creation. I also recommend Popscene (Music industry sim, Reach (Pro boxing sim, Hard Time (Prison gang sim) and the plethora of other related spinoffs to the wrestling games. If anyone sees this comment and gives it a chance, please leave a comment below. The man needs more exposure.

Just for a correction. Wrestling Empire did do backstage attacks correctly at least in my opinion.
If you get into fights backstage with someone their friends will hate you and will even try to attack you. Also it will damage your -Attitude- stat. This along with your popularity contribute to whether or not you get signed again. Also on top of that if you injure someone you will occasionally have to pay for their injuries or get branded a negligible and reckless which will hurt your -Popularity- stay

I play Mat games since the childhood (encore, revolution 3d, remix, etc, and yisus christ their games dont have mercy with you, 3 months ago, i finally could play Empire, and my mc was bullied on indy circuit and dies drunked lol, but when you get a midcard title on a random promotion, it feels gorgeous, even after losses it on the first defense, in a way, makes me feel how a real life wrestler could feel on a moment like that, magic.

The Mick Foley book goes into the gimmicks, spares no punches on how bad they could get. For whatever reason he was able to talk his way out of a bad one and we got Mankind instead, which I guess proves how important those social skills and charisma could be in a career. Plenty of people probably tried to talk their way out of a bad gimmick but just didn't have the Foley charm.

I played CM Punk's career in this game and won number of titles at various promotion in another career which is still going I was teamed up with Cena and remained in the team for like 2-3 years until I was kicked out of Federation Online but the worst end was in a different career where a fellow wrestler threw my character on the train and he couldn't be saved

So how do I get this? I want to play this. It's not weird. This is freaking brilliant. It's like fallouts or Skyrim, but you're a wrestler instead of a night or survivor of nuclear apocalypse. Weird is that WCW game on Super Nintendo where it's at a awkward angle? That's weird Why? Why do they do that to us? Why The horror the horror

The juice wae so good to Hunter, he looked like he swelled up two sizes after he was laid up with a major injury that was caused from steroid abuse in the first place. Muscle ripped right off the bone, as could happen when they swell up unnaturally, and he still filled himself up with the stuff because of what it meant for his career.

I adore Wrestling Empire (known as Mpire in the older days. I've played it off and on for years. Despite the clunky gameplay and dated graphics it is, by far, the most immersive wrestling game I've ever played. While WWE games nail the in-ring action, Empire simulates all the backstage stuff. It's so addictive.

damn this got dark real fast.
I'd say a lot of the things shown in the game are realistic (although some things like the pissing incident are kinda unnecessary) but it also has to be said that a lot of wrestlers don't get life-altering injuries or die early. it does happen but it's not the standard.

I had so many bizarre and great stories just gonna rank the best ones. (If you want back story ask-)
1. The GM that died and reincarnated a year and half later to fire me.
2. The Ecstasy of the women's championship.
3. A mentor, a friend, redemption, died a jobber.

Unions don't always look out for the little guy like alot of you think. the one time I been in a Union was enough to just say f-ck no to unions. Unions start well an all but eventually they get just as shady as the corporations that they supposedly should be protecting you from.

In the mobile version( which is lesser but has some of the same kinda realism) I had a tag team partner who wanted me to play into his gimmick and I refused to which he switched to my gimmick instead and we broke off soon after and became enemies

I know very little about wrestling but I do work at a movie theater and from the clips from this video, the casting of Jeremy Allen White as Kerry Von Erich (in the upcoming film The Iron Claw) was absolutely inspired, they look SO much alike

Pat's videos have made me really appreciate wrestling. This video specifically reminds me of the Box Brown -Andre the Giant- nonfiction comic. Its really sobering stuff that shows the limits of athleticism and showmanship

FUN FACT: It is a very old mobile game named WRESTLING REVOLUTION 3D. It even had a 2D version before which was also as fun as this one. I always found the non licensed names of wrestlers funny and attractive lol

There was a mod around 2012 that had pretty much every wrestler at the time from ROH WWE, TNA etc. It was actually the best wrestling game I have ever played. It felt like a fever dream, but holy shit it was nice

Mat Understands the business very well and Wrestling Empire is a proof how big of a fan he is of wrestling it has literally everything that other wrestling games don't
reply

You can choose to retire in wrestling Empire and if you are in the promotion of the mdickie you can continue with the same character and start a booking career
reply

I remember spending days on end building a promotion from the ground up what wonderful memories I have of this game Pity it isn't available anymore

So good, this is why I have tremendous respect for Pro Wrestlers. In the end, I couldn't help but think about Bray Wyatt, a gem of a guy we lost so soon -.
reply

Literally the next best game behind here comes the pain tbh. I have all my wrestlers customized to their real life counterparts. It-s pretty fun

I once beat up a popular wrestler to his demise- he had a lot of friends who came after me and ganged up on me till my demise! What a game! -

Bryan Danielson is currently wrestling with and eye patch on after receiving orbital bone surgery mere weeks ago. Time is a flat circle

if every game is wrestling, and wrestling empire is the best wrestling game, by the transitive property, doesn't that make it the best game?
reply

had a career where my wrestler never got out of the indies and was 2, 000 dollars in debt, only to die by being tossed in front of a train

This game is a perfect wrestling game. It's like someone ported an N64 era game into a pc and expanded the options with modern hardware.
