Coyote Spotted Playing With Neighborhood Dogs Meets Another Coyote Im wondering if someone bought him as a pup under an exotic/rare domestic dog breed name and when he turned out to be quite different than expected (a coyote rather than a rare breed of domestic dog) they kind of threw up their hands in despair and just let him do as he wished. He was probably quite the escapee. I know male dogs tend to be more frequent escape artists, just from all the dogs Ive run into on the street that were males. Collared and ID tagged, healthy looking coats and bodies so they werent strays. Just good at getting out. I always tried to catch them if it seemed safe so they could be returned to their humans.

Carmine I'm sorry is clearly domesticated. Probably ran away or worse was thrown out when his owners realised he's always going to have some of his wild traits. His body weight and temperament are good clear signs of a domesticated past. Especially his bodyweight. He looked heavy. Well done on re-homing him. But I really hope yous made some effort to advertise him etc in case he did escape on someone. Rather than just catching him and giving him away immediately.

This doesn't look like a coyote, but more like a coydog (dog x coyote mix. In fact, parts of his confirmation like his sloping back look like a shepherd, and his black coloration with the white spot on his chest also looks like a domestic dog more than a coyote. Which would also explain why he's so friendly. He was probably raised around humans and other dogs and later dumped.

Clearly a very special (and beautiful) coyote. I am so happy he wasn’t destroyed and was taken to a safe place where he could experience life long companionship. Some animals get lucky. His genetics and wits helped him! Wish that wolf that came around to play with people’s dogs had experienced a fate similar to Carmine’s: (

Seems like he wasn't a danger to anyone. He was healthy and well fed. Why not leave him alone. No matter who was complaining, clearly more people were taking care of the animal. He should've been left alone. Now he lives in a cage. With a collar on. Nothing like the freedom he had before.
Good job.

Poor pup was likely someone's pet whose owner either couldn't take care of him or passed away and left him to someone else, and instead of being surrendered directly to a rescue someone dumped him on the street. Glad to see he has a forever home now and will never be lonely again!

He's such a sweet baby right out the gate, definitely must be hand-raised, kicked out of his pack very young, or another example of nature deciding living with humans is easier than fighting. I hope he lives a long happy life with lots of friends.

Aww. Cayotes are even cuter than European foxes, if that's even possible. horrible that people revile them so much when they're just trying to survive and stay alive. Wonderful work done here!

Definitely had some handling in the past with someone way too tame. Also, his color is very unusual as if he were mixed with something. I’m so glad the story had a good ending.

Thank you so much for treating these animals like they deserve to be treated humanely with just as much a right to be here as anyone that has a problem with wildlife

People like to forget that Dogs are very closely related to coyotes. Let’s stop villianizing our wildlife animals and give them credit for contributing to our ecosystem.

The way he was so friendly and playful with dogs and so calm in the trap makes me suspect he’s been in a kennel before. He’s a handsome boy. Happy for him
reply

Not a coyote! Probably a cross. Also, beyond a female with less than year old pups, coyotes don't form packs. Animal lovers no doubt, but ignorant

Was it really the right thing to do How do they know he wouldn't have been happier in the wild He's going to be fenced off for the rest of his life now.
reply

So glad the people he were good people who found a humane sanctuary most people would have shot him he is so unique and kind I’m glad he has a happy life
reply

Don't be fooled, coyotes do this to fool the dogs and when they have their trust they take them to the rest of the pack to kill and eat them.
reply

Coyotes play with the dog and lures it away in the woods where other waiting coyote's will attack him and kill him and eat him.
reply

Yeah, live out their lives in that shitty little enclosure when they are perfectly able to live in the wild. I am not impressed.
reply

Beautiful animal, but most certainly not 100% coyote based on color and temperament. Glad he has a new friend and a great home.
reply

Coyotes know the right body language to communicate with our pet dogs. This is really freaking cool. What a cool coyote!
reply

Thats how they get your dogs. They befriend them over time and trick them into playing with the pack and then dunzo!
reply

reminds me of weave the cayote lol. Check out timmy mc if you want to see a pet dog befriending a wild cayote and racoon.
reply

Never seen a black coyote before. I figured maybe he was a hybrid, either coy dog, or maybe mixed with red wolf.
reply

I owned a Coyote cross for 19 years, and never once observed him obeying me. Not good pets but they live a long time.
reply

coyotes are so much cooler than dogs and they know it. Not sure if pure coyotes are ever black like that
reply

Carmine! Friendly coyote running around GA burbs. Coyotes need space to live just like all other living things.
reply

kinda sad that even thought they are docile they will never have homes or families or be truly loved: /
reply

He is an example of how lone wolves, in the distant past, became domesticated by approaching humans.
reply

What a happy love story between coyotes. Somebody needs to make an animated short movie about this.
reply

How do you confiscate somebodies animal just to put it in your own cage Sounds like theft to me.
reply

These are very cunning and smart animals, they make friends and lure your dogs to an open field.
reply

I wondering is it’s a melanistic coyote and if it is. Then that’s super super rare I think
reply

Ya gotta love a happily ever after story -- especially when it involves puppy love like this one does!
reply

If they reproduce, the pups will be beautiful specimens and folks wlll stand in line to adopt them.
reply

I'd be curious to know if that male has any other canine DNA. I've never seen a dark coyote like that.
