i honestly wish this series would go back to the visual novel style of 999--i mean look at those character illustrations drawn by rui tomono. is it seriously cheaper to animate 3d models than to hire an artist to draw a handful of alt expressions and cutscenes? shit, maybe start a gofundme/kickstarter/etc.
at any rate, i didn't quite care for VLR (part of that being for the 3d models) but here's to hoping this installment will be as good as the original? va's seem on point at least, i love me some mercer.

i seriously miss the old style from 999. ztd's style is honestly gorgeous, but i miss the original soooooOo much. especially since vlr only used it for concept art/box art. the atmosphere of vlr was soo boring lmao and im scared that this game might be the same?
i loved the 2d visual novel aspects of the first game. i loved reading the detailed depictions of gore and being spooked by the imagery. you didn't get that with the cute anime 3d models in vlr.

reply

I don't mind the new look, but I still kind of wish they stuck to the original 2D Sprites like the first game for the last two games like the traditional VNs.
Nonetheless! I'll play this in Jap and even the English voice acting sounds good. The music also sounds awesome so far-
Edit: Having played it a bit so far, I can tell right away that it's easy to get used to the models and it lives up to expectation-

As someone who's actually completed the first two games and owns this one: the animations are fine. I'm actually starting to prefer them. People are free to get butthurt that it's not a AAA cinimatic experience, but humans are adaptable creatures. Getting used to the presentation in this game is a quick and fairly painless process that ends in simply enjoying it.

the new 3D models look great. but something about their mouths look. bad. They look awkward. If they're going to make full-fledged cutscenes, they should have done a better job of making the models speak right. their mouths are like that of zombies. especially diana's. The rest of her looks okay, but her stationary mouth is awkwardly to long and ajar.

did you guys not take in everything? rewatch it that -stop- keyhole is the same where the end of the guns barrel is the same keyhole that says -stop- is it connected in some way? there was also a number thing with a -g- at the end could that be grams? i wonder how he ended up in the chair the begging he wasnt. hmm i am going to love this: D

These graphics look fantastic! Like VLR's but even smoother. Glad to hear Phi's got the same smexy voice, and is that Matt Mercer coming out of Troy Baker's mouth? Best replacement they could've picked! Diana's voice though, I can't tell if that's Laura Bailey or not.
Man, this game just gets better and better. UGH can't wait.

reply

Well, so far, we have confirmed that atleast 4 are going to survive (Diana, Phi, Sigma, and Akane and _maybe_ Junpei.
In my opinion, everyone will survive in the -true end-, because if we look at the past games, in 999 only the -ninth- man died, and I don't recall anyone dying in Zero Virtue's Last Reward -true ending-.

reply

Whether you like the game's new cinematic cutscenes or not, you can't deny that the zero escape series tried different things with each instalment instead of just making the same game with a different skin over and over again like Telltale does.
reply

I think I felt a lonely tear on my face. That gun isn't so close to Sigma, right? Couldn't Diana. for example. hide it with her own hand? It would end up with blowing her hand, the three of them would be alive, tho.
reply

Can somebody answer this? Will the European version contain English voices this time? Virtue's Last Reward had only Japanese voices in Europe and I was hoping Zero Time Dilemma got English voices this time around.
reply

People, we almost didn't get this game due to the failure (sales wise) of the first two games. Instead of complaining about the animations why not appreciate the fact that we got the game in the first place?
reply

Lmao. I seen people playing this on Twitch and idk why, but this game was just funny to me. I lost it when the villain was telling a story about the runner and said she died cause of a snail or something.
reply

Not as much of a fan of the animation quality. I didn't like ZE: VLR's female character styles, but it did feel a bit more fitting. At least we still get the original voice actors and a great story.
reply

You know. I never noticed this before but Phi she has like Diana's face and hair but Sigma's eyes. I wonder if she could be a jumper from a even more distant future.
reply

Ahhhhh yes, all that classic music! Missing the -seek a way out- tune, but that's ok. And thankfully that annoying -typing sound- when speech is written out is now gone.
reply

This ISN'T an adventure game like it's advertised. Its a search and find mixed with a VN, it's not even a game. A VN is not a game, it's just a visualized book.
reply

The characters look way different than they used to, I wonder who or what roped them into another death game this time. (they can't catch a break)
reply

I really hope PC goes like DR in PC, with a good mouse cursor and such, because DR was a really GOOD adaptation to pc!
well
at least in gameplay

reply

Woho, watch out Polygon, this might have violence against female pixels, I bet that takes some diversity points off your ranking system right?
reply

I'm assuming SIgma will turn his head and take the bullet in the eye where there is the least damage, unless that timeline isn't there.
reply

So hyped for this game but the mouth animations really do irritate me. It's a March build though so I'm hoping it'll have been fixed by release
reply

oh please no, why 3d character models? ('= =. give me back the animated hand-drawn sprites, they were awesome in the first game
reply

this. really lacks the same urgency in the original 999
why'd they have to go the 3D route? really, does anyone like it more?

reply

Oh God. Those mouth animations. Those MOUTH animations. Couldn't they have done a better job? Having second thoughts here.
reply

For a game that's supposed to be like Saw, this is pretty dull. Then again, I never played the Saw games themselves.
reply

Why can't they have kept the animations VLR style? Luna looks a hundred times better than this open-mouthed Diana
reply

this voice acting is horrorifyyyyinngggggggggg
It's so incongruent with the visuals and even realism too D:

reply

I hate to be a critic. But that animation is really killing it for me. I wish they would have stuck to text-based.
reply

Isn't Carlos the main one? Or is it Sigma? I confused. But i hope that Sigma will be the main one.
