Woman Rescues Frozen Bird Rescued With A Blow Dryer Whenever possible, I share with people that birds should never be kept as pets. But, because I have a huge CA Pepper tree in my front yard, I once ended up housing and caring for an Australian Eastern Rosella that landed in our tree. And I also found a very young albino Cockatiel wandering on foot, in my yard. No-one ever posted Lost ads, so we decided to keep both birds, knowing that we would provide them with daily freedom/flight time and lots of love.
Both birds stayed with us for many years. The cockatiel was an amazing talker. He said all kinds of things that he learned from us. One thing he really enjoyed was getting a bath (not too often) and then being dried off with the hair dryer. You could tell he loved the heat. Please people: DO NOT keep birds as pets. They are messy, they are a lot of work and worry. Most important: They all want to fly free and they need to be able to forage in the wild and find their mates. It is cruel to keep them caged.

I’m surprised that this woman didn’t have better instincts of what to do(especially as a woman. The second I saw it I’d have it under my top against my hot skin and then warm it up more. She left it, then put it in a bucket and spent ages sorting a hairdryer outside. kind of baffling, but at least her delays didn’t kill it and she helped saved it, which is the main thing: )

You know this never-ending amount of feel-good stories reminds me of a global phenomenon you're supposed to have had enough of.
It's called cat pictures.
But you know, as the world looks today and the way things seem to be heading, I really need some feel good stories like this one to be able to keep my faith in mankind.

A frozen Starling. These are a tough little bird. Thanks to the young lady for being a hero. Growing up in N. S. these little birds spent their winters here and traveled in large flocks, hundreds. We also called them CRACKES.

Some birds go hybernate momentarily when their body temperature drops, then comes back when the temperature is up. The nature is very graceful and resilient.

I don't know what technique was used to freeze that guy, but after defrosting he was perfectly fresh and tender. Top quality produce!

It’s great that she helped, however maybe put the bird next to a a heater next time. Hair Dryers can scorch bird skin
reply

Hairdryers contain Teflon which is extremely toxic to birds.
The bird no doubt dropped dead soon thereafter. Good job!

On cold, windy, winter nights, for years to come, that little tiny bird will often dream happily of the warm wind machine.
