This is a recap of 120 songs that entered the international charts for the first time in 1974. The songs are in chronological order, sorted by chart entry date in the US or UK or another country where they first charted. I'm sorry. but if you got Jolene by Dolly Parton, how did you miss I Will Always Love You She wrote the 2 songs on the same night and released them on the same record.
Or are you under the impression that Whitney Houston was the first person to release it

Some mistakes I noticed (there are probably more): I shot the sheriff is from 1973. It is original from Bob Marley, Clapton covered it.
If you go away is form 1959. It’s written by Jacques Brel. The English translation was first recorded in 1966.

The worst song on here is Havin’ My Baby. It made me want to puke, not just because I was pregnant it’s our daughter.

I thought it was going to be full length songs. This reminds me of those 70s commercials for record collections.
Just call 1 800. for over 50 of the greatest hits of the decade!

Wow. 90% of those tunes were horrid. The '70's were a huge disappointment compared to the '60's. Disco and other trash that was finally eclipsed by New Wave. Hallelujah.

Just look at the incredible variety and musical diversity that was present back in popular music of 1974. Now consider where we are 50 years later.

I knew most of these. And, since I was only 7 in 1974, some of the groups were very unfamiliar to me. The group Mud comes to mind. Great list.

Such a cross road of time! From John Denver to the Doobie Brothers to the Eagles and Styx! I grew up knowing most of these songs!

1974 was a good year for music! I was born 10 years later but heard all of these great hits throughout my childhood.

Some of these songs and acts I've honestly never heard of, but that's okay--theynever heard of me, I'll wager

Stevie Wonder produced his best work during the 70’s. Today’s artists can’t touch these guys with a 10ft pole.
