Did you ever think about how unnatural it is for humans to be racing through the air at an altitude of 30, 000 feet? Our bodies were designed to be on the ground, or else we would have developed wings. Surely there must be some consequences to putting our bodies where they shouldnt be? If thats what youre guessing, youd be absolutely correct! Science has come a long way and worked diligently to provide the most comfortable flying conditions possible for todays commercial flyers. Weve managed to provide clean, albeit dry, air at a relatively comfortable air pressure (certainly better than the pressure outside the cabin) so that flyers can endure long flights in peace. Unfortunately, however, science cant work like magic. When on the airplane, your food might not taste as good, and theres a reason for that! Additionally, you might become sleepy or developed a headache due to the lowpressure, oxygendeprived conditions of the airplane. Youve almost certainly experienced bloating or at least the unpleasant earpopping due to gas expansion, but did you know that same side effect can also affect your teeth? Stay tuned to learn more about the crazy things that happen to your body on a plane. Well tell you why they happen, and what measures you can take, if any, to alleviate the symptoms. Have you ever experienced the amazing things that happen as you fly? Tell us how you felt and let us know what you did to avoid the uncomfortable situations in the comments section!

Carbon Dioxide levels are higher not just because of being at higher altitudes. They are higher also due to the fact that there are many passengers that are sitting next to each other, especially if the plane has a high capacity of passengers. High altitude also reduces oxygen levels which is one of the many reasons why it possibly could make you have trouble breathing oxygen. This goes especially when flying is at a very high speed and altitude is high. I almost forgot to mention that sleeping especially during takeoff and landing will make your body have a tougher time in coping with the flight environment (inside the cabin.

Lets see, what do I have here?
Hyperactive taste buds - this causes food to taste no different no matter where I am
No specific sleep schedule - this prevents jet lag for me
I guess Im alright for flying, or at least better than most people.

Wow! There is so much I don't know about the sounds and sensations you experience on a plane and how it affects you. It is staggering the amount. I'm going on my first ride next week from Newcastle to Jersey. I may need to stock up on water.

My largest suggestion when flying is make sure youre well hydrated. Which is a good rule to begin with but especially important when flying. The rest of this stuff is a bit nonsensical.

This video is so dramatic. Most people fly short domestic flights without in flight meal services, anyway. Youll be just fine sitting on a plane for a bit.

The headaches suck so bad if youre a dude. I fly a lot bc I have too and every second is hell. I feel like an airhead about to explode.

My blood pressure dropped, my body weight was gone, so I felt weightless, and I had a horrible headache, until I got used to it: /

as someone who gets a bit anxious during and before flights, knowing why the body reacts the way it does is greatly comforting
