Shadow of the Beast: Original vs. Remake

First announced in 2013, Heavy Spectrum's remake of Shadow of the Beast will finally be released tomorrow. If you aren't familiar with the original, it's something of a cult classic, first released for the Amiga in 1989 by Reflections and Psygnosis. We weren't terribly fond of the new version, but fortunately the original is packed right in with the download. Above you'll find footage from the new version as well as a taste of the original, to give you an idea of just how far The Beast has come

That's too bad i remembered how hard the first game was and like years after it's release (at least for the sega genesis which is he version i knew) somebody found out an invincibility cheat and everybody went to back to play it once more. This remake looks beautiful, but it appears that it is hard for the wrong reasons, like a messed up controller, And that thing about unlocking cutscenes is a preposterous attempt of replay value.

The art design of the backgrounds -is- cool but they really do not make it easy to keep track of the player during combat at a glance. Like, that last fight - the enemies, the background, and the player are all shades of dark grey, there are corpses distracting you in the foreground, and the camera's not even centered on you. Bizarre.

The original gameplay was kind of cluncky too. Even for the oldschool levels. But if they are not remaking the levels, they should not remake the downsides of gamplay.
SotB was great because it had graphical design ahead of it's time. This appeal is hard to remake.

The 1989 one wasn't all that either. It just had innovative sci-fi/ dark fantasy designs and good, haunting music. The gameplay was indifferent and monotonous and the second one was practically unplayable.

I vaguely remember the first game. The second one creeped me out as a kid. They just had a weird vibe to them when I was young. lol.

Harsh. But fair. Those button-mash sequences you're prompted to activate remind me of everything I disliked about God of War

If you can't cover you back it's not game's fault. When you get mechanics the whole fight becomes fluid and entertaining

The new one kind of sucks, I totally forgot about this one. This one sucked balls too. The mechanics blow ass.
