This man found an orphaned baby squirrel and bottle feeds him at work. The squirrel even got an official job title at this jewelry shop. He told us all about how things got wild one the squirrel became a teenager, and finally prepared him to return back into the wild. Ha! He said he was surprised at how charming squirrels are and that is very true. A hand reared squirrel is more loving than one would guess. And they can return to the wild (although they might stay in your yard.

When mother squirrels dump a baby from the nest it's usually because there is something wrong with it, some type of disability that we may not be able to see, and sometimes those types of things may not show up for a period of time. We had a red squirrel when I was a child, when I found her she was a newborn, and she seemed normal at first. But then we noticed that, not only was she deaf in one ear, but she also moved and reacted more slowly than a wild squirrel should, and the vet determined that most likely she was born with brain damage. So we decided to just keep Beanie and she was a great little companion/pet for several years.

Charlie's tiny, dexterous hands are IDEALLY suited for working in a jewelry shop. With Todd's care and such an interesting environment, this was a perfect way to prepare to return to the wild!

What a wonderful thing to do. Take in a squirrel who really needed help. Good for you. And now he's back in the wild. Very lucky squirrel!
