Scruffy? They actually had to reimagine Aladdin because he was originally a TWELVE YEAR OLD and they realized that there was no way someone like Jasmine would be interested.
So they made Aladdin into a relatively buff 18 something California beach bum type but with random eastern influenxes from multiple countries.
You can actually see Aladdin's original young age in one of the Cave of Wonders scenes where he is falling. The frames flash by very quickly, and apparently the studio wanted to save some money, so they didn't redraw Al as an adult.

Can't imagine the plot changing too much, it would explain why the Princess was never allowed outside of the Palace.
Could just substitute Ayam Aghoul fir Aladdin, he would probably dream about a Zombie like Jasmine.
I was hoping Disney would've done the remake of this story as Jasmine and have told it from her perspective vs Aladdin's.
