The messed up origins of Hercules. Many of us know the Disney movie, Hercules as a feelgood story about a hunky Greek God. In the film, Hercules was turned into a demigod by the nefarious Hades. He had to perform several acts of heroism in order to reinstate his God status and return to Olympus with his parents, Zeus and Hera. Luckily he still had his superhuman strength. But things got complicated when he fell in love with Megara and sacrificed himself to save her. Because of his selfless heroic act, his God status was returned and he was allowed to return to Olympus. But he decided to stay with his mortal true love instead. Aw, so sweet! But thats not how the real story goes. The Disney film is a pretty big departure from the way Greek mythology tells the story of Hercules. Ancient tales describe his journey as one of revenge, savagery, and madness. Heres the disturbing real story behind Disneys Hercules

4: 38 in ancient cultures including greek guests were treated with great respect, actually like gods, so according to this rule centaur had to offer Hercules the best products he had in his house. And when other centaurs attacked the guest it was like blasphemy - shameful act.

6: 02. Atlas. Oh, you mean the disgraced elder _GOD_ (Titan) of daring, endurance and astronomy, holding up the _HEAVENS. _. you mean the dude who _DIDN'T_ look like a rock monster, but like every other _GOD_. because he was one? (Got to admit, it is some cool concept art though.

But. there is story about Hercules that saying, Hercules, after 12 challanges, gods trait him like a DOG! They say him to dance in woman dress and kill his own family. Just little bit before his death, when he get old THEN Zeus bring him to live on the mount Olympus.

I am conflicted about that movie. Because I know about the story, his 12 works. (mention to those was included in Asterix and Obelix, so a children's movie. And suddenly we have a hero that is so apart from the myth that. I cannot recognise him anymore.

I don't get how none of the movies are accurate. The real deal is much better than the crap Hollywood produced. I remember the 2005 miniseries was the closest to the real mythology, but there were many creative liberties taken

i love greek mythology and when i saw the movie i pretty much just yelled at the tv (also hades is like the nicest guy ever even if he did kidnap his wife Persephone) also why they call Artemis by her Roman name Diana
reply

I heard in the town Hercules and his family lived, a mist was swept into the land from a nearby volcano. The inhabitants of that town showed signs of dementia, but only Hercules became violent.
reply

Diana is the Roman name of Artemis. So I guess since you use the name Hercules (his Roman name) its fine but you also used the Greek names Zeus and Hera instead of their Roman names
reply

Mostly that is what I usually always notice about with the Disney version of Hercules that he was full God and Hercules was parked God that his mother was a mortal.

Well demons inspired pagan myths so it's not surprising that all of them are jacked up. 1 Corinthians 10 says that idols are literally the embodiment of demons
