A lot of that you could hear on the Dr. Demento show. Dead puppies aren't much fun, The Homecoming Queens got A gun, Spam, poisoning pigeons in the park just for some examples. Most were pretty good songs when they came out. Surprised Sha Na Na was not on there.

These songs are terrific! I love purple people eater etc. there are a lot of fun during Halloween. This music is great now I don’t know what they call it that’s out there the people listen to oh I know it’s called trash.
reply

I'd say a few of these would stretch the meaning of novelty. Maybe half could be considered that, but I wouldn't count the two movie tie-ins, especially. Some of them would be more at home as one. hit wonders rather than novelty
reply

No Homer & Jethro or Howard the Duck theme song. Some great songs here, though. John Cash The One on the Right was on the Left might fit, too. Oh, and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch.

I was thinking I might say 2013 was the worst music not 1953 and 2000It was more better in 1953 because how Hollywood did it came back then I like old people music I was Born with call Paul anken

How about Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Backseat by the Avons, Freddy Four Toes by Don Bowman, and the Diet Song by Bobby Bare And Johnny Cash One piece at a time or Boy Named Sue
reply

Not many from 2010 onwards makes me think today's artists take themselves a bit too seriously. Come on Ed Sheeran and Adele, write a song about the Smurfs or Paddington or something!

Probably missed a few of the greatest. Li'l Red Riding Hood by Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs, Shaving Cream by Benny Bell & Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer by Elmo and Patsy.

Edelweiss asked Abbas management for permission to copy their song. They said yes. Abba themselves only found out later and were furious but couldn't do anything by then
reply

fun fact about the ketchup song is that it reached the top 10 of every country (#1 in almost every country besides croatia for some reason) EXCEPT for the US. it hit #54

The Barron Knights made a plethora of novelty songs in the 70s & 80s so why didn't you count them and that irritating Whigfield song-Saturday Night

I was fortunate enough to hear Chuck Berry perform My Ding-A-Ling live in Jacksonville one time many years ago. Sometime around 2, 000.
